Thanks to the exhibitors and my ring stewards who kept proceedings rolling. This is the first time I have judged MLH in this country and I must say it was a mixed bag, particularly the males. You would find something you liked as it walked into the ring and on the initial go around only to be totally disappointed on the front construction on the table. Shoulders overall not only placed too far forward, but upper arms are also extremely short and the lay of the scapular far to upright. Consequently, effects the reach on the move the amount of prosternum and the length of neck which are all critical aspect of any dachshund. Some elbows were out due to a short upper arm, coupled with too much turn of crook. Feet were generally acceptable however nail and nose pigmentation could be better especially on the creams. The breed standard stipulates that a dachshund must have a scissor bite whereby the top incisors overlap half the depth of the bottom incisors. There were two with level bites, and two with kinked tails a disqualifying fault in any other country. Eye shape generally okay however many set obliquely on the skull. Generally forechest/ prosternum on most only just acceptable. Length to height ratio was a mixed bag some very much fitting the old breed standard, not the 2:1 length to height ratio of the new breed standard. Ribbing, the initial building block of a dachshund is generally okay, oval and of good length. Some were a bit long in loin fitting the three L’s of the old breed standard. Back end and tail set was generally okay, some did have excessively long tails. Temperaments were sound overall generally good to go over on the table, albeit some were a bit timid on the ground. Conditioning on some could be better. There is no excuse for a dog to be found a bag of bones under its coat as the scales went several years ago. MPD (3) 1 Allforus Vanilla Ice for Xemxija (Brace) Very raw 6mth old shaded red puppy with potential now just needing some ring schooling. Nice head, front construction and hindquarters with at this stage of growth good height to length ratios. Will be interested to see how this one turns out in 12mths time. 2 Crownlake Rolls Royce (Mason) Went around the ring well for a minor puppy slightly longer than first with same ground clearance. Preferred head shape and hind movement of first. PD (3) Hanishan Starlightexpress ( Woodvine-Shone) A well schooled black and tan that I couldn’t fault in profile moving around the ring with nice out and back movement. Height to length ratios need to be better and it does have a bit of size about it for a puppy. When I first saw this one enter the ring and upon the first go around, I thought this one was destined for higher honours however its shoulder placement and the angle of the scapula let it down in the end. 2 Devoncream Dustin Thyme (Brown) This one was a bit off the pace compared to first. Nice head, and hindquarters but preferred the topline on the move of first JD (1) Gellijams The Archer (Dunhill) This one is going to be a mover and shaker moving forward if brought on correctly and the hard work put into it. On the day shown slightly out of coat and really requiring some more body conditioning this will affect its bone growth, however in full coat and trained to a tee I believe this is going to be hard to beat in the future. Exhibits a lovely shape on the move in profile, with a very good out and back, nice neck into shoulders with balanced movement front to back height to length ratios where it needs to be and correct size. Needs more confidence was seriously considered for the RCC.2 Llansansior On The Rocks (Dalton) Well presented, in good coat, put down to a tee and very well-schooled. On presentation and schooling you could consider it to be a close decision between 1st and 2nd in the end the size and front construction of first was the deciding factor. PGD (4) 1 Rivandell Sirius Black JW (Thomson) Shaded cream with good pigment, shown in perfect coat. Glided around the ring in profile with a near perfect topline indicating front to rear balance. Nice type of head, good ribbing a sign of a good topline on the move with sound rear movement. Possibly a fraction long for its height. My DCC winner on the day and has enough quality with what is being exhibited to gain his championship but will need better body condition and muscle tone for continued success. 