Many memories of attending WEDA championship shows over the years including the clubs very first one. Who can forget the mammoth weekend years ago with The Scottish Dachshund Club in Dumfries on the Saturday, then all of us racing down to WEDA the following day with both clubs receiving amazing entries?. I was delighted to be asked to judge Min Longs here, a club that feels like family & still has the unique West Country atmosphere. Secretary Juliet Cooper & her dedicated hard working committee had everything running like clockwork, with a good finishing time which I’m sure was appreciated by everyone. Thank you for a wonderful entry & one that had real quality especially in the bitches. Some exciting youngsters coming through the classes & indeed several that I would dearly love to own. I really love this variety having owned & made up champions in Min Longs & indeed the very first set of CC’s I awarded was in Min Longs at South Wales in 1997. My last appointment was at Crufts where I judged without scales. Today we do not weigh at all, I’m not getting into any weighing debate but please try to keep this delightful variety “Miniature’. Although no huge ones here, I can see size creeping up which will be so sad. I clearly remember breeding the most beautiful shaded red male Swansford Red Rum who had a fabulous puppy career but ended up 11.5lbs & in those days an ounce over 11lb & you where out. How I wish I had him now, but lets not turn Miniature’s into Midi’s!. Presentation was so good throughout & even teeth so clean which I know only too well can be a problem to keep on top of. No questionable bites & no kinky tails here either, my report reflects time in motion, it was what I witnessed at that precise moment hence my notes on each individual dog. A relaxed day’s judging, lovely atmosphere & applause then finishing with some top class examples of Min Longs that filled my eye & thrilled me. Thank you all for a most enjoyable day in The West Country
Minor Puppy Dog (1)
1st: MCCARTHY Nagshall Paolo Prince, 7 month B/T with the most stunning head &
expression, dark almond shaped eyes & correct ratio’s from muzzle to skull.
Enough neck leading into very good shoulders, prominent breast bone, plenty of
width & depth through the front which secured him BPD. Ribbing is long,
extending well back, shade long in loin but still has plenty of time to fill it,
well made quarters with enough angulation. Quite sound coming & going, his
profile action was impressive once he got in his stride, clearly showing reach &
follow through from behind. Handled & presented to perfection & in such fabulous
coat for his age
Puppy Dog (5,1)
1st: MAY Scrumptious Red on the Dot, 9 month red whose type I loved, masculine
head with the darkest of points without any sign of coarseness, long well arched
neck which he uses well on the move, prominent forechest although for me he
needs more width & this shows more on the move. Super body & ribbing, well
sprung for age & extends well back, correct height to length ratios, strong well
filled loins, quarters are strong with neat short hocks, tail correctly set &
carried at all times. Moving away he is bang on & has plenty of driving action,
retains all that is good about him in profile, a real showman too!
2nd: BATER All for Show, 11 month red, another lovely type with jet black points throughout. Good head & expression, good strong jaws & teeth for his age, plenty of neck, share’s the same front construction of 1, just needing a shade more width, very good ribbing with a good firm backline, short loins leading into very well made quarters, plenty of length to second thigh too. Another who powers out with hind drive, moves out well in profile with a natural head carriage which is lovely to see, great coat & rock hard condition

1st: DALTON & BEACH Zarcrest Red in the Room JW, 15 month clear red, judged this
youngster last September & the difference in 7 months is really quite
remarkable. He has dropped into his front, tightened his elbows up, sprung his
ribbing & developed muscles!. Boom, add showmanship, presentation to perfection
& you have all the ingredients of a CC winner, which he actually went onto be
awarded. Good head & expression with no sign of being coarse, strong jaws &
teeth, long well arched neck which he uses on the move to project himself so
well, well laid shoulders, tight elbows, very good legs & feet, very good
forehand with keel extending well back under his front legs, ribbing is long,
well covered & sprung. Cast iron topline & correct underline with the right
amount of ground clearance for me. Strong well made hammy quarters on strong
parallel hocks. Tail is a clear continuation of his spine & carries it correctly
at all times. Ultra sound coming & going, shows clear reach in front & drive
from behind whist retaining a perfect outline. He is young, fresh & has a fun
filled summer ahead of him, my pleasure with no hesitation to award him his
first CC
2nd:PAVLATOVA Dante Delart Dach Musketier's, For me this 9 month B/T boy was taller than I prefer but he was in proportion & because of the extra length of leg he could certainly cover some ground. He does have an air of quality about him & I absolutely loved his head piece, long well defined neck & carriage, a shade taller did mean not the layback in shoulder or length of second thigh in the quarters, however he had tight elbows & super bone & feet, ribbing extends well back & loins are short & strong. Quite precise coming towards me but not so today going away. A real showman who did everything with little effort, I found him quite intriguing & will look out for him in the future as although not my ideal, his positives could prove useful to some

