How sad it must have been for Sue Roberts to feel the need to withdraw from this appointment after attracting 94 dogs. As contracted judge for 2017 the club asked me to take over Sue’s entry which I was more than happy to do. I hope you will soon be on the road to recovery Sue & we all hope to see you soon

I last judged this variety at The Dachshund Club in 2013.From this entry today I felt the good examples stood apart from the rest. The quality in bitches was greater than the dogs. Overall mouths are good & I was impressed with how clean they are. Heads tend to be broad over the skull at the moment, lots have long elegant necks but shoulders & upperarm are still a concern, ribbing, body weight & condition where very good with very few on the lean side. Hind quarters where my biggest disappointment with long hocks, short second thigh producing no drive from behind giving the ‘Tummy tapping’ impression. Just two tails today with Kinks in them. Sportsmanship was a credit to the variety, how unusual is it to hear clapping around the ring these days?. It added to the atmosphere & I’m sure was appreciated by everyone. I had two great stewards & the Icing on the cake was our BOB going Best In Show & our BP going Best Puppy In Show under Daphne Graham .Congratulations

V D/B (6). 1 & BV, Johnson’s Ch Charpurdy Just Iss, 8 yr B/t bitch, really beautiful & feminine, very good head & dark almond eye, well arched neck leading into lovely shoulders & angles, plenty of fore chest that fits so well with Keel that extends well back, fabulous body & ribbing, well made firm hammy quarters,so well angulated, ultra sound coming & going & in profile clearly displays correct reach in front & follow through from behind. Still gives a lovely overall picture & full of breed type. Pushed the younger bitches hard in the challenge & on this performance can still hold her own in any company. 2, Jamieson’s Ch Djeata Spring Blossom, 10 yr S/r bitch, so well made throughout, lovely feminine head & expression, well arched neck leading into correct shoulders, very good body & ribbing with firm topline & underline, short loins, short loins leading into well made quarters, another very sound girl coming & going & projects herself well in profile though not in the style of 1 today.
