DACHSHUND - MINIATURE LONG HAIRED
Thank-you exhibitors for
accepting me at such short notice as replacement judge for Stuart Mallard. He
had drawn an excellent entry. I was concerned to find a number far too thin, I
am sure due to exhibiters anxious that they weighed incorrectly, but a very
underweight dog cannot be a healthy dog! Miniature Dachshunds are not Toy dogs,
and must be robust dogs with quality bone, muscle and substance. Some too short
in neck, and others having no ground clearance. I have mentioned before, I
like the fact that the word "compact" is in the standard relating to body
proportion. Although the Dachund appears long in body, it must be close knit,
and a unit. Overlong bodies make for weak backs when the front end appears that
it does not belong to the back. Also, important to have good strong teeth. In
some cases, although mouths had correct bite, teeth were too small. Having said
that, did find in some lovely quality animals. My notes on the individual dogs,
are brief, as I prefer to summarise faults and virtues in my general comments
on the breed.
MPD (3) 1 Passey's Ambyth Dizzee Rascal Via Cagebrook NAF. Fills the
eye with type and quality. Firm front, moving so well with correct tail
carriage. Hope he does not go over size, but one judges on the day. BP & RCC.2

lovely quality. 3 Green's Neertanauf Jack Jones.
PD (2) 1 Green's Neertanauf Jack Jones. Came from previous class. Good
example. Can do well when his tail carriage settles. 2 Latham-Jackson's Criscan

more daylight underneath.
