MINIATURE LONGHAIRED DACHSHUND

I last judged this variety in 2008 at the Northern Dachshund Club. Today I was delighted with entry of 72 and I thank the officers and committee of the Dachshund Club of Wales for giving me the opportunity to award Challenge Certificates in Wales for the first time having resided here for over 30 years! The atmosphere throughout the day was most pleasant in general, my main concerns however are still heads which come in various shapes, elbows that still protrude from the rib cage and dirty exhibits. Having said that in general, going on today's entry, things are looking good for this variety with plenty of young quality stock coming through and some clever fresh breeders braking through the ranks! MPD (2) 1 Holmes, Tammera Touch of Class, clear red, he has that alright. Super headed youngster of the correct conical shape, clear eye and a good expression. Excellent reach in neck with a correct front assembly. His ribs are carried well back with a good loin. Top line and tail set bang on. Moving with purposeful rear drive and forward reach holding his top line at all times. Presented in excellent coat and condition. Best Puppy Dog and Best Puppy in Breed. 2 Bowman-Davies, Timshaws Sea Storm red, plenty to admire about this youngster, head ok, neck good with a good shoulder. Top line level with a well angulated rear. Moved well on the out and back but tended to carry tail a little high which in turn spoils his outline on the go around. PD (4) 1 Norton, Halunke Dragons Kiss, red, very typical from this stable!! Fair in head, eye and expression. Good length in neck, shoulders ok, well bodied up for a youngster, correct in top line which leads to a good tail set bone good with decent feet, moved away well but does need to tighten in front, this should correct itself with maturity. 2 Poole, Findowrie Mr McDuff, red, close up to the winner in most departments, well bodied, quality in bone with excellent feet, would however prefer a little more refinement in skull to balance up the head. Moved well on the out and back. Presented in excellent condition. JD (8) Good class first two will change places I'm sure! 1 Barrow, Zarcrest Dancing on Ice to Frankenwen, black cream no denying this young exhibit, has quality to spare! Super head of the correct conical shape, excellent eye and expression, very good neck and fore quarters, excels in body. Top line and tail set. Excellent bone with compact feet. On the stack he looked amazing, on the move he was so technically correct I just felt he could have had a bit more spark. This would have put him on contention for a major award! As usual from this stable presented in stunning coat and condition and handled perfection. 2 Turner, Rafthouse Gee Whiz B/T excellent over all breed type and so close up to the winner. Super head, excellent forequarters, well ribbed spot on top line which leads to a well angulated rear. Quality in bone with correct feet, stacked he looked superb however he was not settled on the day so had to pay the penalty. Presentation A1. 3 Brooks, Lyndarlea Raferty JW, cream, completing a trio of quality young males. PGD (4) A class of ifs, but and may be's. 1 Brooks, Lyndarlea Bubble, choc/dapple head ok, neck correct, is well bodied with a correct top line, ribs ok bone and feet good moved well going away but tended to pin in front, however did hold his outline on the go around. 2 Cooper, Jeacroie Sir Percival at Jumanda, red, typical in head and expression, well bodied, correct in top line, however would prefer a tighter elbow and perhaps just a little more of him all over. Moved out well though. 3 McCarthy, Magshall Oklahoma Sunrise, red. LD (7) 1 Gallagher, Galrhia Iceing on the Cake choc/dapple all quality exhibit to go over. He excels in head, eye and expression, spot on front assembly, super neck, ribs carried well back, top line true. Quality in bone with excellent feet, his rear is well angulated and well developed standing looked amazing, moved with true style showing positive rear drive and forward reach holding his outline at all times. He posed me a real dilemma just a couple of ounces over, if it had not been for that things could have turned out differently. Presented in stunning coat and a picture of health. Good luck for the future! 2 Poole, Findowrie City Slicker, red, smaller in cast than the winner, head fair, eye good, well developed in body with a good top line, ribs ok, moved with positive action. 3 McCarthy, Nagshall All Guns Blazing. OD (6) 1 Boyle, Ch Zarcrest Ice Conqueror, cream, so much has been written about this exhibit and his record speaks for itself. I found him excellent to go over, super head shape, correct eye and expression, neck ok, excellent ribbing, fore chest good, ribs well sprung, top line level, firm in loin, well angulated quarters, stands on quality bone with feet ok, moved out so well showing good reach and drive, holding his outline on the go around at all times. Presented in gleaming condition having studied the catalogue I see that he was the sire of the junior dog MP Bitch and Postgraduate Bitch class winners, along with himself being awarded the dog cc. I would have thought that his owners would have been pleased with his day's work. 2 McAlpine & Walsh, Walpines Brandy Butter, cream, put up a fight to take on Ice another top drawer exhibit, super to go over in most departments, excels in neck and front assembly, super ribbing, spot on top line, excellent rear quarters, strength in bone with good feet, would however prefer a slightly less masculine head, its only my opinion. Moves really well showing excellent rear drive and forward reach. Presented in fine order. RCC today I'm sure his crown is not too far away! 3 Poole, Findowrie Skye Lord. VD/B (4) A class of golden oldies! All exhibits presented in good condition. 