MINIATURE LONG DACHSHUND
I was pleased with the entry, and thought the
quality was higher than the last time I judged. I was trying to find dogs that
had the correct proportions (ie not too long) and had decent leg length (which
most did). My top winners certainly met those criteria and were much of a type,
I thought. There are a number of areas that need considering, the most striking
on the day was feet. The overwhelming majority had flat feet. I don't know if
this is breeding or conditiong or both, but in a hunting/digging breed this is a
serious fault. Pigment was poor in some and watch for narrow underjaws, a few
had canines almost running into the roof of the mouth. Fronts as ever were a
problem, quite often the actual angle between the shoulder and upper arm was 90
degrees, but the shoulder was upright and the upper arm lay parallel to the
ground. Interesting to have a handful shown slightly over 11lb desired maxium
weight. These were actually quite well covered and although I took the fault
into account, some were placed, whereas if they had been just under 11lb and
thin they would not have been placed at all. MPD. (2). Two
different types but show promise. 1. Oxley's, Dinkidax Donnovan. More forward.
Lengthy head with good eye. Long neck, good lay of shoulder, elbows can tighten.
Liked his bone and feet. Topline can firm. Well ribbed. Good bend of stifle.
True front action, tends to go with rear under him. 2. Welton's, Chelance Mr
McTavish. Much more raw in body. Masculine head, dark eyes. Lengthy neck,
shoulders a bit wide set. Holds a firm topline. Well pronounced forechest.
Decent rear. PD. (6). Feet a problem here, as they were all
day. 1. Brooks', Lyndarlea Latte. Well balanced dog of pleasing proportions.
Almond eyes, lengthy head with well set ears. Holds a firm topline. Quite well
ribbed back. Needs more angulation both ends. BPD. 2. Mee's, Barlaine's Star
Time. Typy sort of dog with enough leg and one of better shoulders in class.
Masculine head, dark eye. Bit down on pastern and feet. Long in loin. Uses his
well made rear very well. 3. Shutt's, Donnadoon Dare to Dream. JD.
(8,2). 1. Hallett's, Donnadoon Shadow Phantom cum Loretto. Stood is a super
shape and ideal proportions. Carries enough coat for age. Lovely head, good
neck. Level topline. Well laid shoulders. Rather flat feet. Ribs go well back.
Good bend of stifle and low hocks. Moves true with fair stride. 2. Holmes's,
Tammera Touch of Class. Very good shape stood. Long masculine head and dark eye.
Long neck. Fair front. Feet could be better and comes towards a bit over
crooked. Topline can settle. Very good rear. 3. Clarke's, Summerview Distant
Darkness to Hilmar. PGD. (5). 1. Barrow's, Zarcrest Dancing on
Ice to Frankanwen. Super proportions. Has a long rib and short loin. Good feet.
A rarity so far. Masculine head. Could have more neck and is a bit thick over
shoulders. Well angled from correct underline. Well made rear. He is full of
muscle and coat prostine. 2. McCarthy's, Nagshall Oklahoma Sunrise JW. Lot to
like about him. Just a bit long cast and not feet of winner, but better than
most. Super head. Good length of neck. Prominent forechest, well sprung ribs.
Nice rear. 3. Brooks', Lyndarlea Bubbles. LD. (6,1). 1.
Brooks', Lyndarlea Raferty JW. Lovely proportions on him and holds his good
outline going round. Very good masculine head, super eye and pigment. Lengthy
neck. Well made front. Good in upper arm. Won on feet. Well ribbed. Firm topline.
Well muscled rear. Rather narrow coming towards. 2. Roberts', Ravenways Torneri
at Dandydayo. Liked his proportions. Masculine in head. Slightly bold in eye and
nose could be blacker. Good neck. Nice shoulders. Feet a bit flat. Long ribs.
Fair rear. 3. McCarthy's, Nagshall All Guns Blazing. OD. (1).
High quality class. 1. McAlpine and Walsh's, Ch/Ir Ch. Walpines Brandy Bitter.
