I sincerely thank the Royal Kennel Club for this invitation to judge M/L Dachshunds this being my first time to officiate at the greatest Dog show on the planet. You really do get a feeling like no other. My entry was the second highest of all the varieties. I applaud the support from all of the exhibitors from the UK and especially those who had travelled from France, Italy, Netherlands, Germany, Bulgaria, Argentina and Japan! I would like to thank my most capable stewards Mrs Merriel Haselden and Mr JP-Brown for keeping everything in order which enabled me to complete both breeds in good time. I first awarded CC’s to this variety in 1993 and have mostly enjoyed the experience. However, in his entry today I found too many untypical heads. A conical shape is the requirement not round wide skulls with snippy fore faces These types of heads also come with large round eyes. Another concern for me was poor rear movement; mostly a lack of parallel rear drive and lack of forward reach. However, on the whole most exhibits were well presented and I was pleased with all my class winners and some decisions were close! VD 5 (2) 1st Irvine, Bronia the Dutchman. Smart individual of good overall merit. Correct conical shaped head with excellent dentition. Clear in eye, plenty in neck with good fill in forechest. Ribbing is extended well back with level topline. He is well angulated in his rear whilst standing on good bone with ok feet. Put his best foot forward on the move displaying good reach and drive whilst holding a pleasing profile on the go around and was well presented. Ran the Veteran Bitch all the way! 2 MacLaine, Pennygown Pilot. OK all through for overall breed type. Head qualities display good balance. Clear in eye. Neck flows into a clean front assembly. Sufficient in rib. Bone and feet correct. Moved out ok on the out and back. 3 Klug Daks-Veg-As Roberto Mateos. MPD (3) 1 Latham-Jackson, Revdvicki’s Theodore by Urishay. Smart individual of merit. Correct conical shaped head with strength in foreface with excellent dentition. Clear in eye which gives off a pleasing expression. His neck flows into a well laid shoulder. He is well ribbed which is carried well back to a firm loin. His bone has quality with correct feet On the move he was positive whilst holding his profile on the move. This young exhibit has a bright future. Today Best Puppy Dog. 2 May, Scrumptious Red on the Dot. He is a quality exhibit to go over. Correct in head which displays a conical shape with a dark expressive eye. Neck flows into an ok shoulder. Ribbing is extended well back with a solid topline. Another that moved out with style, just went with the winners substance, but I am sure this exhibit will continue to catch the eye. 3 Yates, Irisdax Incognito Noisette. PD (8) 1 Latham-Jackson, Revdvicki’s Theodore by Urishay. 2 May, Scrumptious Red on the Dot. 3 Thomson, Rivandell Sirius Black. JD 5 (1) 1 Dalton, Beach, Zarcrest Red in the Room JW. An Impressive individual of above average merit. Classic in head of the correct conical shape which displays good balance with a super dark expressive eye. Good length in neck which flows into a clean front assembly with good fill in forechest. Ribbing is extended well back to a firm loin. He is well angulated in his rear and stands on quality bone with neat compact feet. On the move he displays an easy reach and drive whilst holding an eye watching profile on the go around. As usual presentation was one hundred percent and handled well to gain maximum output putting all in the challenge. Today the RCC to his grandfather only on maturity. His day will come I’m sure. Congratulations. 2 Morrin, Barbi, Zilcan Vanilla Ice for Arlatdax. OK all through for overall breed type. Typical in head, eye and expression. Plenty in neck. Ribbing is extended well back. Topline is solid. Bone and feet ok. Presented in good order and moved out well both ways. 3 Kasprowicz, Wishadax’s Blonde Showman Danielo. OK all through in most departments. Head, eye and expression all ok. On the stack he displays a good outline, but for me he was well up to size. On the out and back he was accurate but on the go around he tended to roach his back. YD (6) 1 Waker, Wiltshire, Littlelibbs Newton Ellis. Pleasing exhibit to go over with plenty to admire all through. Head is of the correct conical shape with a dark expressive eye with good dentition. Plenty in neck with good fill in forechest. Ribbing is extended well back with solid topline. His rear angles are ok and he stands on good bone with compact feet. Moved out well on the out and back to warrant winning this class and was presented in good order. 