1 Worswick, Ch Dolyharp Don Basilio jw, handsome individual, fair in head, good body ribs and top line, quality bone with compact feet, still moved with positive rear action holding a true outline on the go around. 2 Brooks Ch Lyndarlea Choc Ice, close up to the winner, same remarks apply, still very sound. 3 Cooper, Jumanda's Lily. MPB (5) 1 Chapman, Rafthouse Designed for Ellemich, red, pleasing over all type, ultra feminine head, lovely eye and expression, good bone and feet, body outline ok has all the ingredients in the right place. Moved well for one so young. Presented in excellent condition. 2 Brown, Devoncream Maid of Diamonds, many remarks as winner apply here, lovely head, good eye and expression, correct in general outline, quality in bone with good feet, just not a positive in the rear as the winner but should improve with maturity. 3 Brace, Xemxija Star Light. PB (6) 1 Worswick, Dolyharp Patience, red, has plenty to admire, appealing head, eye and expression, correct in front assembly, good neck, well bodied and ribbed, top line correct which leads to a well angulated rear, she has quality bone with feet ok, gave off a good outline on the stack and moved soundly both ways, another that was presented in first class condition. 2 Norton, Halunke Sheer Magic b/t has plenty to admire, pleasing head of the correct shape, good eye and expression, well proportioned body, correct in top line with a well angulated rear, standing looked a picture just a little reserved on the move, will do well I'm sure. 3 Poole, Findowrie Crème Caramelle. JB (7) 1 Brown, Devoncream Golden Flair, red, smart individual, attractive feminine head of correct balance, kind eye with a kind expression, good length in neck, correct in fore quarters, well ribbed level top line with well angulated quarters. Once she settled she moved freely and precise. 2 Turner, Rafthouse Painted lady, silver dapple, no denying this exhibit has quality, fair in head with a good eye, well proportioned in body with good ribbing, would however prefer a little more leg length to complete the picture, yet again presented in excellent condition by this exhibitor. 3 Latham-Jackson, Dolyharp Simply a Song. PGB (6) Good class to sort out. 1 Boyle, Zarcrest Ice on Fire, cream, has all the credentials to go all the way to the top. Exquisite head eye and expression, excellent general outline, spot on top line and tail set with a well angulated rear, stands on quality bone with neat feet, moved positively on the out and back, holding her outline at all times. Presented in excellent condition and well handled, should with normal luck make it to the top! 2 McCarthy, Nagshall Puppet on a String, shaded/cream correct in head which is of the correct conical shape, good eye and expression, correct front assembly, well ribbed, level top line leading to a well angulated rear. Moved out well both on the out and back holding her outline on the go around. Close up to the winner. 3 Worswick, Dolyharp Gypsy Music. LB (7) Another good class plenty of quality. 1 McAlpine & Walsh, Walpines Cream Brandy, cream, this exhibit has so much to offer, stunning head qualities, lovely eye and expression, excellent neck and front assembly, correct over all body outline, bang on top line and tail set. Excellent length in rib which is well sprung, has quality in bone with neat compact feet. On the move she shows free flowing strides holding her outline at all times, pushed her stable mate all the way to the wire. RCC on the day, her day will come! 2 Metcalf, Metadale Lallique, red, of quality, correct in head with a good eye and expression, excellent length in neck, good over all body length with well bent stifles. Has quality bone with feet ok, moved well to gain her spot here, however felt she would benefit for more body weight. 3 Young, Willowheath Frosting Angel. OB (6) 1 Walsh & McAlpines, Ir Ch Walpines Queens Council b/t. Remember the old saying, a dachshund should be long, low and level. Well look no further this exhibit has all those attributes and many more. Stunning head piece of the correct conical shape, excellent eye and expression, super neck and fore quarters, elbow held close to ribs which have good length, top line firm which leads to a well angulated rear, she has quality in bone with super feet. On the move she is graceful with free flowing strides so true going away with good extension up front. As usual from this kennel presented in stunning coat and condition. Pleased to award he the cc, her second and BOB. Hope her third is not too far away. 2 Rees, Rafthouse Classic Cliché at Amical red, has plenty to admire, lovely head qualities, correct shape and balance, good length in neck, excellent ribbing with good bone and feet, she is sound on the out and back just not the outline on the go around as the winner however was presented in excellent form. 3 Norton, Halunke Casalini.
