I would like to thank the exhibitors for such a great entry for my first time awarding CCs to Mini Longs, which Sue and I first started out with in 1980. Overall I found the breed to be better than I had expected, although there are still far too many with very short upper arms, inadequate length of keel and short ribbing. Mouths and teeth were generally good, and I was pleased that very few dogs seemed to be over-coated; a fault that obscures the outline and tends to exaggerate the stuffy appearance that some already have. Many would, however, benefit from more exercise to improve feet, strengthen pasterns and create at least an impression that they are proper hounds, in hard condition, that could do a day’s work. VD/B (6) 1 Mack’s Sarade Leap into Action of Topgem Very neat nine year old Black and Tan dog in good condition, with a good front, tight-fitting elbows and good keel and ribbing. Excellent topline, held on the move. Moved true both coming and going away. 2 Mee’s Barlaine Be My Valentine. Good head and nice dark eye. Again, good forechest, tight-fitting elbows and overall well-balanced, which I preferred over 3. Not quite the elegance or topline of 1, which made her look rather more stuffy in the neck. 3 Goddard’s Ch. Minard Klearly Minty. Sp OD/B (under 10 lbs) (11) 1 King’s Kingsdax Regal Knight The most elegant of the entries in this class. Shaded Red with a good topline, which he held on the move and I preferred over 2. Reasonable amount of forechest. Tidy, flowing underline. Liked his reach of neck. 2 Burgin’s Melvalley Midnight Gold Very attractive six year old bitch who presented a good overall balanced picture. Perhaps not quite the length of 1. Good head and eye. Very good, prominent forechest and neat front construction. Slightly more tucked up in underline than 1. 3 Johnson’s Charpurdy’s Star of the East. MPD (3) 1 Brooks’ Maundowne Milo at Lyndarlea Black and Tan, on his own in this class. Reasonable amount of forechest, good tight-fitting elbows. Good underline. One of the few on the day with good firm, bunchy feet. Would have preferred to see more hind extension and drive and he had a slight tendency to run up behind, when on the move. PD (8) 1 Hartley’s Tialamour Destiny Calls for Lyrosh Red dog with good reach of neck, overall length and balance. Not over-exaggerated anywhere. I liked the fact that he has good ground clearance and this means he looks more elegant than some, when on the move. Could perhaps do with a bit more hind angulation. Best mover in this class, coming and going. (Best Dog Puppy). 2 Brooks’ Lyndarlea Piper Kris A more compact type than 1, and not quite the reach of neck. Good forechest and front construction. Good shoulder placement and tight-fitting elbows. Also held his topline when moving. Preferred his overall maturity, substance and balance to 3. 3 Graham’s Jadag Tuchogalaxy. JD (7) 1 Worswick’s Dolyharp Don Basilio A lovely, upstanding Cream dog, with good pigment, who really caught my eye when moving. Strong, masculine head. Very well balanced. Good front construction. Firm topline, held on the move. Good, tidy underline. His movement was very true both coming and going. I shall watch his career with interest and hope he gets his 3rd CC soon. He should have a great year. (CC, RBOB). 2 Geeson’s Abydachs Anarchy. Another lovely dog who was definitely in contention for the Res. CC. Beautifully turned out. Excellent forechest. Felt he was slightly narrower than 1 and not quite as true moving away, which was odd as he is very well angulated behind. Looks superb in profile when moving. The movement of these first two set them apart from the others in this class. 3 Poole’s Findowrie Man About Town. PGD (12) 1 Cawley & King’s Fizzy Flyer for Summerview A very neat little dog, who has a really tidy outline. Good, tight-fitting elbows and front construction. Stepped out well in front, but would prefer more drive behind. Not the most masculine-looking of dogs, which might count against him. 2 Brooks’ Dark Night Black Magic at Lyndarlea. Slightly taller type than 1. Black and Tan with good, tight-fitting elbows, good forechest and good length of ribbing. Better in hind angulation than 1, but not as firm in the topline. 3 Leggett’s Sonsrymes Sports Boy. LD (11) 1 Wallace’s Mullion Kuda Thila at Cheslan. A very handsome Cream dog who looks great in profile, both standing and moving. Very good length, which gives him elegance compared with many. Excellent front construction, lovely forechest. (RCC). 