Thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge this breed at your show, & thanks also to my stewards. There were some excellent specimens of Min Longs there & I was pleased with my top placing & line-ups. Many needed a little more training as was rather noisy in the hall, but there was a lovely selection of mini longs for me to judge & thank you to the exhibitors for providing such a super entry for me to choose from.

Looking at the sample of the breed that I had to judge, I feel that slowly but surely, the variety is improving from when I judged last time, but unfortunately, there remain many Dachshunds with incorrect front construction, lack of ribbing & poor hind action. A few certainly did not like the noise & their surroundings, & were a bit unsettled, but Dachshunds are supposed to be bold. Quite a few dogs’ needed teeth cleaning, all teeth, not just those at the front, which if done regularly from the beginning, should not be a problem. Some dogs carried a few extra ounces, & none appeared noticeably thin. I liked all the line ups for the challenges very much, & some choices were close decisions

V (6) 1 Worswick’s Dolyharp Gypsy Music, 8 year old red bitch, a well constructed & smart moving bitch, with good head, lovely reach of neck leading into correctly angulated shoulders, & with firm quarters, & she was in top form today, presenting a compact balanced outline on the move. BV; 2 Young’s Ch Willowheath Hendrix, 9 year old b/t, another top quality dog, who was correct all through, & presented so well, with a super coat, & who moved soundly. Well deserved champion; 3 Jury’s Torwood Guns And Roses at Walnutfarm. MPD (3) 1 Poole’s Findowrie Franchise, s/r, lovely sound puppy, just a little immature as yet, but lovely to go over. Nice head & expression, with good pro sternum & excellent shoulders & so well ribbed. He moved truly both ways. Excellent bone & good feet, should mature nicely; 2 Jury’s Bluebegin Thunder N’Light over Torwood, nicely marked, compact s/d, not the front construction of 1 as yet, but hope it will come with maturity, as was nice type; 3 Wyeth’s Inkum’s Henry Higgins. PD (2,1a) 1 Brooks’ Lynderlea Just Andy, this mature quality cream puppy took my eye, with lovely head, correctly assembled shoulders, good ribbing & sound quarters. With a super coat, he maintained his outline throughout as he drove around the ring & went on to win CC, BP & so pleased to see him go BPIS; 2 B Thunder N’Light over T. JD (3,1) 1 Lockett-Walter’s Ralines Royal Rebel, b/c, top quality dog, who was well balanced with correct proportions all through, lovely head & shoulders, good angulation front & rearend, well ribbed & with sound movement, just playing up a little today. RCC; 2 McCarthy’s Nagshall Port Au Prince, s/c who showed well, but was a little tucked up as he went around the ring in this class, but much improved in next class, where he showed his outline off. Nicely constructed shoulders & excellent ribbing, good quarters & feet; 3 Shutt’s Stargazer of Donnadoon. YD (3,1) 1 N Port Au Prince; 2 Pitfield’s Luna Caprese D’Oroed Argento of Follyfield, very nicely marked s/d, higher set all through, with good head & ribbing. Front angulation was not quite what I was looking for, & for me he moved a little too closely coming towards. PGD (5) 1 McCarthy’s Nagshall Justintime, s/c, nice Dachshund but perhaps a little longer in loin than I would choose, but having said that, he had correct shoulders & super ribs, lovely bone, firm quarters & moved really well; 2 Hall’s Cliffmere Forrester, just loved this red for type & quality, but a little unsettled on the table. Good head, super front & back angulation & excellent ribbing. Drove around well; 3 Breeze’s Silkdown Phoenix Rising. LD (4) Close decision 1 & 2. 1 Brook’s Lynderlea Kenny, b/t, nice type, well balanced, & correctly put together all through. Excellent ribbing & with correct angles front & back, moves well with super outline; 2 Earley’s Lilacfen Sonny Delight of Yelfa, quality s/d, correctly constructed all through with super front, correct shoulders & ribbing. Just preferred drive of 1 on move; 3 McCarthy’s Nagshall Digby Mac. OD (7) 1 Brook’s Obdax Lynn’s Badger, s/d, with correct proportions, good head, excellent ribbing front & shoulder placement. Nice outline maintained, as he moved round; 2 Weston & Johnson’s Galrhia Twice As Nice at Ecotyne, b/t, lovely type, correctly assembled all through, with lovely head, shoulders & ribbing, moved well. Just preferred the overall proportions of 1; 3 McCarthy’s Nagshall Just Santana.