1st: MAY Hanishan Firery Fox, Attractive 20 month red, put down to perfection &
a real showman. Good head & expression with the darkest of almond shaped eyes,
well arched neck leading into good shoulders, tight elbows, would prefer better
feet being a touch flat on his pasterns. Enough forechest & width throughout,
very good body & ribbing with cast iron topline. Well made quarters that are
strong with plenty of length of second thigh on neat short hocks. Ultra sound
coming towards me & sound enough going away. Carries himself well in profile
with his proud head carriage, coat just right & gleaming

1st: GROSE Belvydach Proper Job, headed a mixed class of various type’s & all
containing faults that I know I can get hung up on. Good job we judge on virtues
& the overall package which is where this handsome 4 yr B/T scored. Good
masculine head although a shade full in the eye, darkest of points throughout,
long well arched neck leading into well placed shoulders, elbows could be
tighter, super bone & feet, plenty of forechest & width throughout, keel extends
well back, loved his body & ribbing, short strong loins, very well made
quarters, neatest of strong parallel hocks, tail correctly set. Ultra sound
coming towards me, shade untidy going away today. His outline in profile made me
look twice, good reach in front & fabulous follow through from behind & carries
himself so well. Rock hard condition & coat in great order too
2nd: SMALL Minard Darque Red For Devondax, Just loved the head & expression on
this 22 month red boy, jet black points throughout, small dark almond eyes that
gives you the kindest look that only boys can give!. All this but retaining his
masculinity, well arched neck which he uses so well on the move, well laid
shoulders, again could be tighter in elbows, very ggod feet with plenty of width
& depth through his front. Ribbing is well sprung & extends well back with cast
iron backline & gradual underline. Short thick strong loins, enough angulation
behind although a shade longer in hock than 1. Another ultra sound coming
towards me but today not as precise going away. In profile he moves out with
great style & is clearly eager to please. Put down in the highest order &
looking at his pedigree, could prove useful to many too!

1st: WALLACE Ch Ralines Just Jiles, 4 year red, loved his type & proportions,
good head & expression with good strong jaws, long well arched neck, good
shoulders & tight elbows, very good legs & feet, nails could be darker although
all his other points are jet black, prominent breastbone, plenty of width
throughout the front, very good ribbing that extends well back with a solid
topline, short in loin with his tail a clear continuation of his spine. Strong
hocks on super quarters, ultra sound coming & going, absolutely precise.
Retaining a lovely outline in profile & you can see he is quality & without
doubt a worthy champion. Today he seemed to lack animation & drive & for me here
he needed to be carrying more weight especially over his ribbing. No denying the
hard work in his beautifully presented coat which was a real treat & it showed
2nd: MCCARTHY Nagshall Dutch Odyssey, 4 year shaded red, stunning head & expression, dark points throughout, long well arched neck, not the layback of shoulder of 1, tight elbows, well made front which fits well into his crook, super feet, very good ribbing extending well back, good top & underlines, strong loins, enough angulation in quarters although a shade longer in hock than 1. He too was very precise coming & going & retained all that is good about him in profile, however just like 1 today he lacked freedom in his gait where it seemed an effort to reach out & drive through from behind. His coat is beautiful & his muscles rock hard, for type he will always appeal

1st: WOODVINE-SHONE Ir Ch & Ch Ralines Sazerac, little did I expect to see this
young man again, my BOB winner from Crufts who I had no idea that he is now
coming up 8 years of age. Needless to say I was delighted to see him & can
confirm that I still love everything about him. He is so correct in all
departments from the tip of his jet black nose to the base of his correctly set
& carried tail. Now these are shoulders, blueprint angulation, they are just
perfect. Plenty of width & depth through the front where his breastbone is
prominent & fits superbly into the crook of his strong front legs & feet. He is
pure quality, still retains everything that made him BOB at Crufts including his
showmanship, style, muscles & coat presentation to die for. You can’t judge with
your heart otherwise he would have walked away with everything again, I felt he
has (& rightly so) put some weight on therefore giving away to the zest &
vitality of youth today. An easy RCC & BV & still ranks as one of the very best
Min Longs I have ever had the pleasure of judging
2nd: BROAD Eldmour Sea Lord of Dnkidudlor, 10 year red who was presented in
super coat & condition. Loved his head & masculine expression, lovely almond
shaped eyes, enough neck leading into good shoulders & tight elbows, not the
bone & feet of 1, plenty of width throughout, very good body & ribbing, correct
top & underlines, short strong loins, not the length of second thigh of 1,
strong & firm parallel hocks which gave him ultra sound movement going away,
tending to toe in today coming towards me. Retains a good overall picture in
profile & still clearly enjoys every minute

