DARLINGTON 2004 Dachshund (Miniature Long Haired) Judge: Mrs Susan Roberts

MINIATURE LONG-HAIRED
My entry was much appreciated and I had the most interesting day, judging the mini longs. I was well pleased with my winners and delighted with my top winners who were all excellent examples of our lovely breed and their breeders and owners should be really proud of them. It was sad however to observe many exhibits who lacked forechest and who had incorrect shoulder placements. Many had minimal bone and small feet, mouths were good on the whole, but many Dachshunds had dirty back teeth. My final comment is about coat, something we all love to have in mini longs, but coats are not helpful if they cover faults which should not be there, plus in turn confuses spectators and new exhibitors and sometimes they cannot always follow the judges decisions.
MPD (6). 1 Brook’s Lyndarlea Choc Ice. Smart chocolate, with good head and reach of neck, correctly constructed both ends, with excellent ribbing, moved well; 2 Cooper’s Classidax Paddy by Jumanda (naf, taf). Black/cream, with nice head and front, but not the bone of 1, well ribbed, needs to settle a bit with movement; 3 Shutt’s Donnadoon Black Dream.
PD (5). 1 Poole’s Findowrie Man About Town. Smart red d who had all the essentials, with excellent front assembly including well placed shoulders and good ribbing, correctly constructed on the rear end, drove around the ring well BPIB; 2 Worswick’s Dolyharp Don Basilio. Mature, well coated cream, most impressive to watch going around, has all the essentials but needs to mature as does not have the front construction of 1 as yet; 3 Brook’s Black Thorne at Lyndarlea.
JD (4). 1 McLean’s Maxwin Follow The Sun. Quality sh/cream of super type, with good head and reach of neck, well constructed front with ribbing, extending well back, just needs to mature with his movement; 2 Illidge’s Paradachs Murphy Moonshine. Another quality exhibit, lovely type, v compact, well ribbed and good mover, just not quite the front assembly of 1 as yet; 3 Kennedy’s Maxwin Come Together with Denkena. Sh/cream, good head and neck, super coat, moved well.
PGD (5). 1 Brook’s Darknight Black Magic at Lyndarlea. Bl/cream, well constructed, compact, with super ribbing, true movement both ways, keeping good outline, moved really well; 2 Poole’s Findowrie Society Guy. Smart red d, not as much my type as 1 but soundly put together especially the front construction, not the bone of 1; 3 Harrison’s Lacerking Jimmy Mac. Impressive bl/tan, super type, good head, well ribbed, correct angulation on back, moved well, just preferred shoulder placement of 1 and 2.
LD (7). 1 Buchan and Colley’s Ebony Night Rumour at Helenium. Close decisions between 1 and 2, super quality b/tan, lovely type, good head and eye and reach of neck, correct front, well ribbed, moved well; 2 Graver’s Melvalley Midnight Star. Super type, well put together in all departments, eyes a little round for me, but v nice d; 3 Cooper’s Gayvilles Northern Lad at Jumanda. Quality bl/tan, well constructed and nice type with lovely head and good reach of neck, super ribbing, tended to roach a little on the move, needs more weight.
OD (7). 1 Turner’s Ch Rafthouse Eye Jinks. Super class with quality exhibits here. Bl/tan, lovely type with super head and eye, nice reach of neck, correct front and shoulders and ribbing, well angulated on the back, looked a picture driving around and kept super outline, pleased to award him the CC; 2 Lockett’s Ralines Red Dragon. Another top quality exhibit, gorgeous red, correctly constructed all through, difficult to separate, but I felt just did not move as freely as 1 today; 3 Norton’s Ch Halunke Mister Baggins. Yet antoher super exhibit, worthy champion of slightly different type from 1 and 2, well constructed all through again, moved well.
MPB (6). 1 Geeson’s Abydachs Attitude. Quality bl/cream, beautifully constructed at both ends, with super ribbing, looked well on the move; 2 Mee’s Barlaine’s Amber Star. Similar remarks apply but just needs to mature a little; 3 Kennedy’s Zarcrest Gold Lace at Denkena.
PB (4). 1 Brook’s Maundowne Modern Millie at Lyndarlea. Another good exhibit from this kennel, bl/cream, good type, well ribbed, correct shoulder placement and good angulation, at the back, moved well; 2 Oxley’s Bronia Secret Fantasy at Dinkidax. Sk/red with nice head and good front, good angulatin on the back, but didn’t move as well as 1; 3 Cooper’s Garbosa Tilly The Tinker at Jumanda. Nice type, but didn’t have the front construction or bone of 1 and 2.
JB (9). 1 Norton’s Halunke Miss Martini. Close decision. Sh/cream of super type, with lovely head, neck and front construction, with good ribbing and neat hocks, excellent bone, she moved really well and kept super outline, perhaps needs a little more weight, but will trouble the best I am sure; 2 Harrison’s Maxwin Taste Of Honey for Lacerking. Another quality shaded cr, but moved a little closer on the front, well put together with good ribbing, good angulation on back and well coated; 3 Wallace’s Cheslan Makunu Rah. Super bl/cream, lovely type, well constructed b, with excellent outline, not the bone of 1 and 2.
PGB (7). 1 Mee’s Barlaine’s Lady Charlotte. Top drawer b, bl/tan neat compact with excellent front construction and good shoulders, ribbing and super hocks, moved truly, a true Dachshund in miniature; 2 Johnson’s Halunke Miss Angelica at Charpurdy. Nice exhibit, soundly constructed, moved well but not the outline of 1 on the move; 3 Charnley’s Northnook Nutmeg. Another nicely put together ch/tan, but just tended to lose her outline on the move.
LB (9). 1 McLean’s Maxwin Lady Madonna. Stylish red, easy winner in this class with well constructed front and shoulder placement, super ribbing, really drove from the back on the move and looked well, pleased to award her RCC; 2 Graham’s Jadag Forton’s Continental. Lovely quality bl/tan, good head and well ribbed with correct front and shoulder placement, just not the outline of 1 on the move; 3 Kennedy’s Denkena’s Lady Bear. COmpact bl/tan neatly put together with good ribbing and nice angulation on the back.
OB V difficult to separate these top quality bitches all of whom are worthy winner and whom we all admire from the ringside. My decisions were extremely close and are my preferences on the day, but I am sure will change places often on different days under different judges. 1 Mack and Dunn’s Ch Topgem Louisa May JW. CC and BOB. Black/tan, out of the top drawer, would like her for my own, the type I love and she was so hard to fault, superb head and oval eye, good reach of neck, forechest super with excellent ribbing and shoulder placement and tight elbows (which so many lacked), well shaped quarters with neat hocks completed the package for me and she moved correctly going and coming, had a correct outline and head carriage, her back movement going away gave her the edge in this class and also over the DCC winner for BOB which I was so proud to award her; 2 Goddard’s Ch Minard Knight’s Darque.
Black/tan, worthy top winning Dachshund, again out of the top drawer and a most impressive specimen of the breed, nearly all the above comments apply to this lovely b also, I was really splitting hairs here, but I just preferred the marginally tighter elbows, and the going away back movement of 1 on the day, not available to challenge for RCC; 3 Wallace’s Cheslan Rasthi Rah. Black/tan, another beautiful girl, whom we all admire and a super example of our breed, again hard to fault, a fractionally lower head carriage than 1 but soundly constructed all through and moved really well, a champion before long, I am sure.
