Firstly, my thanks to the friendly HAS Committee for their hospitality and opportunity to judge at their new showground in Errol. It was a shame that their move North resulted in a reduced entry because the show facilities (and food) were worth the trip. I last judged this variety in 2018 and, in the past, have been critical of the number of dogs with a lack of ground clearance and short, stuffy necks. I was pleasantly surprised to find the overall quality much improved. Most of the entry had a decent reach of neck and I felt the overall body:height proportions were much closer to the Breed Standard. This variety has also been criticised by other judges for having some dogs shown with inadequate body condition. I did not have any concerns about this, but I was surprised to find several dogs that could do with losing a bit of weight and being shown in leaner, fitter condition. Several exhibits would also benefit from ringcraft training as they blew their chances by not wanting to move in a way that I could assess them. Thanks also to the sporting exhibitors who generously applauded the winners.

1ST Hanishan Neapolitan Urishay (Mr P & Mrs A Latham-Jackson) Handsome and very promising 12 month red boy who has a strong head on good reach of neck which he carried proudly on the move. Good length of upper arm and tight-fitting elbows. Good ground clearance. Reasonable length of ribbing. Firm topline at all times. Moved parallel coming and going. Very pleased to award him the RDCC and I will watch his progress with interest.
2ND Hutaka Hot Shot (Mrs A K Beckett-Bradshaw) Slightly smaller, finer-boned type than 1. Would prefer a bit more length of upper arm. Good strong head with a dark eye. Prominent forechest. Moved slightly wide going away from me. Held a good topline on the move, in profile.
3RD Daniello Tiny Troublemaker (Mrs Me & Mr P Kasprowicz)

1ST Zarcrest See in Red (Miss Z C Boyle) Beautiful 15-month shaded cream presented to perfection with just the right amount of coat. Lovely head with a dark eye. He has a bit more crook than I prefer coming towards me. Absolutely parallel moving away from me. He holds a great topline in profile.
2ND Nazaretti Jason Joe at Daniello (Mrs Me & Mr P Kasprowicz) Chocolate Dapple and Tan who could do with losing a bit of weight as it made him look rather stocky. A little short in upper arm. Correct 2:1 proportions and adequate ground clearance. Well-angulated behind and moved true going away.

1ST Zarcrest Flash Harry at Breezelyn (Mrs J & Mrs A Pike & Carter) Silver Dapple and Tan with correct 2:1 proportions. Correctly shaped head with well set on ears and good reach of neck. Slightly out at elbow and down on his pasterns. Good length of ribbing. Reasonable amount of hind angulation and he moved parallel going away from me.
2ND Tolberg Black Adder at Indiko (Mrs K M Drady). Another dog with the correct proportions. Not the reach of neck of 1 and slightly more crook than I prefer. Good length of lower thigh. Free-flowing profile movement and held a good topline. Parallel moving away.

1ST Russteck Moonbeam (Mrs C Russell) Another smart black/tan dog with the correct proportions and appropriate ground clearance. Moved a little close coming towards me. Good amount of forechest and length of ribbing with a tidy underline. Well-angulated hindquarters and move perfectly parallel going way. Tight, bunchy hind feet.

1ST Zarcrest Flash Gordon at Gellijam (Mrs R A & Mr R Dunhill) A good, honest little Silver Dapple and Tan dog of correct proportions and with adequate ground clearance. Good amount of forechest and reach of neck. Moved true both coming and going and he holds a good topline in profile. I wish he would put a bit more enthusiasm into his performance because he is so well-made that I am sure he could do some significant winning. Pleased to award him the DCC which was his second in recent weeks. I believe he is a grandson of a dog that I previously awarded a CC. I will keep everything crossed that he gets his third.
2ND Abydachs Alpha Centauri (Miss E H Geeson) Still a puppy but holding his own in the Open Class. A slightly longer type than 1 and not so elegant in reach of neck. Good amount of forechest. Could do with losing a bit of weight. Correct parallel movement going away from me.

1ST Daniello Tiny Troublemaker (Mrs Me & Mr P Kasprowicz) Small red dog of 11 months; rather light in bone. Correct head proportions and dark eye. Would prefer more reach of neck. Loose in the elbow. Good topline.

1ST Mischa Peaches (Ms G Munn) 12-month Cream bitch of correct proportions and good size at this age. Good head shape with a dark eye. Could do with more length of upper arm and length of ribbing. Good reach of neck. Moved parallel going away. I hope this novice exhibitor enjoyed her first show. Best Special Beginner.
2ND Daniello Tic Tac Toffe (Mrs Me & Mr P Kasprowicz) Another smaller type who is a bit light in bone. Good shaped head and reach of neck. Rather slack in the topline compared with 1 and could do with more hind angulation. Impossible to assess on the move.

1ST Tolberg Cream Delight (Mrs L Bell) 2 year-old Cream bitch with good pigment and dark eye. Correct proportions and ground clearance. Lovely size and not over-coated. Good amount of forechest. Could do with a bit more reach of neck. Neat, tidy underline. Firm topline on the move, in profile.
2ND Urishay Pennyroyal (Mr P & Mrs A Latham-Jackson) Correct proportions but not as elegant as 1 and I would also prefer more reach of neck. Better in front construction than 3. Good parallel movement both coming and going. Firm topline in profile movement.
3RD Crownslake's Queen Bee (Miss Daisy Mason)

1ST Metadale Aphrodite (Mrs B Metcalfe) Quite a close decision between 1 and 2. 7-year-old shaded red who didn’t show her age at all. Lovely size. Correct proportions and good, overall balance with acceptable ground clearance. True movement coming towards me. Good amount of forechest. Well-angulated behind and moved parallel going away. Holds a good topline in profile movement. Bitch CC and BOB.
2ND Ch Abydachs Alchemy (Miss E H Geeson) Very attractive 2 year-old bitch of correct proportions with good length of ribbing. Slightly lost her topline in profile movement compared with 1. Preferred her front construction to 3. True movement going away. Reserve Bitch CC.