Minor Puppy Bitch (2)
1st: MCCARTHY Nagshall Gosh How Posh, two real baby’s here both bang on six
months, both different in type & strangely enough both at different stages of
development. This 6 month shaded cream is certainly ultra feminine throughout,
loved her head & expression with the darkest of points, plenty of neck leading
into good shoulders, still needs to tighten in elbows, very good legs & feet,
prominent breastbone, ribbing goes well back, needs to firm up in loin, well
made quarters, just needing to firm up in hocks, however she was so sound coming
& going for this tender age, once settled she went well in profile, having the
most amazing coat that was beautifully presented, very promising
2nd: COX Dolyharp Grace Kelly at Cheritondax, another 6 month s/cream being
shorter in body & less exaggerated throughout which maybe in he favour in the
long run. Loved her head & the sweetest expression, jet black points throughout,
well arched neck which she uses so well already on the move, shoulders are in
the right place & just like 1 needs to tighten in elbows, another with beautiful
feet & plenty of width through her front. Shorter in body than 1 but in
proportion for her, ribbing already has some spring to it, short firm loins,
enough angulation on neat hocks. She too was quite precise coming & going for
one so young & really strutted her stuff in profile just needing to open her
gait more which I’m sure she will do with time, two promising babies indeed
Puppy
Bitch (8,1)
1st: LOCKETT-WALTERS Ralines Just Jasmine, absolutely captivating 11 month
s/cream, femininity personified, most beautiful head & expression with jet black
points throughout, ears correctly set & of the desired length, long well arched
neck leading into perfectly angled shoulders, here you have the perfect upper
arm, prominent breastbone that is well developed & fits within her crook so
well, plenty of width on super legs & feet, ribbing is well sprung for age &
extends well back, correct top & gradual underline, short strong loins leading
into well made quarters, strong, small & neat parallel hocks, tail is a clear
continuation of her spine & perfectly feathered. Here she was ultra sound both
ways & moved out so well in profile while retaining a picture of elegance. For
me she is something special & will not only be appreciated by those who know,
but will steal the hearts of those who don’t. RCC & BP
2nd: MCSORLEY Barlaine Midsummer Magic, another wow puppy!. 9 month B/T that
shouts quality, really beautiful head & expression, dark almond shaped eyes,
correct ratio’s from muzzle to skull with good strong jaws, well arched neck
leading into a very well made front, plenty of forechest, plenty of width on the
best of bone & feet, elbows tight & shoulders are so well angled. Her ribbing
extends well back & is already well sprung, short thick loins leading into well
made hammy quarters, her hocks are strong, small, neat & parallel. Another
precise coming & going especially for one so young, moves out with style in
profile with clear reach & follow through from behind & keeping an attractive
outline & clearly a happy girl loving her day out. Certainly close up to 1, just
a touch shorter coupled (not a bad thing!) & not quite the ultra femininity. She
too is one that I would dearly love to own & should have some very bright days
ahead of her!

1st: HOLTOM Rivandell Nymphadora, loved the type & overall shape of this Cream
who is just out of puppy. She is so well developed already & quite mature for
her age. Lovely head & expression, dark points & kind oval shaped eyes, plenty
of neck which she uses so well on the move, very good shoulders, super feet,
plenty of width through her well developed front, keel extends well back into a
gradual underline, cast iron backline on well sprung ribbing, loins are short &
well filled, well made quarters & this reflects so well when she moves. Hocks
are strong with no sign of weakness. Very sound coming & going, retains an
attractive outline in profile covering the ground in style with very little
effort. In fabulous coat & condition, hard as nails too. One that will be useful
in & out of the ring I would imagine!
2nd: DUNHILL Black Velvet Deelite at Gellijam, mature 11 month b/c, good head & expression, ears correctly set & of the desired length, well arched neck leading into very good shoulders, tight elbows on the best of legs & feet, well developed front, plenty of width with a good prominent breastbone, ribbing is well developed & extends well back, correct top & underlines, short thick loins. Quarters are well developed & strong with enough length of second thigh & her tail is correctly set & carried at all time. Her muscle tone was rock hard too. Quite sound coming & going & holds her outline well in profile. Loved her type & here she just needed to open her gait a little more which I’m sure she can do. Another who will prove very useful looking at her pedigree!