2 Buchan & Colley’s Ebony Night Runner at Helenium Another lovely little dog. Not quite the front construction of 1 and a taller type which made him look less elegant than 1. Strong head, on good reachy neck. Moved well. 3 Graver’s Melvalley Midnight Star. OD (5) 1 Roberts’ Ch. Denver’s Jack Frost A handsome and very well-constructed Cream dog that I have admired in the past. He has a lovely head and super front construction. Good bone and substance throughout. Really good feet. Excellent topline, ribbing and a tidy underline. When it came to the challenge, I felt he didn’t quite have the elegance and sparkle, on the move, of my two top winners. 2 Watkins’ Bidornis Pinball Wizard Another very nice Red dog. He had better reach of neck than 1, which adds to his elegant appearance and he too has good bone. Felt he was not as tight in front construction, which showed up on the move. Well-balanced and good topline, held at all times. MPB (10) 1 Poole’s Arbroath Lady of Cullins at Findowrie. A neat and pretty little Red bitch, with good bone. Tight-fitting elbows. Good forechest. Would prefer more reach of neck. Topline appears better when standing than moving. 2 Welton’s Chelane Enchantress Stepped out well on the move, holding a good topline. Lovely head and dark eye. Good forechest running through into a sweeping underline. Better hind angulation than most in this class. 3 Burge & Rossiter’s Rafthouse Rainbows End of Creekpit. PB (8) 1 Angear’s Ridgegrove Dancing Shadow. What a very promising young bitch, not yet a year old, but stood out in this class of more mature juniors. Lovely head and reachy neck. Well put together in front; everything falls into place so neatly. Slightly taller type than some, but this adds to her elegance. Good bone. Well angulated behind. Stepped out with drive. (Best Puppy in Breed, Res. BP in Show). 2 Roberts’ Denver Love Me Tender Another very nice bitch who pushed hard with 1 and could easily swap places. Good shoulder placement. Lovely topline, held on the move. Well-angulated behind; used to drive with purpose (unlike too many). 3 Crawley’s Gilldax Oberonia at Doujac. JB (21) 1 Wallace’s Cheslan Makunu Rah Attractive Black and Tan bitch who moved well and held a very good topline at all times. Appeared slightly wide in front when standing, but moved OK coming towards me. Well-angulated behind. 2 Hall’s Cliffmere Vanquish Another bitch I enjoyed watching on the move. Good reach of neck and prominent forechest. Not as firm in the topline as 1. Better in front construction than behind. 3 Roberts’ Denver Suzi Wong. PGB (16) 1 Boyle’s Zarcrest Gold Legacy Well turned out, glamorous-looking Red bitch. Lovely outline, with prominent forechest, sweeping underline and firm topline which she held at all times. Tight-fitting elbows. Well-angulated behind. Moved true coming and going. 2 Wood’s Wildstar Wilhelmina Another well-constructed Black and Tan bitch who was carrying rather too much weight today. This detracted from what, I’m sure, could have been a much more elegant appearance. Very well constructed in front. She looked good in profile movement, and coming towards me and going away. 3 Hazelby’s Evadanne Danniella Rose. LB (16) 1 Williamson’s Barkroyal Wyspering Willo This was not as strong a class as I had perhaps expected. My winner was an overall well-balanced little bitch, with nothing outstanding, but nothing exaggerated. Reasonable reach of neck, tight-fitting elbows. Moved true coming and going. 2 Shutt’s Donnadoon Passion Flower at Rhinestar Quite a striking looking bitch with her tan markings. Slightly taller type than 1 and I would prefer more reach of neck. Good forechest. Held a firm topline when moving. Preferred her front construction to 3. 3 Mee’s Barlaines Lady Charlotte. OB (10) 1 Goddard’s Ch. Minard Krystal Darque This bitch is simply stunning to go over and to watch moving. No wonder she has done so much winning. Everything falls into place so neatly. Beautiful head, elegant neck. Well placed shoulders and good length of upper arm. Excellent topline, tidy, flowing underline. Moves like a dream, with excellent hind extension and drive (missing in so many others). Made my day to see her go Best in Show. (CC, BOB, Best in Show). 2 Roberts’ Ch. Denver’s Babycham Another beautiful bitch that I have admired from the ringside and she was a pleasure to go over. Good head. Reachy neck. Well made in front. Tight-fitting elbows. Lovely topline. Moved true in both directions. This was a strong class, with some quality bitches. (RCC). 3 Wallace’s Cheslan Reethi Rah.
