Good Citizen Dog Scheme Bitch NO ENTRIES
My thanks to the society for their kind invitation to judge this breed and to the exhibitors for their lovely entry and great sporting response to my class decisions. Thanks also to my super-efficient stewards Paige & Robert.
I always judge the dogs as presented to me on the day, take care in my handling of every exhibit and give each and every exhibit the same consideration. I am a great advocate of showing dogs on a loose lead and I would like to see more exhibitors doing this.
An overview of this variety in my view: Overall construction is better in more depth than when I last judged them. I was pleased to see quite a lot of younger exhibits and puppies with good strong drive from behind which impressed. Coats are a bit too heavy in general, hindering the outlines of some nice exhibits. The standard calls for fringing not big thick heavy coats. Still a need for better shoulder placement and more reach of neck. Size of exhibits is now creeping over the 5kg standard maximum preference. Overall, I felt the variety had improved since my last appointment 3 years ago. There were a number of exhibits with bad kinks in their tails. Mouths and jaws were in general good and strong. I was delighted with the quality of my main winners.
Minor Puppy Dog (4,0)
1. Drady’s Indiko Fire & Ice – Cream of a lovely type, not overdone in any area, so super balanced at such a tender age. Great head and darkest of eye. Lovely pigmentation. Handled with confidence and showed well with a nice positive action in front and drive from behind. One I will watch as he matures & progresses BPD.
2. Cox’s Cheritondax Malbec – another lovely puppy, shaded red of a similar type and style to winner. Lovely head, eye shape & length of neck used to advantage. Moved soundly for and aft again with good reach and drive. Just needs to settle into his hindquarters but will do very well as he matures.
3. Gunter’s Sanmik Captain at Welingtonway.
Puppy Dog (5,1)
1. Fairchild’s Restinim Mr Pip – Black & Tan of a lovely size and happy outgoing temperament. Very well balanced and not overdone in any way. Sound correct overall construction holding a lovely outline both on the free stack and on the move.
2. McCarthy’s Nagshall Paolo Prince – Black & Cream of very good construction. Real masculine head, correct shoulder placement and tight in elbow. Lovely level topline and moved well. For me, just a bit too much of him.
3. Yates Irisdax Incognito Noisette
Junior Dog (5,1)
1. Dalton & Beach’s Ch. Zarcrest Red In The Room – beautifully presented and handled clear red of an acceptable size. Lovely balanced exhibit showing style and super ring presence. Good sound front girdle construction nice tight elbows and well-placed shoulders enhancing a lovely outline. A good masculine head with aa nicely shaped dark eye. Super topline at all times and moved with drive and purpose. He was in my consideration for the top awards in the final line up. Lovely exhibit.
2. May’s Scrumptious Red On The Dot – another high-quality red exhibit. Lovely type with sufficient ground clearance, correct coat enabling me to see his full outline on the move and on the stack. Great angulation in front and behind. Used his hind quarters well on the move, with a true straight action at all times. Lovely boy just unlucky to come up against such strong competition on the day. Will go on to do very well.
3. Restinim Mr Pip
Yearling Dog (3,0)
1. Latham-Jackson’s Revdvvicki’s Theodore by Urishay – up to size B/T of very sound construction. Good feet and tight elbows a little more lay of shoulder would improve but on balance a great outline and moved very well.
2. Bennett & Drake’s Xemxija Ice Onyx – B/Cream of a correct size, good front construction and a strong topline, not quite the hind quarter angulation of the winner and had the wind up his tail on the move today. Flying it a bit too high. Moved OK.
3. Morrin & Barbi’s Zilcon Vanilla Ice for Arlatdax
Post Graduate Dog (2,0)
1. Morrin & Barbi’s Code Red Again at Arlatdax – nice, shaded red of a correct size and not overdone in any way, having good overall balance and a strong outline. Decent front and shoulders, moved the better of the class on the day and well handled by his very young pilot, a really polite young gentleman who thanked me after his class win and shook my hand.
2. Yates & Pretty’s Hilmar Winston’s Winscar – Cream of good size, unfortunately was unsettled on the day which didn’t help his performance. I would like better pigmentation.
