Birmingham National 2005 Dachshund (Miniature Long Haired) Judge: Mrs R Lockett-Walters

MINIATURE LONGHAIRED
It is only just over 12 months since I judge the dogs but I did find a drastic improvement in the faults that were prevalent at that time. Namely mouths and tail faults. Front assembly has improved greatly, but hindquarters still leave a lot to be desired in many. There are many that have tummy thumping back action and no rear thrust, this is problem that needs to be addressed. There were not many dogs but I was pleased with my winners, and as usual which is the way the good ones all came together in the same classes. The quality of the bitches is far superior to the dogs and there are some really beautiful girls about which gave me a real headache, especially in Junior and Post Grad classes.
MPD. (2). 1. Welton’s, Chelane Casper Carrot. Very smart stylish puppy with beautiful coat. Soundly constructed. Lovely head and eye. Nice clean outline. Moves soundly. Shows great promise. 2. Bell’s, Freddie Ferrari. B/t. Only a baby not so mature as winner or as good in hindquarters. Has good shoulder assembly and excells in length of rib.
PD. (4). 1. Norton’s, Halunke Just Jervis. S/red. Gorgeous head, lovely eye shape, good mouth. Sufficient neck, well placed shoulders of the correct angles. Good overall length. Well angulated backend which he uses to best advantage. Only needs to mature. BP. 2. Farmer’s, Jenwood Summer Solstice. B/t. Superb coat for a youngster. Lovely bone and chunky feet. Not quite as tight in elbow as the winner but on the whole very smart and moves very soundly. 3. Colley’s, Stainscare the Riddler.
JD. (6). 1. Geeson’s, Abydachs Anarchy. I was impressed with this young man. Has a lovely outline and is extremely well constructed. Moves out well. Would have preferred a little more body on him. Pushed hard for the RCC. 2. Rees’s, Yumares Nicholas. Cream. Lovely head, good eye. Well boned. Good shoulder. Nice topline standing and on the move. Not the hind angulation of winner. 3. Poole’s, Findowrie Man About Town.
PGD. (2). A poor quality class. 1. Broad’s, Jenwood Ring of Bells. Clear red. Good head. Good reach of neck, well placed shoulders. Cuts up underneath which spoils his outline on the move. 2. Nottingham’s, Findowrie Moonlight Shadow. B/t. He was rather unhappy about the whole proceedings would not co-operate with his handler.
LD. (3). 1. Garman’s, Albaney Cornish Cream. Have judged him before. Very pleasing to go over. Well put together moves soundly. Still needs to mature and needs his coat to complete the picture. RCC. 2. McCleans’, Maxwin Follow the Sun. S/cream. Pleasing head. Good shoulder, ribbing sound. Lovely hindquarters. Unfortunately didn;t co-operate with his handler and make the best of himself. 3. Cooper’s, Gayvilles Northern Lad at Jumanda.
OD. (4). 1. Farmers’, Jenwood Fields of Gold. Red. Best of heads. Good reachy neck. True in front. Well laid shoulder. Sufficient ribbing. Balanced quarters. Moves soundly. Has super head carriage and ring presence. CC. 2. Buchan’s, Ebony Night Runner at Helenium. Beautifully presented b/t. Same comments apply as winner. Just preferred the rear action of winner on side gait. 3. Allan and Dick’s, Berekyah Chervil to Auchans.
MPB. (4). 1. Coope-Dempster’s, Summerview Sanpiper. Very correct little bitch which is of good length which gives her elegance. Has all essentials to make a promising specimen. JUst needs maturity. 2. Welton’s, Chelane Royal Courtesan. B/t. Promising puppy that needs to grow on. Preferred the bone and substance of the winner. 3. Shutts’, Streets Ahead at Donnadoon.
PB. (9). 1. Hanney’s, Bronia Serenity. Lovely rich red which is all of a piece. Extremely good head, reachy neck. Well placed shoulder. Good length and ribbing. Well angulated. Strong quarters which she uses well. Shown in superb hard condition and immaculately presented. BBP. 2. McLeans. Maundowne Memento to Maxin. Thought she was my winner when she entered the ring has a classic outline and is as good to go over as she looks. Unfortunately was not happy being inside and scrabbled around the ring hence her placing. 3. Norton’s, Halunke Just Jessica.
JB. (8). This class was a joy to judge it was teaming with quality and saw simply a matter of splitting hairs, the first three were like peas from the same pod and I really liked the fourth which was beautifully made but of a different type. 1. Palin’s, Sanmik’s Severn of Nine. B/t. Pleasing head. Reachy neck, best of shoulders and front. Good length and spring of rib. Excellent hindquarters which she used to the full. RCC. She made the perfect pair with the CC winner from Open. 2. Scott’s, Maydays Regal Lady. Another from the top draw. Pity there were not two first prizes. Winner just has that little extra touch of prosternum which was the deciding factor on splitting these two. 3. Harrison’s, Lacerking Royal Maid. Another lovely one a touch smaller than the winners.
PGB. (11). Again another extremely quality class with the first three being of outstanding quality. 1. Norton’s, Halunke Miss Martini. S/cream. Pleasing head, sufficient neck. Excellent shoulders, front and ribbing. Lovely bone and substance. Well angulated quarters. Just lost out to RCC on verve in the challenge. 2. Hall’s, Cliffemere Vanquish. B/t. Very elegant. Beautifully made. Moves well. Winner was just that little lower to ground which was what I based my decision on. 3. Harrison’s, Maxwin Taste of Honey for Lacerking.
LB. (9). 1. Wallace’s, Cheslyn Makunu Rah. B/cr. Super head and eye. Good reach of neck. The very best of shoulders and front. Good bend of stifle. Well ribbed. LOvely strong hind angulation. Moves beautifully. JUst needs her jacket back to complete the picture. 2. Williamson’s, Barkroyal Wyspering Willo. B/cr. Quality bitch that is soundly made in all departments. Moves well and extremely well presented. Just preferred the bone and substance of the winner who was from a stronger mould. 3. Graham’s, Jadag Frontons Continental for Joshells.
OB. (6). 1. Goddard’s, Ch. Minard Krystal Darque. B/t. I can write nothing about this bitch that has not already been said. She is absolutely exquisite and a perfect template for us all to work to. She moves like a dream and really puts all in and enjoys herself to the full. CC and BOB. 2. Wallace’s, Cheslan Reethi Rah. Unfortunately the bridesmaid to Krystal again, she is a bitch of outstanding quality, but she just lacks Krystal’s head carriage and sparkle. 3. Welton’s, Chelane Bewitched. Another beautiful bitch which deserves her title. Unfortunate to have meet the winners.
