Thank you to the committee for asking me to judge Miniature Long Haired Dachshunds at your breed show.
I thoroughly enjoyed my day, company was fabulous, lunch was tasty, stewards were excellent, sportsmanship was mostly good and the wind was bitter!!
I had some seriously amazing hounds today and I was pleased to find out I awarded a male his 50th CC and a Cream girl her crowing CC with youngsters scooping up the RCCs which is always exciting to have wonderful younsgters coming along. Huge congratualtions to these kennels who again and again produce hounds with real breed type, substance and elegance.
I was dissapointed to find keels which could be better and some underlines which really aren’t correct which is such an important part of any Dachshund. Some condition and muscle could have been better on many but I suppose we are all coming out of lockdown in a less than beach ready body!
I find it really sad to hear some comments from the ringside about the same old faces winning time and time again, however these kennels really have mastered the art of breeding and producing quality hounds and I am sure would always be willing to help and advise. We all enjoy our very competitive hobby but it can only get better when we all up our game and critique our own dogs more honestly.
Veteran D/B (1,0)
1st Mee – Barlaines Golden Delight – BV
Quality red bitch at 7.5 years old. Pleasing head with elegant set on from skull to neck. Well angulated shoulders with a good length of upper arm. Enough bone. Feet well padded. A little slopey in topline for me, underline correct, long keel. Prefer a little more muscle which would help keep her hind movement tight and a little more condition overall. She is only 7 and although a veteran still wouldn’t look out of place in an open class. In good coat. Shown well.
Minor Puppy Dog (3,1)
1st Geeson – Abydachs Alpha Centauri – RCC
This boy truly was a pleasure to judge. He wasn’t as mature as 2nd but he just shines with quality and sparkle. Quality head, almond eyes which are dark, good pigment. At this moment his front and hind quarters are all just sitting right as he hasn’t hit that awkward stage yet. He is beautifully balanced with bone and substance. Topline and underline spot on, long keel. Shown in great coat. One to watch I think.
2nd Mitchell – Bronia King Crimson
Another quality boy who has perhaps just hit that awkward stage. Beautiful breed type, head masculine, eye shape and pigment excellent. Front and hind quarters just to settle again. He ozzes presence and quality on the move. Long ribbing and keel. Another one to watch in the future.
Puppy Dog (No Entries)
Junior Dog (2,1)
1st Bell – Nebodaxies Dream Come True
The wind was blowing a hooley as we say in Scotland and straight in the door which made this junior boy a little unsettled on the move. Nice quality boy with a smart head, eye shape, pigment and ear set. Elegant in neck. Shoulders and rear at this real awkward stage which will settle with time but totally where he should be at this age. Chest will deepen and bisket will fill, keel long and ribs well back. Topline good, chest will fill nicely as he matures which will complete his underline. Smart boy though.
Post Graduate Dog (4,2)
1st Mee – Barlaines Commander
Very handsome boy, masculine head, almond eyes and pigment good. Neck elegant which flowed into well laid shoulers, upper arm of good length, keel long and ribbing well back. Plenty of bone. Rear a little loose at moment and some extra muscle and work would tighten this up. Tail set good. Moved well in profile and coming. Well handled and presented.
2nd Bell – Artingeldax Luck Changer at Nebodaxies
A smart although a little compact all through dapple boy. Head clean and masculine, good eye shape and pigment with fill under eye. Neck clean and elegant. Front and rear balanced, well sprung ribs, loin short and compact. Would prefer a slightly better L to H ratio. Movement in profile and coming was excellent.
Limit Dog (5,0)
1st Irvine – Bronia The Dutchman
This boy had real breed type. Masculine, strong head but not overdone, very handsome. Eye shape excellent and dark pigment. He is a really correctly balanced boy with fabulous angulation but I would have prefered a stronger second thigh as his rear movement was parallel but could be tighter. Topline and underline spot on, long keel and ribbing. I really considered this boy for the RCC.
2nd Mee – Barlaines Just William
I think this boy was really feeling the cold as he was throwing his topline but after he warmed up he held it much better and stood correctly. He has quite a pretty head for a male but not really underdone. Eye shape was correct, very dark eyes, pigment, ear placing and shape was lovely. He lacked a little padding on his feet. Angulation front and rear was correct and balanced. Keel was long enough, ribbing well back, loin strong. Underline settled as he relaxed and got into the swing of things. Moved well and shown in good condition.
3rd Dunhill – Zarcrest Flash Gordon at Gellijam
Open Dog (2,0)
1st Wood – Ch. Wildstar Wrobinson JW – CC
I honestly didn’t know this male and I was really pleased to find out I had awarded him his 50th CC today which really isn’t a surprise.
He oozes elegance and breed type. His head is stunning, eye shape textbook, pigment and eye colour dark and correct, ear placing and shape good. His front and rear assembly is so correct you could use to teach with. Chest deep, keel long and ribbing well back, loin strong. Width of second thigh is fabulous. This boy is just stunning stood up and to go over, then he moves and really takes your breath away. This was a real honour to judge him. I really could have taken him home.
