MIN L/H – Many thanks for inviting me to judge at this lovely show again. Also appreciation to my steward who kept me in line through a long day. The bottle of wine was greatly appreciated.

I think this is the first time in 30 years that my top winners in dogs have been cream & the top winning bitches b/t. At least I am not colour prejudiced.

A lovely entry of 90 dogs with few absentees. I was surprised at the depth of quality today. Min Longs have gone down in numbers & quality in recent years, I presume since PRA reared its ugly head. I should say that most of the exhibits today were acceptable.

The Puppy classes & Limit were really hot & full of quality, plus of course PGB from which my find of the day came.

Perhaps numbers will start to pick up & be approaching the Min S/h entries.

Good points. Only two or three dogs needing more body but not skinny enough to be reported. I would much prefer a dog to be 4 or 5oz over as this is not such a problem these days. Temperaments were good throughout. Bites OK, only a couple overshot slightly. Grooming & coat texture were excellent on the whole. My hands remained clean all day. Movement on the whole varied but most was acceptable with the winners being very good.

Now for the not so good news. Still the same old moans. No excuse for filthy teeth. I actually taxed one exhibitor about this, the canines need paint stripper on. Ugh. She was placed accordingly. Broad skulls & short snipey muzzles abound with traffic light eyes. Thin, flat feet. Short upper arms & ribbing. Too long in loin. Only a proportion of course but the exhibitors really should take note for their future breeding.

B (3,1a) 1 Phillips’ Summerview Up And Coming, rich red girl, 7 months, looks like she will have a good coat. Well developed front for age. Typical head & eye, sound enough on the move. Promising; 2 Tubb’s Minard Diamond In The Sky, nice to see this old affix again. Cream, shown by a young girl & she will gain experience with time – taken me 51 years! Very pretty little bitch. From what I could examine on the table everything seems to be as required. She looks a different girl on moving, I could see promise. Keeps a lovely shape & is sound. Only 6 months. In the puppy class I couldn’t place either as the other exhibits were more mature. MPD (3,1) 1 Cawley & King’s Summerview Perfect Percy, lovely shaded/r. A real male head & outlook seldom seen nowadays. Very confident & moved so soundly with style. Very well constructed. One of the few with good feet. Very promising; 2 Johnson’s Charpurdy Just Andy, beautifully presented b/t, well constructed, good width throughout. Decent keel & ribbing. Preferred the head of 1 & needs to tighten in hind movement as yet but only a baby. PD (6) 1 Harris’ Zarcrest Frozen Assets, very glamorous rich cream, 10 months. Nothing I would change. Correct size. Not too long or too short. Excellent construction. Super chunky well angulated hindquarters. Well ribbed & a good width all through. Stormed around the ring. Should easily make up. CC & BPD; 2 S Perfect Percy; 3 Brooks’ Lyndarlea Kelly. JD (3) These boys were as different in type as chalk & cheese. Not an easy class from that point of view. 1 Norton’s Halunke Going Dutch, eyecatching rich red, excellent ground clearance. Masculine head & correct eye, good shoulders. Front needs to develop as yet. Only 14 months. Very stylish eyecatching mover, really covers the ground. Needs to tighten in the rear as yet. Liked him; 2 McCarthy’s Nagshall Whatsitalabout, shaded/cr. On profile when entering the ring & moving to the side he could have had more of a battle for 1st place. However on the table although looking super in profile I found him to be longer in loin than I like, narrower all through. Real doggy head. Better front development than 1. Decent shoulders. Lovely length of neck which when moving in profile gave an elegant houndy look; 3 Vine’s Cishelvine Half In The Shade. PGD (9) Good class numerically but not in overall quality. I found that finding the animal to fill my eye very difficult. However the first two were more typical. 1 Cooper’s Jumanda’s Renaissance, b/t, this boy is very typy, have admired him from the ringside before. Chunky hindquarters & is very shapely. Well developed front & shoulders. Looked well moving & good width all through. Would prefer a shade more neck length & steadier hind movement; 2 McCarthy’s Nagshall Mr Tambourine Man, lovely rich red. Very handsome head. Pronounced front. Very typy but again longer in loin than I like. Stylish mover, a shade narrow going away; 3 Latham-Jackson’s Criscan Leonel of Urishay. LD (10) Much better quality overall than the last class. 1 Woodage’s Totonian Toscanini, lovely b/br, in beautiful condition. Quality boy, not too big. Excellent angulation front & rear. Moved soundly with correct topline. Correct head & eye; 2 Woodall’s Half A Century at Rarewood, absolutely loved this beautifully marked silver dapple. Was tempted to give him the class at first but as the placings were very close I had to nit pick. Would wish him with 4/5 ounces on which would just put the finishing touch. He is not too lean but in hard condition; 3 Early’s Yelva Mister Brandy. OD (5) 1 Hallsworth’s Ch Abydachs Aniseed, rich cream, a lesson in presentation. Correct flat, glossy coat, not too profuse. Decent bone for size. Head whilst not over strong is still very male. Nice feet. Chunky well angulated hindquarters. Very fluid driving mover. Beautiful. CC & BOB; 2 Brown’s Garbosa Raising Caine, choc/t, another showy sound boy. Enough front, decent ribbing & hind angulation. Not quite as masculine as 1 in head. Stylish sound mover keeping his shape at all times. VD (1) 1 Young’s Ch Willowheath Henry, 7½ years, good teeth, correctly constructed all through. Beautifully presented & very sound. Good width going away & coming to me. Considered him for RCC. Super boy.