2 Stevens, Dolyharp Amadeus at Sidburyhill. Another exhibit with plenty to admire all through. Pleasing in head which displays the correct conical shape with a dark expressive eye with good dentition. Plenty in neck. Ribbing is extended well back with a level topline. He stands on correct bone with neat feet. Another that displayed a good attitude on the move. Close up to the winner. Will change places on another day! 3 Causier, Captain Caos. OK all through for overall breed type. Head, eye and expression all good. Plenty in neck ribbing is ok with a solid topline. Bone and feet adequate. Moved out ok once settled. PGD (10) 1 Walker, Wiltshire, Littlelibbs newton Ellis - winner of Yearling. 2 Casuier, Captain Caos - third in Yearling 3 Weston, Johnson, Dolyharp Don Ottavio with Ecotyne. A well grown individual of ample proportions but he scores in head, eye and expression. Plenty in rib, solid in topline and stands on good bone and feet. Moved out ok. LD (11) 1 Poole, Findowrie the Fusileer. Plenty to admire about this one all through. Correct conical head with a clear eye which gives off a pleasing expression. Plenty in neck with good front assembly. Ribbing is extended well back to a firm loin. He stands on quality bone with neat feet. On the stack he is most appealing and on the move he displayed an easy free flowing stride holding his topline at all times. Presentation was excellent. He will have his day I’m sure! 2 McCarthy, Nagshall Dyce the Ice JW. yet another quality exhibit all through. Correct proportions in head with a dark expressive eye. Plenty in neck with a clean front assembly. Toline is level. Would prefer a shorter loin, however, he stands on quality bone with neat compact feet, and he moved out soundly on the out and back. I’m sure will continue to do well. 3 Grose, Belvydach Proper Job. Head, eye and expression all correct. Neck flows into a clean front assembly. Plenty in ribbing. Topline is solid. Bone and feet ok. Again another that was sound on the out and back and was well presented. OD (14) What a class. Many reputations put on the line and I’m sure there may have been some disappointments. Another day, another judge, opinions may differ! 1 McDonnell, Ch/Ir Ch Int Ch Zarcrest See in Red at Smartdac. Where do I start. Well let’s go back to the Hound Association Championship Show when I awarded this exhibit Best Puppy in Show. I then predicted a bright future for him, so today he returns as a multi titled champion. Pleased to see that my prediction panned out! In this class of many “Champions” for me he simply stood away screaming excellent breed type. On inspection he has a head to die for which is of the correct conical shape. Just the right amount of width in skull with strength in foreface with a good underjaw with correct dentition. He has a super dark eye which gives off an appealing expression all finished off with well placed ears. He has good length in his neck which flows into a clean front assembly with good fill in forechest. His elbows are closely fitted to his rib cage which is extended well back to a firm loin. His rear is well angulated which leads to strong parallel hocks. On the move he displayed such attitude with accurate footfalls on the out and back combining parallel rear drive with good forward reach whilst holding a rock solid topline at all times. Presentation was one hundred percent and handled sympathetically to gain maximum output. In the line up he still stood away and fended off a strong challenge from the other class winners. So pleased to award him the CC and later on BoB. Congratulations. In the Group I was pleased to witness him still giving his handler total commitment. He did your variety proud! 2 Nishiura Jp Ch, Babe JP Burning Up. This exhibit also caught my eye when entering the ring. So full of quality all through. Correct conical head with strength in foreface. Excellent dark eye. Plenty neck with a clean front assembly with good fill in forechest. Excellent in ribbing with a solid topline and firm loin which leads to a well angulated rear. He stands on quality bone with correct feet. This was another exhibit that could really move displaying excellent reach and drive. He was presented in stunning order and well handled. A quality dog for sure! 3 Wallace, Ch Ralines Just Jiles. Full of good breed type. Head, eye and expression all correct. Neck and front assembly good with good fill in forechest. Ribbing is extended