MINIATURE LONG HAIRED:
A large entry of 145 dogs is both very pleasing from the judge’s point of view, the support of the exhibitors is much appreciated, and at the same time statistically it must be regarded as a true representation of the breed at a given point in time, enabling the strengths and weaknesses of the breed to be assessed. At this moment in time my main concerns for the breed are as follows: There is no consistency between exhibits ie ‘no clear breed type’, some are long, others short; heads range from correct and therefore long, appearing conical when viewed from above, to others that are small and without the correct proportions from the back of the head to stop to nose. The neck should be sufficiently long, slightly arched in the nape and running in graceful lines into the shoulders, carried well up and forward. In too many exhibits the head sat on the shoulders! Standing, having been set up by the handler, dogs looked reasonable - when asked to move they fell apart; toplines were lose and movement unacceptable. The Standard requires (forequarters) that the upperarm should be of equal length with, and at right angles to, the shoulder blade, with elbows lying close to the ribs, many failed woefully in this regards and consequently movement was seriously impaired. Hind movement gave serious concern, there was a distinct lack of drive for two reasons: i) poor angulation in the bone structure and ii) lack of muscle, the standard requires a round rump, muscles hard and supple. The distinct lack of muscle tone relative to the size of a dog, I do consider needs urgent attention. The observations expressed above are put forward as constructive criticism, they are and they represent a serious failure to meet the Breed Standard.
Vet D (8,1) 1 Watkins’ Bidornis Pinball Wizard. Lovely clear red, good pigmentation. Level topline both when standing and moving, nice coat and well presented. 2 Bedford’s Ch Rhinestar Hunky Dory. Shaded red, would prefer more reach of neck. Good movement and showed well, a nice dog. 3 Jamieson’s Ch Ir Ch Airwaves to Carlang via Djeata. Moved and showed well. Res Turner’s Ch Rafthouse Eye Jinks.
SpPD (7,1) 1 Welton’s Chelane Masterclass. Clear red with lovely pigmentation, level topline and good fore and rear construction. Nicely presented, correct amount of coat. A very nice and worthy winner of this class. 2 Phillips’ Rossdach Descantes. Shaded red, well presented with lots to like. However, I preferred the movement of the winner. 3 Brooks’ Lyndarlea Pedro. B/T, well presented and movement good. Res Oxley’s Dinkidax Donny Rova.
SpJD (7) 1 Poole’s Findowrie Skye Lord. Shaded red of lovely size. Nice movement, good front and rear quarters. Well presented. 2 Brown’s Devoncream Dew N Thyme. Dapple with a pleasing outline standing, on the day I preferred the movement of the winner. 3 Kennedy’s Denkena’s Solar Flare. Pale red/cream with plenty to like about him. Movement again separated the first three. Res Warren’s Leo Mondial.
YD (7) 1 Graham’s Jadag Forton’s Special. B/T of good length, good shoulders and hindquarters. Movement won him the class. 2 Brown’s Devoncream Dew N Thyme. 3 Farmer’s Shenwood Shady Spot. Lovely red with lots to like. Hopefully will develop more and have a bright future. Res Brooks’ Lyndarlea Candle in the Dark.
PGD (14,1) 1 Young’s Willowheath the Darkness. In a disappointing class I was more than pleased to find this b/t. His outline moving was very good and when handled his construction proved the point. Well shown and I was pleased to award him the Res CC. 2 Wood’s Helmfoot Hunky Rory. Red, slightly different in type, however, good movement ensured his placing. 3 Brown’s Devoncream Dew N Thyme. Two 2nds in the previous two classes. Very unlucky to meet the other dogs and just missing out each time! Res Rees’ Yumares Nicholas.
LD (13,1) Difficult class to achieve conformity, the following places were decided on movement. 1 Leyshon’s Picklescott Proclaim. This dog not only moved well but was pleasing to handle. He excelled in all departments - a lovely dog with hopefully more wins in the future. 2 Poole’s Findowrie Man About Town. Red, smaller in size and moved like a dream. Deserved this place, a good placing in a big class. Hope he too has many more good shows. 3 Phillips’ Rossdach Your Song. Choc/tan and very pleasing in many ways. A good place for a large class. However, for me the head did not complete the picture to be placed higher. Res Oxley’s Wildhatch Cropston Boy of Dinkidax.
