My thanks to South Wales CS for inviting me to judge.
As has been said before about this variety of Dachshund the depth of quality is to be found in the bitches, the good examples stood out in all the classes especially in the dogs. I do hope that exhibitors & breeders will start to take a long look at their breeding programs & search out stud dogs that will not only complement their bitches but enhance the good points & help to mitigate the faults. Although some exhibits were out of coat all were presented in a clean manner which I appreciated.
MPD (1) 1 Patterson’s Piran Without Prejudice, confident, chunky baby showing well for age. Pleasing head with good pigmentation. Correct front construction with good ribbing & rear assembly. Moved out well for a youngster on his own in the class. PD (1) A. JD (2) 1 Locket-Walters & Walters’ Ralines Royal Rebel, just out of puppy this youngster is maturing well, correctly shaped head with dark eyes & pigmentation. Good front assembly leading to a good length of ribbing, short loin connects to well shaped rear end. Would like more enthusiasm on the move; 2 McCarthy’s Nagshall Port Au Prince, taller type with masculine head carried on a well shaped neck. Not as firm in topline on the move, & lacking in rear extension. PGD (4) 1 McCarthy’s Nagshall Digby Mac, masculine cream of smaller type, good front assembly & length of ribbing, well covered dog which moved with drive, just tending to lose his topline when stacked; 2 Kennedy’s Kinchville Great Gatsby, shaded/r dog with correctly shaped head & dark eyes, lacking in length of neck & front assembly could be neater. Good top & underline held on the move, needs to stride out more in rear action; 3 Brooks’ Inkums Chilli Pepper at Lynderlea. LD (4) 1 McCarthy’s Nagshall Justintime, cream dog with good head & expression leading to well shaped neck & front assembly, firm hindquarters which he used well on the move; 2 Brooks’ Lynderlea Kenny, another dog with a correct head & pleasing expression. Good overall balance, true movement coming & going, just not the overall finish as 1; 3 Mortlake’s Metadale Leandros at Hertsmerry. OD (5) 1 Lathom-Jackson’s Criscan Leonel of Urishay, longer cast dog but everything in proportion & balanced. Good head & expression carried on well shaped neck which leads to correct front assemble & firm topline which is maintained both on the move & when stacked. Moved with confidence & drive. CC; 2 Kennedy’s Denkena Loganberry, very sound well balanced dog with pleasing head & expression carried on well shaped neck leading to good front & hindquarters. Correct top & underline held on the move, just not as free in movement as 1 but a very pleasing type. RCC; 3 McCarthy’s Nagshall Just Santana. VD (0). GCD (1) 1 Green’s Neertanauf Jack Jones, shaded/r with good head shape, would prefer a darker eye & better front assembly. Held his topline on the move & strode out well.
MPB (2) 1 Worswick’s Chriskim’s Classical Jazz at Dolyharp, pleasing dark brindle with correctly shaped head & dark eyes with dark pigment giving a lovely expression. Good front assembly leading to good length of ribbing & hindquarters which enabled him to move with drive; 2 Paterson’s Prisca Pride And Passion, still very much a baby puppy with promising attributes, just needs time & confidence. PB (4) 1 Graham’s Hillstar Krismas Rose of Jadag, another very promising puppy, just oozes breed type from her well shaped head through her correct front assembly to strong hindquarters. She really moved around the ring as if she owned it. I look forward to watching her continued success. Just needs that final maturity for the top spot. RCC; 2 Hall’s Cliffmere Levity, promising cream with good front & rear assemblies. Correct outline when stacked but didn’t do herself justice on the move today; 3 Lawrence & O’Connor’s Silfay Sugarbabe. JB (5) 1 Higgins’ Ralines Royal Reggata at Levelis, stylish compact cream with pleasing head & expression. Moved with drive holding her outline at all times, best mover in this class; 2 McCarthy’s Nagshall Port Alice, longer cast type, not the angulation of first & tending to run up on the move; 3 Johnson’s Charpurdy Mceve. PGB (7) 1 Brooks’ Willott Astra at Pauntley, best mover in the class, good head & eye shape. Good front & rearquarters which enabled her to move true coming & going; 2 O’Connor’s Silfly Sweet Georgia Brown, taller type than 1, with an adequate front & length of ribbing, not the drive of 1; 3 Brown’s Devoncream Montserrat. LB (6,2) 1 Lockett-Walters & Walters’ Ralines Kandi Kisses, this well proportioned bitch really stood out in this class. Correct head shape which was carried on a well shaped neck. Correct proportions on front & rearquarters. Good ribbing & short loin with correct top & underline. Moved with drive & confidence presenting good reach in profile. Good pigmentation & coat completed the overall picture. CC & BOB; 2 Mortlock’s Metadale Leonie at Hertsmerry, well constructed bitch who presents a good profile on the move just not the finish of 1; 3 Rees’ Urishay Lupin. OB (10,1) 1 Locket-Walters & Walters’ Ralines The Last Word, well made bitch of great Dachshund type. Correctly proportioned head with lovely expression & dark eye. Correctly laid shoulders leading to long ribbing & strong hindquarters. Moved out well both coming & going away really showing her stride in profile. Unfortunate to meet her kennelmate in the challenge whilst out of coat; 2 Worswick’s Dolyharp Desert Song, another lovely bitch of different type to 1, good proportions & angulation, moved out with drive. Just preferred head of 1; 3 Johnson’s Ch Charprudy Just Willow. VB (2) 1 Norris’ Xemxija Star Struck at Criscan, well constructed red bitch which moved out well; 2 Green’s Eldmour Electra, another older bitch that moved really well, just preferred the head of 1. GCB (1) 1 Green’s Neertanauf Lucia Rijker, smaller constructed red that moved out well, perfectly in step with her handler.