well back to firm loin he stands on correct bone with neat feet Another that covered the ground with ease. Completing a trio of quality males. Good Citizen Dog Scheme (2) 1 Morrin, Barbi, Zilcan Vanilla Ice for Arlatax - see Junior Dog 2 Crow, Drymoor Friars Luxury Among Martinks. A well grown individual of ample proportions. For me he does not depict the meaning of “miniature” but head is ok with good feet. Needs to come together on the move. VB (4) 1 Mason, Ch Tolberg Beez Kneez at Teckeltown. Won this class with a bit in hand. Feminine in head which displays the correct conical shape with a dark expressive eye with correct dentition. Her neck flows into a clean front assembly with good fill in forechest. She is well ribbed with a solid topline which leads to a well angulated rear. It’s on the move that she comes to life displaying a free flowing stride whilst holding a pleasing profile on the go around. She was presented in excellent order. Pleased to award her Best Veteran in Breed. Congratulations. 2 Westaway, Abbillis Jive Talking at Treranch. Head is ok but scores in front assembly. Plenty in ribbing and stands on good bone with neat feet. Moved out ok and was well presented. 3 Sainsbury, Ridgegrove Constance at Boscolla. OK all through but was carrying too much weight which spoilt her outline. PB (9) 1 Lockett-Walters, Ralines Just Jasmine. Smart individual of above average merit. She stood away in this large class. On inspection she is feminine in head which is of the correct conical shape with a dark expressive eye with good dentition. Good reach in her neck which flows into a clean front assembly. She is well ribbed which is carried well back to a firm loin. Her rear is well angulated finished off with short parallel hocks. She stands on quality bone with neat compact feet. On the move she displayed a free flowing stride whilst holding her profile at all times and she was presented in stunning order. All in all I felt she coped well with the atmosphere whilst fending off the final run off against the Puppy Dog to claim Best Puppy in Breed. Another from this kennel that should go on to higher plains! 2 Holtom, Rivandell Nymphadora. Plenty to admire about this one. Head, eye and expression all good. Neck flows into a clean front assembly with plenty in ribbing. Bone and feet good. Moved out technically ok and held a good profile on the go around. Should continue to catch the eye! 3 McCarthy, Nagshall Love at Risk. OK all through for type with correct size but needs to come together on the move. Hopefully in time this will come. JB (16) What a class numbers wise! 1 Poole, Findowrie Finesse. A well grown individual who is forward in overall development. On inspection I personally would prefer a more refined skull and that is only my opinion. Having said that, everything else fits. Plenty in neck with good fill in forechest. Ribbing is extended well back. Topline is level which leads to a well angulated rear. She stands on quality bone with neat compact feet. She put her best foot forward on the move displaying good reach and drive whilst holding a pleasing profile on the go around. I understand a recently crowned “Ch” so congratulations on that. 2nd Aneke, Dachadam Hopes and Dreams. Has plenty to admire all through. Head, eye and expression all good. Plenty in neck with ribbing extended well back. Firm in topline with a well angulated rear. Bone and feet correct. Just wished she had put more in on the move which would have been to her benefit! 3 Stevens, Kazamours Evening in Paris. OK for overall breed type. Feminine in head with good eye and expression. Correct in ribbing with solid topline with a well angulated rear. Stood on correct bone and feet. Moved out ok. YB (16) 1 Arbol, Malibu Lothorien. Such an eye catcher is this one with instant ring appeal. On inspection she is correct in head with the desired conical shape with a good dark eye and correct dentition. She excels in neck and forechest with a clean front assembly with elbows kept well in. Her ribbing is extended well back to a firm loin with a solid topline which leads to a well angulated rear. She stands on quality bone with good feet. On the stack she was most appealing, however, initially at first she was moved too quickly for her own good, but a word with the handler put this right immediately. Then at a more sensible pace she was allowed to display an easy reach and drive whilst holding an eye catching profile. In the line up she still continued to draw my attention so I was pleased to award her the RCC in hot company. Congratulations. 