To judge your own breed at Crufts is different to any other appointment, filled with anticipation. The huge green carpeted rings must be the fairest arena in which to judge dogs allowing each exhibit to show off and those with that little bit extra time to shine and ‘max’ out. Thank you to my efficient Stewards for keeping the ring moving with laughter along the way.
Overall I think temperaments could improve but understandable with the strange times and socialisation non-existent.
It was a pleasure, to award the CC and BOB to CH Wildstar Wrobinson – a true miniature...having judged him previously giving him his title, he was pressed by his son Cliffmere woodman who took the RCC.
It is always lovely to see true emotion from exhibitors with Andrew Whitfield Roberts takin ghte CC with Dandydayo Kiss the Girl gaining her title and the RCC and BP going to Tara Siggee with her husband Mathew handling the Ensigynes girls. Finally the 2 beautiful veterans, with Best Veteran going to Ch Neertanauf Sea Magic JW ShCM owned and handled by Sharon Broad

I must mention the subject of scales, I realise weight is now just regarded as a fault, but for it to be assessed accurately the scales must be used especially at our Premier show. Having kept weights of every litter for over 50 yrs, we can see the miniature dachshunds are heavier now, be it from feeding or breeding. I feel the hollow bone which the mini longs had has all but gone. Being a realist, looking back, mini wires were 12 lb before being brought into line with the rest in the late 60’s, to me a 12lb mini dachshund can be a fit for function hound. But as we know without the scales the size WILL increase and who knows where it will end – will they still be miniature dachshunds?
