MINIATURE LONG HAIRED
Many thanks to my efficient steward, Sue Johnson. This was a new venue, with a good sized ring but the usual sports hall problems of incessant noise, which certainly affected the younger males, a floor which seemed to affect movement and lighting which did not help reds and creams. I don’t think this was a representative entry, as if it was this variety is going backwards, with very poor movement prevalent and unsound front construction in many exhibits. There seem to be two types – traditional long-haired dachshunds and a shorter, chunkier type with untypical heads and fluffier coats, devoid of ear fringing –I wondered if they have emerged from the interest in unusual colours, which has led to pigmentation problems. There were some "toast-rack" ribs under the coat, and yes, I did place a bitch which tipped the scales but she was obviously carrying more flesh than she needed to, a fault in presentation rather than construction, which can be corrected practically overnight. The Limit Dog and Open Bitch classes were by far the most enjoyable to judge. Teeth were clean and presentation was excellent. I finished the day with clean hands, thank you to all exhibitors. MPD (4) 1 Brown’s Devoncream Dew’n’Thyme, BPD, shaded cream with good head and neck, good in profile movement, sound and active with level topline, could tighten in front to advantage, super temperament. 2 Brook’s Lyndarlea Silver Starlite, silver dapple, hated the floor, lots of bone & substance, good head and ribbing, promising. 3 Welton’s Chelane Masterclass. PD (4, 1) 1 Welton’s Chelane Castaspell, shaded cream not helped by this light, well balanced, chunky puppy who held good outline in profile, and moved well to and fro. 2 Poole’s Findowrie Skye Lord, red who looked stunning standing, lovely to go over but very restricted in hind movement today. 3 Brook’s Lyndarlea Candle In The Dark. JD (5, 1) 1 Barnsdale & Hayward-Barnsdale’s Chriskam Ray of Sunlight, red, lower than I like, with too much coat, soundest mover here but lacked rear extension. 2 Shutt’s Donnadoon Diplomat, red, nice type, good profile on the move, failed to 1 in front construction and temperament. 3 Nottingham’s Sanmik The Count, b/t, best coat in class but needs firmer handling. ND (1,0) 1 Nottingham’s Findowrie Moonlight Shadow, very naughty b/t, nice type, best ribbing so far today, moved well to and fro but roaches in profile, needs firmer handling. PGD (4, 2) 1 Bell’s Freddie Ferrari, b/t, correct type, would prefer more neck but had more length, better front and hind movement and held better profile than. 2 Oxley’s Dinkidax Tidal Wave, shaded red, looked well standing, not at all free on the move. LD (9, 0) Excellent class. 1 Colley & Buchan’s Stainesacre The Riddler, CC, b/t, lovely type, so good to go over, excellent head and front, proper long-haired ears, best feet so far, good ribbing and rear angulation, well off for bone & substance, tending to take care of himself on the floor, but very sound to and fro and covering the ground well in profile. 2 Oxley’s Wildhatch Cropston Boy of Dinkidax, RCC, brindle, lovely type, moved really well in profile and to and fro, really covers the ground, angulation not quite as good as winner, would prefer a little more length and could possibly carry a little more weight to advantage, very confident showman. 3 Welton’s Chelane Casper Carrott, another good free mover, holding good shape in profile. OD (10, 3) Even class, with some very close decisions. 1 Norton’s Halunke Just Jervis, shaded red, very sound and free on the move and lovely to go over, typical, lively and active, serious contender for CC & RCC, but preferred length and front movement of the limit winners. 2 Buchan & Colley’s Ch Ebony Night Runner at Helenium, classical type, gorgeous head with beautiful ear fringing, good feet, very well made but not moving as freely behind on this surface. 3 Brown’s Ir Ch Jympems Houdini at Garbosa, another lovely sound brindle, not the head and front of 2. MPB (5, 1) Four real babies. 1 Brook’s Lyndarlea In My Thoughts, BP , well covered, very sound and sophisticated b/t, won with a lot in hand, good coat, front, head and feet, unfortunately got fed up as the day went on. 2 Charnley’s Northnook Tilly Tussle, red, complete baby but what a little showgirl, well put together, sound mover, just lacking in length and maturity to winner. 3 Cooper’s Jumanda’s Gypsy Silver. PB (2,1) 1 Poole’s Findowrie Wine’n’Roses, b/t, good head and coat, well schooled, light boned, and needs to tighten in front. JB (7, 3) Very disappointing class, none held a level profile on the move and some very disappointing hind action. 1 Brook’s Lyndarlea Lacey, b/t, held shape best in profile but no hind drive. 2 Mee’s Barlaine’s Country Classic, b/t who looked best stacked but did not hold topline on the move. 3 Havard’s Summerview Downtown at Dravahland. NB (2,1) 1 Cooper’s Jumanda’s Black Magic, b/t, good type, just failed in neck and front construction so ran up slightly on the move, but a sound active mover, sound to and fro. PGB (10,2) First two stood away for me. 1 Roberts’ Denver Suzi Wong, well balanced b/t who scored in front and hind angulation over 2, good ribbing, well put together but slightly too low to ground for my preference. 2 Brook’s Lyndarlea Shutt The Door, cream with good ribbing, who really came together on the move. 3 Welton’s Chelane Royal Courtesan. LB (9,2) 1 Roberts’ Denver Love me Tender, cream, a little unsettled on table, but well put together, moved best in this class, again a little low for me. 2 Boyles’ Zarcrest Black Classic, well balanced b/t who scored on hind movement over the elegant, beautifully fronted. 3 Holmes’ Tammera Touch of Elegance. OB (6,1) The first three in this class were excellent – thank you for bringing them. 1 Goddards’ Ch Minard Krystal Darque, CC, BOB & RBIS, beautiful b/t bitch with the perfect personality for the showring, yet looking as if she could do a day’s work, lovely size and substance, good coat, excellent feet, pleased in head, ears, neck, front and hind construction, really strode out covering the ground well with a free active stride, could possibly have just a little more length but she is so feminine and well put together, won BOB on freedom of movement. 2 Geeson’s Abydachs Attitude, RCC, another beautiful bitch who was lovely to go over with everything in the right place, again moved very well, providing serious competition to the winner, just losing out slightly in feet and front action but I was splitting hairs, certainly deserves to be a champion. 3 Roberts’ Ch Denver’s Babycham, red, different type, preferred heads of 1&2 but well put together and moved well.
