DRADY Tolberg Cream Surprise At Indiko
I am very grateful to the Secretary and Committee for the opportunity to judge three varieties of dachshund at championship level and it was interesting to compare the various traits and differences. It was hard but rewarding work with dogs present in 36 classes and very warm weather: the in-and-out tented rings were so welcome for all concerned, especially the dogs, and movement may have affected by the hot conditions. My two trusty stewards, Sue and Alison, worked so hard and efficiently to keep me on track and I am extremely grateful to them both. MINIATURE LONG HAIRED DACHSHUNDS Three comments. The first is the very poor elbows of many exhibits: elbows should be close in against the ribs and not sticking out at an angle such that I could frequently insert my index finger between the two with ease. The second is the very profuse coat, especially at the rear, and I wonder how many would look after a run across a wet muddy field in winter – this is supposed to be a working breed after all. The excessive coat can cover a number of faults, elbows being one, and trying to assess rear drive another. The final comment is that of a high proportion of exhibits with poor dental care and large areas of plaque, especially on the canines. Veteran: (2,0) 1. Westaway’s Abbilis Jive Talking at Treranch, 8 year old shaded red bitch, good head, ear set and expression, a little out at elbow, level topline, good ribbing, down on pasterns, moved reasonably well VW BV 2. Macmichael’s Cheniesvilla Prince Casper, 7 year old cream dog, good head and eye, level topline, rather down on pasterns, sufficient ribbing, a little reluctant on the move but did improve towards the end
Minor Puppy Dog: (3,0) 1. Drady’s Indiko Fire and Ice, shaded red, pleasing head and eye, good prosternum, good shoulders, tight elbows, level topline, sufficient ribbing, tight feet, moved well BPD 2. Gunter’s Sanmik Captain at Welingtonway, red coat, masculine head, good prosternum, decent topline, but rather out at elbow and was enjoying himself rather too much to do himself justice 3. Cox’s Cheritondax Malbec Puppy Dog: (3.1) 1. Fairchild’s Restinim Mr Pip, black & tan (B&T), pleasing head and eye, good prosternum and front assembly, level topline, good ribbing, a bit down on pasterns, drove out well 2. McCarthy’s Nagshall Paolo Prince, 10 month old black & cream (B&C) with masculine head, rather heavy wavy coat, good topline, reasonable pasterns, but a bit out at elbow and could do with a bit more ribbing, somewhat enthusiastic on the move until he got into his stride properly Junior Dog: (1,1) Yearling Dog: (0,0) Post Graduate Dog: (1,1) Limit Dog: (2,0) 1. Stevens’ Dolyharp Amadeus at Sidburyhill, 2 year old B&T, strong masculine head, good ear set, good prosternum and front, decent length of neck, level topline, but a bit down on patterns, drove out well if rather close both rear and front 2. McCarthy’s Nagshall Dyce The Ice, 3 year old cream, good head, level topline, but rather out at elbow, moved well without the verve of class winner and not that parallel Open Dog: (6,1) 1. Ham’s Minard Darque Red for Devondax, 2 year old red, good size and proportions, correct head and dark eye, decent prosternum, tight feet, good neck leading into level topline, correct length of ribbing, moved smartly and fairly parallel both ways, liked him a lot DCC 2. Poole’s Findowrie The Fusileer, 3 year old B&C, masculine head, good eyes, good prosternum, level topline, not the feet of class winner, drove out well, a bit close in front though better from behind RDCC 3. Wood’s Ch Wildstar Washington Special Beginner: (6,0) 1. Ham’s Ciselig Hey There Delilah, 17 month old red bitch, reasonable feet, decent front, good shoulders and elbows, level topline, moved well if a little close in front 2. Westaway’s Minard Whispering Angel at Treranch, 16 month old red bitch, good front, shoulders and elbows, level topline, moved fairly well though not parallel going away 3. Tubb’s Westilow Sweet Pea Minor Puppy Bitch: (5,1) 1. Lockett-Walters’ Roses Are Red, red coat, excellent construction which showed in movement, parallel both ways, tight feet, good head and neck, strong prosternum, good shoulders and elbows, level topline, adequate ribbing, considered in challenge and will no doubt achieve top honours in due course BP 2. Webster’s Indiko Eternal Flame, B&C, pleasing feminine head, lovely outlines, good length of neck, good front, elbows better than most, tight feet, level topline, drove out well though better in front than rear 3. Cox’s Dolyharp Grace Kelly, at Cheritondax Puppy Bitch: (5,0) 1. Poole’s Findowrie Elana Rose, 10 month old B&T, coat not as profuse as many, good front and correct at elbow, good length of neck, decent feet, level topline, good ribbing, moved out well and reasonably straight 2. McSorley’s Barlaine Midsummer Magic, 11 month old B&C, decent front, not quite the length of neck as class winner, correct shoulders and elbows, tight feet, level topline, moved well and fairly parallel 3. McCarthy’s Nagshall Gosh How Posh
Junior Bitch: (7,1) 1. Dunhill’s Black Velvet Deelite at Gellijam, 14 month old B&C, good proportions, pleasing head, good length of neck, sufficient prosternum, level topline held on the move, adequate ribbing but a little tucked up, correct rear angles, moved well with drive 2. Ham’s Ciselig Hey There Delilah, as in SB above, not quite the movement as class winner, but close decision 3. McCarthy’s Nagshall Gosh How Posh Yearling Bitch: (5,1) 1. McCarthy’s Nagshall Love at Risk, 14 month old cream, correct front construction with decent prosternum and tight elbows, good feet, moved well with level topline and parallel both ways 2. Way’s Ralines Ways and Means JW, 22 month old cream, feminine head, correct dark eye, not quite the front of class winner, perhaps more length of neck required, but correct elbows, level topline, good feet, good movement, fairly parallel both ways, 3. Heather’s Ravensbeech Florentine Whiteorchard JW Post Graduate Bitch: (4,1) 1. Westaway’s Abbilis Maleficient at Treranch, 6 year old red, good head but a little short in neck, decent front, elbows reasonably tight, good topline, ribbing slightly short, a bit down on pasterns, moved well if not completely parallel 2. Whitbread’s Dwitdachs I Found a Love, 2 year old shaded cream, good front and length of neck, elbows reasonable, topline level, a little more ribbing required, a bit down on pasterns, not the movement of class winner, 3. Holtom’s Rivandell Nymphadora Limit Bitch: (6,3) 1. Heather’s Tollberg Here’s to The Future JW, 2 year old cream, decent front and neck, topline slightly arched, reasonable elbows, good length of ribbing, a bit down on pasterns, moved well and reasonably parallel 2. McCarthy’s Nagshall The Odd Excuse JW, 2 year old cream, very calm and collected, profuse coat, not the front of class winner but elbows reasonable, good length of ribbing, level topline, feet could be tighter, moved well and parallel both ways, 3. Westaway’s Abbilis Maleficient at Treranch Open Bitch: (9,2) 1. Poole’s Ch Findowries Finesse, 20 month old shaded red, very elegant and eye-catching, pleasing head, decent length of neck good front, shoulder placement and length of ribbing, correct elbows, kept her topline on the move, strong rear quarters which showed in her drive around the ring, more than happy to give her BCC & BOB 2. Wood’s Wildstar Wrolanda, shaded red, lovely proportions and excellent profile on the table, strong front and prosternum, correct elbows, level topline, correct length of ribbing and loin, good tight feet, drove out well but seemed a little nervous and not the presence of winner RBCC 3.