MPB (9) Lovely quality class of babies. 1 Brown’s Mystera Once Upon A Time, 7 months red, chunky, roly poly baby. Well off for bone, sweet head & expression. Good width throughout. Moved happily. Just needs time as one expects at this tender age. Far too many are so mature & then fail to reach their earlier promise; 2 Poole’s Findowrie Dixie Rose, another promising red baby of 8 months. Well developed front, lovely head. Looked well in profile standing & moving. Movement OK coming to me, just needs to settle going away; 3 Cooper’s Jumanda’s Silver Slipper. PB (8,2) Lovely, lovely babies again. 1 Worswick’s Dolyharp Coppelia, BP. What a cracker, as was 2 Mitchell’s Bronia Peach Fuzz (lovely name for a girl). Very close decision between 1 & 2, nit picking. Coppelia was a shade truer in front today. Both are very scopy covering plenty of ground on the move, driving out from the rear. Both have good width going away & coming too. Coppelia has a little more ground clearance than Peach Fuzz. I am sure these 2 will change places often. Both surely should make up; 3 Norton’s Halunke Just Magick. JB (4,1) Three nice girls, all differing in type. Bit of a headache. 1 Brooks’ Lyndarlea Little Pearl, shaded/cr, textbook front development & excellent shoulders & ribbing. Chunky well angulated hindquarters. Coat just coming through to its best. Moves freely but needs to steady a shade behind. Still has plenty of time; 2 Norton’s Halunke Dutch Affair, I note is sister to my JD winner. Lovely rich red. Moves very freely with lots of drive & style. Like her brother would prefer a more pronounced front. More going for them than against. Coats are going to take longer but prefer this to overcoated; 3 McCarthy’s Nagshall Loralei.  PGB (11) Much better class than the dog class. Quality down the line. 1 Latham-Jackson’s Urishey Sweet Pea, my find of the day. Never seen this bitch or owner before. So nice to award a first CC to dog & owner. Well done. B/t lady, beautifully presented. On the table I was delighted to find that she came up to expectations from the view I had of her moving around. So well constructed from her excellent keel & spring of rib. No long loin here. Well angulated behind. Extremely fluent stylish mover. Her handler gets the best out of her. Loved her. CC; 2 Johnson’s Charpurdy Just Willow, another lovely type. Very feminine b/t, in gleaming condition. I see she is daughter my VD & VB winners. A good mating. Good length of neck giving an elegant look. So many are really stuffy in this area. Very sound; 3 McCarthy’s Nagshall Love Actually. LB (10) Dream of a class for quality down the line. 1 Brown’s Garbosa Pixie Boots, most beautiful b/t lady. Her coat gleamed. Excellent well laid back shoulder, super hindquarters which she used on driving around the ring. Kept her shape standing & moving in profile. RCC; 2 Brooks’ Eezy Magic Nite at Lyndarlea, another most beautiful rich red. Not overcoated but gleaming & correct texture. Very feminine head & correct eye. Moved out well with good width coming to me & going away. Difficult decision here & came down to 1 just clearing a little more ground on the move but nit picking; 3 Worswick’s Dolyharp Bitter Sweet. OB (8,1) 1 Mourton’s Dinkidudlor Isha Aurog at Eldmour, very pretty shaded/r. Coat an example for correct length & texture. I found her very appealing all round. Nice size & free mover, so sound. Wish I had more CCs & RCCs for bitches especially; 2 Norris’ Criscan Karess, well presented b/t. Sweet head & expression, well boned. Movement sound enough. To be picky would like thicker feet; 3 Green’s Eldmour Electra. VB (5) 1 Johnson’s Ch Charpurdy Just Iss, gave this delightful girl her third CC & BOB 2½ years ago. Now 7 years I still love her. Looking so well. What a showgirl. She can show the youngsters how it is done. Good bone & substance for her size. Moves so well with lots of enthusiasm; 2 Hellens’ Andynromadax Alanna at Lynbain, didn’t recognise this lady. She is looking super. I think having had a litter a while ago must have just put that finishing touch. Typical head, well boned & decent feet which are few & far between. Well deserved her place; 3 E Electra.