OD (12,1) 1 Welton’s Chelane Casper Carrot. Delightful red of nice size, sound movement and a lovely topline. Well constructed, showed well and deserved to win this large class. Presented the perfect overall picture. CC. 2 Norton’s Halunke Just Jervis. Red and challenged hard for the top spot. Same comments apply and no doubt will change places with the winner many times in the future, as they both seek their justly deserved titles. Res Janmieson’s Ch Djeata Riven within the Ring.
Good Citizen D (1) 1 Broad’s Jenwood Ring of Bells.
Vet B (7) 1 Johnson’s Charpurdy New Dawn. Lovely red, showed well and with style. On the day she was young again! Well done. 2 Bainbridge’s Lynbain Lady Liza. B/T who challenged hard. This was a nice class of veterans, well done to you all. 3 Williamson’s Barkroyal Wyspering Willow. Res Kennedy’s Denkena’s Ben Lora.
SpPB (9,3) 1 Thomas’ Shenaligh Sweet Spirit. B/T, lovely well bodied pup with a nice reach of neck, good bone and sound movement. Excellent hindquarters, simply good in all departments! Best Puppy. 2 Norton’s Halunke Shallimar. Shaded red of good type. Pleasing when standing and moving, finer boned. 3 Cooper’s Jumandas Gypsy Silver. Nice dapple, slightly larger type. A nice placing in a large class. Res Brace’s Xemxija Ice on Fire.
SpJB (12) 1 Leyshon’s Picklescott Violet. B/T, lovely bone and length and a nice outline and movement. Good head (size and shape), a lovely girl who stands true, equally and on all parts of the foot. Very nice. 2 Poole’s Findowrie Wine N Roses. B/T, slightly smaller than the winner. Pleasing to watch, good placing from a large class. 3 Wallace’s Cheslan Fenfushi Rah. Red, movement determined this place in a large class. Similar to 1 and 2, her dam was my BOB. Res Williamson’s Ralines Magic Dragon of Barkroyal.
yb (13,1) 1 Angear’s Ridgegrove Moon Dance. B/T bitch with good bone, stands true and moves freely with a good outline. 2 Johnson’s Charpurdy Millie McStar. B/T, nice length and stands well with a pleasing outline. Keeps everything in place when on the move. 3 Murphy’s Classidax Enchanting Pearl. Cream, smaller size. However, in a large class won this place on movement. Res Palin’s Gigi Ginger with Sanmick.
PGB (16,4) 1 Kennedy’s Denkana’s Black Berry. B/T, slightly smaller type. LOvely outline standing which still looked a picture on the move. Nice reach of neck. 2 Burge and Rossiter’s Barok Bellerania of Creekpit. JW. Shaded red, similar in type to the winner - both these bitches had nice heads. 3 Paterson’s Danielle Masters Last Stand. Dapple, looked nice on the table, on the move covered the ground well. Res Cooper’s Jumandas Black Magic.
LB (17,2) 1 Burge and Rossiter’s Rafthouse Rainbows End of Creekpit. B/T, correct type and nice length with a nice reach of neck, good head and just the right coat. Nice standing with good bone and sound throughout. Showed well, more than deserved to win this big class. Res CC. 2 Angear’s Ridgegrove Halle Berry. B/T, very much like the winner and the same remarks apply. I just preferred the winner’s hindquarters and bone. 3 Holmes’ Tammera Touch of Elegance. Red of different type to the above, however she moved well and showed to advantage on the table. Res Wallace’s Cheslan Makunu Rah.
OB (11,3) 1 Wallace’s Ch Cheslan Reethi Rah. B/T, my notes read a lovely girl, good bone and a nice head and good reach of neck. Sound body all through, stood well and moved cleanly over the ground. I can now add that she is a more than worthy Champion and a much deserved 4th CC. Delighted to award her BOB, a big win and I hope her owner will enjoy her to the full. 2 Goddard’s Ch Minard Krystal Darque. Great plaudits will have been written about this bitch over the years and her record speaks for itself. It therefore needs no further comment from me other than to state the obvious - that my assessment of best fit to the Breed Standard was the class winner. 3 Allan and Dick’s Ir Ch Auchans Thistle Dubh Well. B/T, a nice bitch, slightly larger than 1 and 2. Moved well. Res Turner’s Rafthouse Tallulah.
Good Citizens B (1) 1 Halsall’s
Kiddles Fastnet.