2nd Woodvine-Shone – Ralines Sazarac
A smart male who was so unfortunate to meet 1st today. He is a little upright in layback and a little long at hock, but balanced. Head is masculine, pigment dark. Topline spot on. Feet well padded and good bone. Moved well in profile and coming. Presented well and handled beautifully.
Minor Puppy Bitch (3,0)
1st Metcalfe – Metadale Harmonia
Quite a nice type with feminine head. Neck long and elegant with a good layback of shoulder but a little upright in upper arm. Well angulated rear with good width of second thigh. Nice H-L ratio. Topline good and underline sweeping. Long keel, ribbing well back with strong loin. Moved well in all directions. Beautifully presented and well handled.
2nd Drady – Indiko You Are My Destiny
Girl at her awkward stage. Nice head, good planes and eye shape. Front settled but rear to catch up and tighten. Prefer a slightly better topline and underline, ribbing deep but a little short giving her quite a tuck up. She moved well with plenty of presence.
3rd Grady – Indiko Destinys Child at Glenrioch
Puppy Bitch (2,0)
1st Wood – Wildstar Wrolanda – BP
Another quality hound from this kennel. Beautiful aquiline profile, fill under eye and decent underjaw. Elegant neck flowing into well laid shoulders with matching rear. Topline and underline textbook. Ribs deep and well back, long keel. Moved well in all directions. A real super girl who will have a real exciting future I am sure. Presented beautifully.
2nd Shutt – Littl Fut Pandoras Secret for Donnadoon (imp. RUS) TAF NAF
Nice length of head on this girl, good eye shape and pigment. Shoulders and rear are okay at this stage but will settle with time. Chest deep and ribs well back, keel could be longer. It was really cold and wind was blowing in the door at this stage and I think didn’t help this youngster as she was a little unsettled and shy on the table. Moved well in all directions.
Junior Bitch (2,0)
1st Shutt – Starlight Angel of Donnadoon
I liked this girls head, feminine and not underdone, ear set good, elegant from skull to neck. Very balanced and correct front and rear. Topline and underline strong and held well on the move. Loin strong, well padded feet and enough bone. She was moved to perfection with her handler really knowing just what speed suits this hound. Pleasure to judge.
2nd Mason – Crownlake’s Queen Bee
A nice bitch, prefer a slightly stronger head and better fill under eye. Front and rear angulation okay. She was hard to assess on the move as she was moved far too fast and was asked twice to slow down. I think with some condition and muscle she would be tighter all round and would move with more balanced with a better speed.
Post Graduate Bitch (3,1)
1st Bell – Tolberg Cream Delight – RCC
This girl has a real classic houndy head with substance and elegance, eye shape beautiful, pigment and eye colour spot on. Front and rear assembly correct and balanced. Deep ribbing, keel of a super length, ribs carried well back. Plenty of bone and substance with chunky feet. Strong loin. Moved well in all directions. I am personally not a fan of creams but you can’t not see the quality and elegance of this cream girl. Pleasure to award her the RCC.
2nd Mee – Barlaines Razzle Dazzle
Prefer a little more substance and size with this girl. Slightly rounder in eye for me, pigment super. Front was well angulated with a great length of upper arm and good layback. Chest well filled, ribs well back and keel long. Rear could be a little tighter on the move. Moved well though in profile and coming towards. Well presented and handled.
Limit Bitch (4,0)
1st Geeson – Abydachs All About Me
Yet again, another quality hound from this kennel. Real quality throughout. A feminine but not underdone head, good correct planes, ear set, width to muzzle, strong underjaw and dark pigment. Balanced front and rear with good width to second thigh. Ribs deep and carried well back. Keel of fabulous length. Plenty of substance and quality here.
2nd Karspowicz – Daniello Moon Pies Silvaris
A real shame to meet 1st today as was only out done on movement and presence. Quality head, super eye shape and pigment. Prefer a slightly deeper chest. Topline super. Balanced front and rear with good width to second thigh. Moved well and with purpose but just 1st had the edge today. Presented and handled well.
3rd Mason – Tolberg Beez Kneez at Teckletown
Open Bitch (5,2)
1st Oddie – Ralines Lemon Drizzle for Riowood – CC & BoB
This girl oozes presence and quality. Nothing to fault in her head, neck clean and elegant, shoulders and rear angulation are spot on. Chest deep, ribbing carried well back with a wonderful and pleasing length of keel. Topline and underline textbook. Loin strong. H-L ratio is so pleasing. She has substance, elegance and ground clearance without being shallow or leggy. She is turned out to perfection, muscled and fit and effortless on the move. She has such an exciting future I believe and I was so pleased to award her the CC and BOB which I believe was her third so huge congratulations to her owners and breeders.
2nd Wood – Ch. Wildstar Wrivera
This girl is more the type I like and she was so unfortunate to meet 1st today. Her head is quality, eye shape and colour correct with darkest of pigment, ear shape and placement is super. Front and rear assembly is correct and well angulated. I would prefer a slightly better width to her second thigh but I am being really picky. Chest deep, ribs carried well back and length of keel is good. Topline and underline held on the move. She really is a showgirl but 1st just had the edge today. Very elegant and a pleasure to judge. Again presented to nothing less than perfect as always from this breeder.
3rd Metcalfe – Metadale Ariadne