Limit Dog (7,0)
1. Stevens Dolyharp Amdeus at Sidburyhill – Black & Tan boy with a fabulous outline and a real masculine stamp about him. Super conical head, lovely dark oval eye and well-set ears. Carried on a super muscled lengthy neck. Strong prosternum and nice tight feet and elbows. My hands flowed effortlessly over this dog on examination. Up to size but not overdone in any way. Lovely long ribbing, good depth of keel, short loin and well angulated hindquarters which he used to power around the ring. Loved the way he stood four square, on a loose lead holding a stunning outline and best of toplines. It is said every dog has his day – this was his for sure. Carried on in style in the challenge to top a line up of super exhibits. Thrilled to award him the Dog CC, his 2nd I was to learn. I congratulate his breeder and his owners and hope his title is not too far away.
2. McCarthy’s Nagshall Dyce The Ice – good quality, cream dog of a lower to ground type but well put together. Lovely dark pigmentation, good eye shape, conical head. Good shoulders flowing into a level topline. Good ribbing and well angulated hindquarters. On the day couldn’t match the showing style & carriage of the winner but a lovely exhibit, nonetheless.
3. Weston & Johnson’s Dolyharp Don Ottavio with Ecotyne
Open Dog (5,0)
1. Mitchell’s Ch. Bronia Maverick – Cream of a super size and conformation. Correct front and strong prosternum into a good underline. Correct in shoulder and tight in elbow. Excellent pigmentation, nice head, decent eye. Excelled in movement showing a clear set of pads driving away from me and decent reach in front. A very balanced dog of top quality – on the day preferred the reach of neck and outline on the move of the winner. Res CC
2. Phillips Ch. Summerview Hello Hugo – super black and tan who I have judged as a puppy and predicted a glowing future for him then and delighted to see he has fulfilled his early promise. Another beautifully constructed masculine hound, lovely head and eye, good reach of neck, correct in front and great shoulders. Good length of ribbing, short loin and well angulated hindquarters. Was a close call between these two and I was splitting hairs to make the decision. Top quality champion.
3. McCarthy’s Nagshall Dutch Odyssey
Veteran Dog (3,0)
1. Woodvine-Shone’s Ch/Ir Ch. Ralines Sazerac – Lovely red of 7 years and what a super type and lovely conformation. Up to size, yes, but super sound all through lovely front, tight in elbow, great depth of keel with sufficient ground clearance. Lovely flowing neck into topline and underline. Very unlucky to meet up with such a super veteran bitch in the challenge. Top quality male.
2. Weston & Johnson’s Ch. Ecotyne Devil’s Advocate – top drawer 7 year old black & tan of excellent overall construction. Correctly constructed throughout, lovely prosternum and nice tight feet & elbows. On the day was not holding his topline as well as winner so took 2nd but a super dog.

Super class of quality youngsters
1. Woodvine-Shone’s Hanishan Solar Express – Beautifully presented shaded red of 7 months. Caught my eye as soon as she entered the ring holding a super outline as she made her first circuit around the ring. On closer inspection a beautifully constructed puppy with super flowing hound lines, fabulous front and shoulder placement, great bone and substance, lovely feminine head and soft expression. Nice strong jawline. Moved out with strength and purpose. In the challenge despite a strong line up in the older classes I couldn’t keep my eyes off her. One for the top drawer I predict – delighted to award Res CC, BPB & Best Puppy in Breed.
2. Webster’s Indiko Eternal Flame – lovely B/Cream another out of the top drawer and has all the qualities and potential as this young age of being a top winner. Super overall construction again with nothing overdone. Greta angulation in front and in hindquarters. Moved with purpose and drive just pipped by winner on her eye catching flowing lines carried on the move. Another one to watch as she matures. Lovely exhibit.
3. Whitfield-Roberts Ralines Strike A Pose Dandydayo
Puppy Bitch (9,1)
Another super class of youngsters
1. Cox’s Dolyharp Grace Kelly at Cheritondax – beautifully presented shaded cream with a real showgirl attitude. Great front and prosternum, nice tight elbows, good shoulder placement and a nice neck flowing into a level topline. Great hindquarters used with purpose showing excellent drive from behind, Loved her – another whose progress I will watch with great interest.