1st: BROWN Devoncream Mystique Jewel, A tough call here & just piping the winner
of junior on her natural head carriage & flair in profile. Both are so similar
in type & shape. This 2 year s/cream has so much quality about her, feminine
head & outlook, long well arched neck which she uses so well on the move giving
a natural head carriage that you should see on a Dachshund (not strung up bolt
upright!), well laid shoulders, tight elbows, correct length of upper arm,
plenty of front & width on very good feet, body is in proportion with perfect
height to length ratios, ribbing is deep & well sprung, well made quarters with
neat strong hocks. Very sound coming & going here, her profile gait is free &
ground covering with little effort. In super coat & condition, one that appealed
so much

1st: HOLTOM Rivandell Osha, 2 & half year s/cream, lovely type & proportions
throughout, Ultra feminine head & expression, dark almond shaped eyes, strong
jaws & teeth, enough neck leading into well placed shoulders & tight elbows,
plenty of width throughout, prominent forechest, feet could be better, ribbing
is well sprung & extends well back with a good solid topline. Short strong
loins, well muscled hammy quarters with enough angulation, tail correctly set &
carried at all times. Hocks are certainly strong & parallel in stance & on the
move, she is sound coming towards me too. In profile she holds herself together
well keeping a lovely outline, in super coat & condition. In the challenge I
felt she needed to up her game & gear to figure anymore, once she does this will
without doubt have some very good days under breed specialists
2nd: WALLACE Ralines Tina Peaches, 2 year red who I see is litter sister to The
BCC winner, she is the same beautiful type, lovely head & expression with dark
almond shaped eyes, long well arched neck, very good shoulders & length of upper
arm, well made through her front with her forechest sitting perfectly in her
crook, super legs & feet, very good body & ribbing with correct top &
underlines, strong loins, well made quarters with enough length of second thigh,
hocks are neat, strong & parallel. She moved out coming & going quite precisely
with no sign of any narrowness, presented in the most amazing coat & condition,
had she been a little bolder on the day things might have changed!

1st: WALTERS Ralines Proud Mary, 2 year red girl who must be every breed
specialists dream!. She totally fills my eye I would want very little different
about her. Beautiful head & ultra feminine expression, dark almond shaped eyes &
good strong jaws, ears correctly set & of the desired length, long well arched
neck leading into copy book shoulders, perfect angles, fabulous upper arm &
tightest of elbows. Prominent breastbone which fits so well on very good legs &
feet, her keel extends well back into the continuation of her underline, topline
is rock solid on perfect well sprung ribbing, loins are short & strong with her
tail a complete continuation of her spine which she uses correctly on the move.
Her hocks are small, neat & strong, remaining parallel at all times. Ultra sound
coming & going, in profile she has flair & style with her natural head carriage
& the easiest of natural gaits whilst retaining everything that is good about
her. For me she is a true Miniature of the type that has appealed to me for many
years, not over coated, not exaggerated & everything in proportion. She totally
filled my eye & would dearly love her to be mine!. CC (her second) & BOB with
some to spare
2nd: MCSORLEY Barlaine Golden Honey, Mature 3 year Red in rock hard condition,
loved her head & expression with dark points throughout, long well arched neck
that she uses so well to project herself on the move on a loose lead, well laid
shoulders although not the precise angles of 1, well filled front with plenty of
width throughout, very good legs & feet, ribbing is well sprung & extends well
back, good firm topline, short strong loins, well muscled hammy quarters with
good turn of stifle. Hocks are firm & strong with no sign of weakness. Coming &
going she moves parallel with no sign of weakness or narrowness. Her natural
gait is free & easy with correct reach & follow through, in beautiful coat &
condition. A shade longer than 1 but all in proportion. The type I appreciate &
another with lots to offer in & outside of the ring

1st:WALTERS Ch Ralines First Past the Post, Bang on form & totally fills your
eye, 20 month b/cream, ultra feminine throughout, gorgeous head & expression,
darkest of almond shaped eyes, ears correctly set, long well arched neck,
precise angles to her shoulder & upper arm, the best of legs & feet, well filled
front with prominent breastbone, ribbing is well sprung & extends well back,
correct top & underlines, short strong loins, tail correctly set with the
desired amount of feathering, quarters are strong & well made with good length
of second thigh , hocks are strong, neat & parallel. So sound out & back & here
moved out so freely around the ring on a loose lead. She is pure quality &
thought I would have a headache in the challenge, but with a change of handler &
her happy outgoing disposition she clearly thought it was playtime!. A tough
call, a decision that needed to be made at that moment in time & the composure
of the eventual winners sealed the day. No doubting she is pure quality & a very
lucky kennel to have three amazing young ladies in the ring, sends you green
with envey!
2nd: MASON Crownlake's Queen Bee JW, 3 year b/t, lovely type & so well made
throughout, shade longer cast throughout than one but in proportion for her.
Super head & feminine expression, tight jaws with strength in her underjaw, long
well arched neck, well laid shoulders & tight elbows, prominent forechest, feet
could be better, ribbing is long & deep extending well back into short strong
loins, firm quarters with no sign of weakness & good length of second thigh,
hocks are strong & parallel, very sound going away from me but not as precise as
1 today coming towards me. She too can cover the ground which she does in style