MPB (7,2) 1 Metcalf’s Metadale Ariadne, super top quality s/r baby, compact & well proportioned, correct head & shoulder placement & well ribbed, with sound quarters, she looked a picture on the move, demonstrating her lovely outline & drive; 2 Budsworth’s Ambyth Magic Combination, a little similar in type to 1, this b/t had a good head & ribbing & nice quarters to match. Moved well around the ring, but just not the drive of 1 today; 3 Brook’s Lynderlea Vienna. PB (9,2) 1 Lockett’s Ralines’ Flirtini, quality & soundness all through, with best of fronts & oval ribbing, this lovely cream little lady was all I could ask for in construction. Just needs to keep her head up on the move to show herself off, as she matures, & will be one for the top I’m sure; 2 Oxley’s Pearl Our Pride And Joy at Dinkidax, quality s/c, with good head & ribbing, & nicely boned, but not quite the depth of body as 1 as yet. With plenty of time to mature, she moved correctly both going & coming & I liked her very much; 3 Norris’ Criscan Odds Bodkins. JB (10,1) Close decision. 1 McCarthy’s Nagshall Port Alice, s/c, well constructed sound bitch all through, with correct shoulder assembly, super ribbing & good head. She had well angulated quarters, & drove around well, with good outline throughout; 2 Graham’s Hillstar Xmas Rose of Jadag, sh/r, with correct head, & with best of fronts & shoulder construction, & so well ribbed, I just preferred the overall outline of 1 on the move today; 3 Hall’s Cliffmere Levity. YB (3) 1 Graham’s Devoncream Lily Luna at Jadag, cr/br, lovely bitch of good type, correct well marked coat, & with super head & so well ribbed. Her correctly angulated shoulders matched her sound quarters, & enabled her to move with drive around the ring, keeping correct outline throughout; 2 N Port Alice, just preferred outline & drive of 1 in this class; 3 Young’s Willowheath Magic Sunset. PGB (5) Tough decision for 1 & 2. 1 Young’s Willowheath Vera Lynn, lovely type b/t, so correct, well balanced, loved her bone & construction all through, angulation of shoulders & quarters was correct & balanced, & her lovely oval ribs gave her the edge. Drove so well as she moved around. RCC; 2 Poole’s Findowrie Dixie Rose, top quality s/r who also looked good on the move, & was so nicely put together all through, with a lovely front & head, correct coming & going, she moved correctly & presented good outline; 3 McCarthy’s Nagshall Hey Kari Ann. LB (9,1) Some lovely quality bitches in this class. 1 Ralines Kandi Kisses, quality light red, good bitch, correct all through, well balanced & with good ribbing. Moved so well as she drove round; 2 Mee’s Barlaine’s Red Splendour, quality bitch all through. Finer than 1 but adequate bone, but a little unsure of herself at times. Lovely head & superb ribbing, she moved truly both ways & kept excellent profile; 3 Young’s Willowheath Silver Charmer. OB (10,2) Some lovely bitches here. 1 Lockett Walter’s Ralines The Last Word, b/cr of super type, so correct all through, with good head & reach of neck & the best of front assemblies. Her quarters were sound & she was so well balanced as she moved with good reach & drive, showing herself to perfection today. CC, & told after it gives her her crown, BOB, & so pleased to see her later go RBIS; 2 Metcalf’s Metadale Aphrodite, sh/cr, smaller type than 1, this lady was also so correctly constructed all through, with lovely shoulders, ribs & quarters, & was a picture on the move, keeping a good profile throughout; 3 Mee’s Barlaine’s Golden Delight.