Super for proportions. Holds his lovely shape on the move. Lengthy and masculine
head, darkest of eyes. Well set ears. Super bone and feet. Good front. Holds a
firm topline. Could be shorter in loin. Very good rear. Low hocks and really
drives going away. Rare indeed. CC and BOB. 2. Boyle's, Ch. Zarcrest Ice
Conqueror. Similar type of dog. He too has a lovely head with dark almond eyes.
Just a wee bit narrow in front and not feet of winner. Well ribbed. Very good
hind angles and like winner, correct coat. RCC. 3. Holden's, Sengepabu Saint
Valentine. MPB. (1). All very much babies, plenty of promise.
1. Angears', Ridgegrove Jasmine. Liked her proportions and type. She is very
pleasing on the table. Feminine in head. Long neck. Best front in class and so
true coming to. Well ribbed. Just needs to settle as to be expected. BP. 2.
Edward's, Barok Blonde Bombshell. Another I liked very much. Super head and dark
eye. Enough neck. Very good feet. Fairly tight elbows. Nice rear. Topline should
settle. 3. Geeson's, Abydachs Absolutely. PB. (3). 1. Geeson's,
Abydachs Apparition. Very much a baby at 6 months. Feminine head, dark eyes,
should should fill in. Lengthy neck. Good forechest. Tight feet. Would like a
bit shorter in back. Rear should settle. 2. Jury's, Torwood High on Ice. Her
proportions earn't her this place. Feminine head but a bit weak in muzzle and
rounded in skull. Very good length of neck. Fair front. Feet can tighten. 3.
Green's, Neertanauf Lucia Rijker. JB. (14,1). Some very lovely
bitches here. 1. Sainsbury's, Ridgegrove Chocolate Drop to Boscolla. Super shape
and proportions. Really used her rear when it mattered. Feminine head, dark eye.
Lengthy neck. Very good front and feet. Well bodied. Enough coat. Firm in
topline. 2. McCarthy's, Magshall Wings of Love. Could just go with a bit more
verve and tummy taps a bit. Long feminine head, super eye and pigment. Not the
feet of the winner. Good body and rib. Level topline. Fairly low hocks. 3.
Holmes's, Tammera Just Elegant. PGB. (10,1). 1. McCarthy's,
Nagshall Sweet Caroline. Very honest type of bitch. Very good head with dark
almond eyes. Lengthy neck. Well laid shoulders. Could have better feet. Holds a
firm topline which put her over second. Quite good rear. 2. Angear's, Ridgegrove
Golden Girl. Well made bitch. Feminine, maybe could have stronger head. Super
neck and front. Good ribs which go well back. Liked her hind action. 3.
Edwards', Barok Blondie Kiah. LB. (11,3). 1. Boyle and
Blackburn-Bennett's, Zarcrest Ice on Fire. Has super proportions and set up
looks an absolute picture. Feminine head. Length neck. Could have a slightly
better front and feet. Super topline. Well ribbed body with deep chest, but
enough daylight under. Nice rear. RCC. 2. McCarthy's, Nagshall Puppet on a
Strong. Lots to admire. Feminine bitch. Head could be just a bit stronger with
less stop. Lengthy neck. Feet could be better. Well bodied up. Ok in topline.
Fair rear. Holds tail down just enough. 3. Mee's, Barcaine's Summer Star.
OB. (6,1). 1. McAlpine and Walsh's, Ir Ch. Walpimes Brandy
Cream. High quality bitch. Feminine in head, dark eye. Fair neck. Best front
assembly in class. Super ribs for depth and spring. Feet could be a tad tighter
and loin shorter. Holds a firm topline. Uses her rear better than second. Very
good mover. CC. 2. Graham's, Hillstar Lexzina of Jadag. Very feminine bitch with
a good head. Her dark eyes could be more almond. Lengthy neck. Long upper arm.
Shoulder a bit forward. Well bodied. Topline ok. Well bent stifle. 3.
Sainsbury's, Boscolla the Lady Isabella.