2. McCarthy’s Nagshall Gosh How Posh – super red of elegant type and correct size. Sufficient ground clearance held a beautiful outline as did all the top placed minor and puppy class exhibits.
3. Phillips Summerview Midnight Sky
Junior Bitch (7,2)
1. McCarthy’s Nagshall Love at Risk – Cream of a lovely type from this experienced breeder. Super pigmentation and a very honest sound girl, nothing exaggerated with lovely flowing lines from her good reach of neck though well laid-back shoulders correct level topline into well angulated hindquarters. Moved out holding a great shape top & underline.
2. Mason’s Crownlakes Million Dollars – Black & Tan of a similar type to winner and having the same qualities. Expertly handled, I just preferred winners topline on the move on the day.
3. Pretty’s Jaxrubydax Constellation
Yearling Bitch (5,1)
1. Mason’s Crownlakes Million Dreams – another super exhibit from this kennels, presented and handled to make the most of her lovely construction. Gave the handler a bit of aa tough time but another of super sound type and overall construction with good balance which was clear to see as she moved gracefully around the ring. Super outline on the move and very feminine, another that will no doubt gain top honors – still only 14 months.
2. McCarthy’s Nagshall Love At Risk
3. Blachowicz Evison Hells Belle
Post Graduate Bitch (4.0)
1. Taverner’s Brackenfire My Honey Bee at Tavertekal – Elegant, sound and very honest Black & Tan that really stood out in this class. Correct front girdle construction, tight elbows and a nice reach of neck used to advantage on the move. Good strong parallel movement behind from well constructed hindquarters. This girl really came in to her own on the move on the day showing great reach and drive from behind.
2. Rees Yumares Zenas Magic – Cream brindle of stylish lines, sound construction all through just not the movement of the winner on the day.
3. Latham-Jackson’s Urishay Nell Gwyn.
Limit Bitch (6,1)
1. Graham’s Ralines Coalition with Jadag – Black & Cream, a top quality type. Correct front nice head and eye, decent neck, correctly constructed shoulders/upper arm good depth of keel and nice flowing underline and topline. Moved well with good reach and reasonable drive holding a lovely outline at all times.
2. Siggee’s Ensigynese Glaciarium – lovely shaded cream of elegance and style. Correct overall construction with no exaggerations. Well angulated front and rear. Held a good topline at all times.
3. McCarthy’s Nagshall The Odd Excuse
Open Bitch (9,1)
A lovely class full of quality
1. Woodvine-Shone’s Hanishan Shot In The Dark – Super stylish black & tan built on classic standard in miniature lines. One of my top 3 girls on the day. Held a fabulous outline at all times. Excelled in front construction and movement, showing clear drive from behind. At one with her handler and a well-deserved winner of this very strong class. Pressed very hard in the challenge for top honors but on the day just loved the puppy from this kennel.
2. Dare’s Ch.Darsoms Zynala – another beautiful B/T presented immaculately and showed extremely well. Good conical head and dark almond eye, good shoulder placement and lovely topline. Moved with purpose and drive. Just preferred the type of the winner on the day.
3. Drady’s Tolberg Cream Surprise at Indiko.
Veteran Bitch (1,0)
The last class of the day and provided my star of the day.
1. Mason’s Tolberg Beez Kneez at Teckeltown – now 8 years young and looking every inch the champion she so deserves to be. One of few exhibits I judged last time, on that occasion winning the Res CC and only beaten by the eventual BOB and Hound Group 1 winner.
Today she sparkled, a superbly presented, correct sized, feminine and elegant beauty, who once again took my eye. This girl has excellent conformation all round, nothing is overdone and she has bone and substance whilst remaining well withing the 5kg ideal maximum size. Her outline when staked is so elegant and flows from nose to tail and on the move glides effortlessly around the ring with reach and drive on a loose lead. I think she is stunning. This time it was CC & BOB.
Judge: Lloyd Cross (Loggeta/Africandawns).