2 Wootten, Lulu’s Moment (Ir Jnr Ch). Interesting individual of merit. Feminine head with correct proportions. Clear in eye with correct dentition. Plenty in neck with ribbing extended well back to a firm loin. Topline is solid which leads to a firm loin. She stands on quality bone with neat feet. Yet another that was displaying a free flowing stride whilst holding a pleasing profile on the go around and was presented in excellent order. Close up to the winner indeed! 3rd Walter, Ralines Proud mary. Lots to admire about this one who is typical of this kennel. Quality in head, eye and expression. Body proportions display good balance. Ribbing is extended well back. Bone and feet good. Moved out well on the out and back and was well presented. Will continue to catch the eye. Today completing a trio of quality exhibits. PGB (17) 1 Holtom, Rivandell Osha. Had enough to admire all through to claim this class. Quality in head which displays correct proportions with a clear expressive eye. Plenty in neck which flowed into a clean front assembly. Her topline is level which leads to a well angulated rear. She stands on good bone but would benefit for a tighter foot. However, this did not prevent her from moving out with good rear drive and forward extension whilst holding a pleasing profile on the go around and was well presented. 2 Norris, Criscan Que Paso. Another with plenty to admire all through. Feminine in head with a dark expressive eye. Plenty in neck with good fill in forechest. Ribbing is extended well back with solid topline which leads to a well angulated rear. Moved out ok on the out and back. 3 McCarthy, Nagshall the Odd Excuse JW. Fair all through for overall breed type. Head, eye and expression all good. Would, however, prefer a better lay back in shoulder but she is well ribbed and stands on good bone with neat compact feet. Moved out well on the out and back. LB (8) 1 Woodville-Shone, Hanishan Shot in the Dark. Has plenty to admire all through about this one. Quality in head which is feminine and of the correct conical shape with a dark expressive eye. Plenty in neck with good fill in forechest. Her ribbing is extended well back to a firm loin. She stands on quality bone with neat compact feet. On the out and back she displayed parallel rear drive with good depth up front whilst holding a pleasing profile on the go around and was presented in good order. 2 McSorley, Barlane Golden Honey. Enough to admire about this one to warrant this place. Head, eye and expression are all good. Plenty in neck with good fill in forechest. Ribbing is extended wll back to a firm loin. She stands on good bone with compact feet. Moved well both ways and was close up to the winner. 3 Magee, Mournerose Try me for Size completing a trio of quality exhibits. OB (14) Sadly one exhibit had to withdraw due to a rear end issue. Hope she has recovered! Open bitch always seems to be the hot bed class and today this was no exception. So many reputations were put on the line here. Placings will change for sure on another day! 1 Walters, Ch Ralines First Past the Post. Very aptly named. She oozes quality all through. Feminine in head with correct proportions with correct dentition. She is clear in eye which gives off such an appealing expression. Her neck flows into a clean front assembly with a well filled forechest. Her ribbing is extended well back to a firm loin which leads to a well angulated rear with short parallel hocks. She was accurate on the out and back whilst holding a pleasing profile on the go around. Presentation was excellent and was handled sympathetically to gain maximum output. Delighted to award er the CC today and I’m sure will continue to collect more. Congratulations! 2 Goddard, Ch Minard Darque Angel. Has so much of the winners qualities throughout. Head, eye and expression all good plenty in neck with a well filled forechest. Her neck flows into a clean front assembly. Ribbing is extended well back to a firm loin which leads to a well angulated rear. She stands on quality bone with neat feet. Put her best foot forward on the out and back whilst holding a pleasing profile on the go around and was presented and handled well. 3 Carey, Honeysuckle Scent to Me Via Debbejay JW. Completing a trio of quality exhibits. Good Citizen B (3) 1 Holtom, Rivandell Osha - see Postgraduate 2 Judge, Erinshore lady Grace. Raw puppy but is ok all through just needs more time to come together. 3 May, Custard and Jelly. Unplaced in Postgraduate but an unusual name!
