Miniature Long Haired Dachshund

It was a privilege to be invited to judge my own variety of Dachshund, and I would like to thank the officers and committee of Three Counties Championship Show. My thanks also to Maureen and John Betts my stewards for keeping my judging to a timely pace, and for all the exhibitors for taking time out of their week to enter, and applauding the winners. I was very pleased with my main winners but disappointed that not enough attention is being paid to front construction which goes hand in hand with a lot of short necks. I also had a number of dogs who were very nervy on the table and moving around the ring. That having been said, there are some super youngsters coming along.

1ST      1783 - Indiko Fire and Ice (Mrs K M Drady) To start my judging with a large class of lovely puppies was a joy and this youngster turned out to be a real find! Correctly proportioned with good bone, he has a masculine head, balanced with good pigment and correctly shaped dark eye. Shoulder placement  excellent and an equally good return of upper arm. Already a good length of ribbing and short loin. Rear angulation excellent. Maintained his topline on the move. At only 6 months he moved out with confidence and balance from good forward extension and rear drive. Coat coming along nicely. Well-presented and shown. Delighted to award the DCC & BPIB.

2ND      1804 - Nagshall Paolo Prince (Mrs C Mccarthy). Another lovely exhibit, with substance. Different type to my 1st and just preferred the head of my 1st. At 9 months he has a masculine head and good length of neck into nicely placed shoulders and return of upper arm. Good length of ribbing, slightly longer in the body than 1st. Rear angulation correspondingly good. Profuse black and tan coat. Moved well. Called back in for the challenge as he is very promising.

1ST      1804 - Nagshall Paolo Prince (Mrs C Mccarthy)

2ND      1782 - Zarcrest Red in The Room JW (Miss O & Mr L Dalton & Beach) I have admired this youngster from the ringside but he didn’t seem to be on top form today. At 16 months he is nicely presented and handled. Masculine head into a good front construction, pro-sternum and length of ribbing. Short, quite broad loin. Slightly out of coat. He moved, but not so balanced today.

3RD      1799 - Kyalozys My Time to Shine (Mr L Lawrence)

1ST      1819 - Dwtidachs Great Days (Mr J & Mrs E Roberts) Lovely head, dark eye and pigment on this 2 year old cream. Nicely put together with good length of neck into sound angulation to front and rear, good length to ribbing and keel. Handling needs to improve. He won the class on his construction and the occasionally seen, lovely free movement.

2ND      1811 - Zilcan Vanilla Ice for Arlatdax (Miss C & Miss C Morrin & Barbi) Nicely presented and handled. Not such a balanced head as my 1st. Slightly upright in front conformation leading to less forward extension than I would like. Rear angulation good. Movement not as balanced as my 1st.

1ST      1821 - Minard Darque Red for Devondax JW (Miss K Small) Another exhibit I have admired from the ringside. Shown in lovely condition and super shaded red coat. This 2year old has a masculine correctly balanced head and dark eye. Enough length of neck into well placed shoulders and a good return of upper arm. Correct pro-sternum, Deep ribbing, good keel and short loin. Rear angulation good. Maintained his topline on the move. Moved out with drive and enthusiasm. Pleased to award RDCC.

2ND      1801 - Nagshall Dyce The Ice JW (Mrs C Mccarthy). This cream 3 year old could have slightly better pigment. Good length of neck and soundly constructed with good front and rear quarters but just plodded around today.

3RD      1771 - Bronia Wolfgang Puck (Mrs S A Broad)

1ST      1800 - Nagshall Dutch Odyssey (Mrs C Mccarthy). A lot to like about this red 6 year old. Correct head and eye. Like a lot of the dogs from this kennel, soundly put together with correct angulation to front and rear, good length to the ribbing and keel and short loin. Moved out with balance and grace. Nothing overdone but when it came to the challenge, unfortunately he really couldn’t be bothered.

2ND      1823 - Ch Ralines Just Jiles (Mrs A Wallace). Nicely put together red 4 year old. Balanced head and reasonable length of neck. I just preferred the head and front construction of my 1st. Good length of ribbing and keel. Moved out with drive. Initially moved out well but tired at the end of the class.