2 Captain Caos (Causier) Winner of Special beginners on the day. Didn’t have the head or the height to length ratios of first nor the quality of first on the move. LD (3) 1 Dolyharp Rossini at Garbosa JW (Brown) Cream, nice dog on the move nice head and hind quarters. A bit short in upper arm.2 Zilcan Vanilla Ice for Arlatdax JW (Morrin & Barbi) Very similar front assembly as first short in upper arm much preferred the topline of first on the move. OD (2) 1 Indiko Fire and Ice JW (Drady) Cream, well balanced dog with good height to length ratios however on the day its topline was not quite as good as some of what I considered top contenders. Nice head, good ribbing could be better in front construction.2 Ch Abydachs Alpha Centauri (Geeson) Black and tan that was well presented and handled to a tee. Moved out well around the ring as did first with similar front construction as first. Preferred the height length ratio and much preferred the overall balance of first. VD (1) 1 Ch Hanishan Fire Cracker (Woodvine-Shone) Shaded red dog of nice size and the type I like. Not much to fault on this one movement in all 3 directions is where I would want it to be. Height to length ratio I would consider close to FCI bred standard. Would prefer better hindquarter angulation, was considered for the RCC. Special Beginners (2) 1 Captain Caos (Causier) Clear winner of this class 2 Daniello Felix Star at Abbykiera (Mcnulty) Had the attitude to move around the ring as a show dog should, however the topline and hindquarter movement is not where it should be to be a serious contender. It did have a nice shoulder lay. MPB (3,1) 1 1 Allforus Black Ice (Bell) 6mth old black and tan minor puppy that needs training. Went around the ring with a good attitude for its age. Has potential. 2 Arlatdax Persian Poet (Morrin & Barbi) Again, just making the age for the class nice red with good pigment and good attitude. Showing signs of typical growth at this age with not the best feet or hindquarters. PB (1) 1 Amberdach Inca Lily Daniello (Kasprowicz) Very nice cream bitch with black nails, clean construction and sleek in type does need schooling to move up the grades. Topline should settle with work, it has a nice head, neck into shoulders a tad short in upper as most are. Has potential if bought on correctly. JB (2) 1 Amberdach Inca Lily Daniello (Kasprowicz)2 Unlocked Heart at Abbykiera (Mcnulty) A well grown individual not the topline or rear movement of the winner. PGB (4,1) 1 Gellijams Wildest Dreams (Dunhill & Lockett-Walters) 1st and 2nd two very nice bitches in the class. Lovely breed type. Turned out to perfection and well handled. On the day shown slightly out of coat. Exhibits a lovely shape on the move in profile, nice neck into shoulders with balanced movement front to back. Perhaps a tad long in the height to length ratios but of correct size with good ground clearance. Very good shoulder lay and length of upper arm. Has a very good tail set. One of the quality exhibits.2 Hanishan Solar Express (Woodvine-Shone) Very much my breed type shaded red with good pigmentation. Height to length ratio where it should be with good ground clearance. Well presented and well handled with very good movement in all 3 directions. It was the angle of the scapular length of upper arm and tail set that was the deciding factor between these two lovely exhibits. LB (5) 1 Ralines Ways and Means JW (Way) Well-presented mature cream bitch in good coat. Lovely head, front construction coupled with nice feet. Good height to length ratio and can stand four square. 2 Indiko A Touch of Cream at Tolberg JW (Bell) Free moving black and tan bitch of correct size. Quality bitch not much to fault here. Preferred the top line on the move of first. OB (5,1) 1 Ch Ralines First Past The Post (Walters) Compact well balanced black and cream bitch of superb breed type. Nicely turned out on the day, well trained and well handled. One of very few that had the correct body conditioning. Correct height to length ratio and ground clearance. Lovely neck into shoulders and paints a real picture on the stack. Viewed from the front in the line up, well, that is something else, it comes down lovely and straight with the correct wrap around front and turn of crock with good feet, absolutely super. Very keen on the move with great reach and drive holding its topline at all times. Confidently awarded this the BCC and BOB. 2 - Ralines Coalition with Jadag (Graham) Litter sister to first. Compact well balanced black and cream bitch of superb breed type. Almost an identical twin to first. Nicely turned out on the day, well trained and well handled. Again one of very few that had the correct body conditioning. Correct height to length ratio and ground clearance although a smidgen longer and marginally bigger than first. Lovely neck into shoulders and paints a real picture on the stack. Slightly more turn of crock than first with good feet. Moved with reach and drive always holding its topline. On the day I preferred the energy of first. These litter sisters could swap places from show to show as both are high quality exhibits. Confidently awarded this the RBCC and if there was a RUBOB and not best opposite it would have been awarded RUBOB..