1ST      1772 - Eldmour Sea Lord of Dinkidudlor (Mrs S A Broad). At nearly 10 years, this red boy was showing his age today. Nicely put together with good rear construction. Maintained his topline on the move. Slightly down on his front pasterns. Pleased to award BVIB.

1ST      1807 - Barlaine Midsummer Magic (Miss P Mcsorley). Another super puppy class with some quality stock. I was particularly taken with this lovely 11 month black and cream. She has a correct feminine head and dark eye into a lovely length of neck and well laid shoulder and good length to return of upper arm. Correct prosternum, good depth and length of ribbing and short loin. Rear construction matched front which lead to a nicely balanced movement with extension and drive. Pleased to award RCC.

2ND      1815 - Sanmik Last Girl (Ms S Palin). Another quality exhibit, and it was a close call. More compact red of only 6 months. Correct proportions. Good balanced head with enough neck and nicely angled front quarters. Rear angulation also coming on well, which lead to balanced movement with extension and drive. Just needs to settle.

3RD      1826 - Indiko Eternal Flame (Mr S Webster)

Junior Bitch

1ST      1802 - Nagshall Gosh How Posh (Mrs C Mccarthy) Shaded cream 9 month puppy who came 4th in PB but was up against some tough competition. However, she was the best constructed in this junior class. Good pigment. Correct head and eye into a fair length of neck and sound front and rear construction. Moved but really could have put in more effort to show herself.

2ND      1792 - Ciselsig Hey There Delilah (Miss B A Ham). At 17 months she is maturing nicely. I just preferred the head and front construction of my 1st. Would prefer slightly better placed shoulders but she has a good spring and length of ribbing, short loin and good rear quarters and moves out with drive. Well presented.

3RD      1822 - Westwillow Sweet Pea (Miss G Tubb)

1ST      1812 - Criscan Que Paso (Mr D W Norris). At nearly 2 years this red has developed well. Soundly constructed throughout. Balanced head with enough neck. Well angled shoulders with length to upper arm, good length to ribbing and short loin. Balanced movement from correct rear angulation but today she just did enough to win the class.

2ND      1825 - Ralines Ways and Means JW (Mrs S Way). Lovely cream with good bone and substance. Good pigment. Just preferred the head and longer neck of my 1st. Moved out with a balanced movement from her sound front and rear construction but another who could have shown more enthusiasm for the ring.

3RD      1792 - Ciselsig Hey There Delilah (Miss B A Ham)

1ST      1793 - Ravensbeech Florentine Whiteorchard JW (Miss W Heather). At 19 months this silver dapple and tan showed herself well. Excellent front construction, and correspondingly good rear. Good length to ribbing. Moved with forward extension and rear drive.

2ND      1776 - Devoncream Mystique Jewel (Mrs L M Brown). Cream 2 year old with a lovely balanced head and dark eye, Construction sound, good length and spring to ribbing and long keel. Did just enough and no more.

3RD      1824 - Ralines Tina Peaches (Mrs A Wallace)

1ST      1805 - Nagshall The Odd Excuse JW (Mrs C Mccarthy). Shaded cream 2 year old who has a correct head and eye. Lovely front angulation, nice length to ribbing and rear angulation matching front. Moved with balance and grace. Pigment good. Last time I judged her she was beaten by my 2nd placed today.

2ND      1775 - Devoncream Ice Mimosa (Mrs L M Brown). Not at her best today. This 4 year old cream is also well constructed. I have judged her before and seen her move better than today. She has a correct head and dark eye. Lovely front construction, good length of ribbing and excellent rear quarters.

3RD      1806 - Barlaine Golden Honey (Miss P Mcsorley)

1ST      1777 - Honeysuckle Scent to Me via Debbiejay JW (Miss D Carey). Shaded cream 4 year old that I have admired from the ringside for her easy flowing movement. Correct head and dark eye, good length of neck into correct shoulders with reasonable return of upper arm, good length to keel and ribbing. Good angulation at the rear meant that she drove out well from behind with forward extension. Lovely profile movement.  Pleased to award the BCC and see her shortlisted in the group.

2ND      1794 - Tolberg Here's to The Future with Ravensbeech JW (Miss W Heather). Unfortunately handled by someone else for this class which was a shame. At 2 years she is nicely put together. Good head and eye and excellent length of neck into good front construction. Sound rear quarters and can move out when tries.
