Thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge mini longs and the great hospitality. It is always a pleasure and privilege to judge Dachshunds. It was a super hound weekend but the heat was tough at times for hounds and humans alike. Sadly the entry was lower on the Sunday, which made some decisions difficult but I was very pleased with my main winners. The future looks bright for the variety with some lovely youngsters presented on the day. I was looking for a functional hound with correct bite, 25% ground clearance and correct movement with drive. Some exhibits were over sized and were weak in head proportions and hind movement, which cost them higher placements naturally. I was impressed with the general condition of exhibits with most in great coat, clean teeth and short nails. A few could do with losing weight and more muscle tone. All exhibits had ample ground clearance which was pleasing to see.
Baby Puppy (4)
A great class of youngsters to start the day and putting on a good performance and all with excellent temperaments enjoying their day out.
1st Kasprowicz’s Kagatomisou Valentine Daniello. Black/cream bitch, 5 months old. Lovely breed type and good head proportions. A little wide in front at present but should tighten up. Good layback of shoulder and length of upper arm. Decent feet. Good length ribbing and bend of stifle. Moved well in side gait and behind especially for such a young age. Best baby puppy.
2nd. Borecka’s Kagatomisou Viva La Vi. 5 month old cream of good size and breed type. Decent front construction but preferred head of 1. Good length of ribbing and held topline well on move. Good bend of stifle to balance with front. Moved well for owner and showed great promise.
Veteran D/B (1)
1st Holtom’s Ralines Cameo at Rivandell. 10.5 year old b/c bitch of good size and breed type. Good coat condition. Great head proportions with enough muzzle but prefer a more almond eye. Good front angulation with good length to upper arm and ideal depth of chest and spring of rib. Ribbing ok and held topline well on move but prefer shorter hocks to complete the outline. Moved soundly and excellent rapport with handler. Best Veteran.
Minor Puppy Dog (2)
1st Gunter’s Welingtonway Muffin Man. 8.5 month old s/r of good size and balance for age. Decent head but prefer slightly more muzzle and under jaw. Good layback of shoulder and length to upper arm. Correct depth of chest for age and ribbing went well back to maintain topline. Good bend of stifle behind to balance with front. Moved soundly but a little proud of his tail at times but understandable due to age.
2nd Brace’s Allforus Vanilla Ice for Xemxija. 8 month old cream with great coat but already on the larger size. Decent head with great muzzle length and good almond eye. Slightly high in shoulder but with good ribbing. A little bum high on the move but should settle but preferred 1 for balance and construction.
Puppy dog (1)
1st Mason’s Crownlake Rolls Royce. 10 month old b/t in super coat and condition for age. Lovely head proportions and scissor bite with correct almond eye and expression. Good front construction with ideal depth of chest and spring of rib. Great feet. Ribbing went well back and supported firm topline. Good rear angulation and ideal balance with front. Carried himself very well on the move with enough drive and very sound coming and going. During the challenge, he was the best moving dog on the day with great breed type and ring presence. DCC and Best of Breed. I was very pleased to see him go Best Puppy In Show later in the day. Congratulations. A bright future I am sure.
Junior Dog (7,3)
1st Whitfield-Robert’s Dandydayo Cowboy and Kisses. 13 month old s/r in excellent coat and muscle condition. Ideal size and lots of breed type with good height to body ratio. Decent head with pleasing expression and correct eye and bite. Super feet and correct front angulation with tight elbows. Good length of ribbing and enough bend of stifle behind to balance with front. Held topline well on move and sound coming and going but prefer a little more drive. RCC.
2nd Kasprowicz’s Daniello Diamond Dove. 17 month old Choc/tan, different type to 1 and won his place by out moving the rest of the class. Decent head with correct almond eye and lovely expression. Good front construction with enough depth of chest and ample ground clearance. Decent ribbing but longer in loin than 1. Rear angulation in balance with front and showed a pleasing outline on the move.
Yearling Dog (1)
1st Gunter’s Sanmik Captain at Welingtonway. 19 month old red in good coat and condition but oversized. Good head proportions but prefer a more almond eye. Ok front with good layback of shoulder but too short in upper arm. Ribbing ok but slightly bum high on move due to being longer in the hock. Moved soundly coming but was closer behind going.
Post Grad Dog (4,1)
1st Causier’s Captain Chaos. 3 year old cream of ok size and in good coat condition. Prefer more muzzle but pleasing expression. Good layback of shoulders and ok for upper arm but prefer less flat feet. Ok for ribbing and slightly long in loin. Good bend of stifle and and length to hocks. Moved soundly coming and going but slightly bum high on side gait.
2nd Kasprowicz’s Daniello Dreamer Boy. 18 month old chocolate dapple of ideal size and proportions. Weak in head, which ruined his expression. Good layback of shoulders and length to upper arm. Good depth of chest with ideal prosternum. Good ribbing and bend of stifle behind which balanced with front. Moved soundly coming and going but would prefer more drive.
Limit Dog (5,2)
Unfortunately I decided to withhold third place in this class. The exhibit was too large in size and too much bone for a miniature Dachshund in my opinion.
1st Latham-Jackson’s Revdvicki's Theodore by Urishay JW. 2 year old b/t with excellent outline and ample ground clearance. Good head proportions but prefer more almond eye to complete the expression. Decent front construction with good length to upper arm and depth of chest. Strong feet. Great topline and good length or ribbing and short in loin. Excellent rear angulation providing balance with front. Moved soundly in all directions with good ring presence.
2nd Thompson’s Rivandell Sirius Black JW. 2 year old shaded cream in great coat and condition of good size and breed type. Good head proportions and pleasing eye. Decent shoulders and front angulation. Good ribbing but longer in loin than 1. Good bend of stifle behind for balance but a little proud of tail which let him down on the move compared to 1.
Open Dog (4,3)
1st Ham’s Minard Darque Red for Devondax JW. 3 year old red in good coat and ideal size. Good breed type. Scored in head proportions and perfect bite. Ok in shoulders and prefer more upper arm. Good length to ribbing and short in loin. Held topline well. Good length of hocks and bend of stifle. Sound coming and going but prefer more reach and drive on side gait.
Champion dog (1)
1st Geeson’s Ch Abydachs Alpha Centauri. 5 year old quality b/c but too much of him for me. Decent head proportions with pleasing eye. Good shoulders and front construction with ample ground clearance.. Good strong feet. Ideal length of ribbing and held topline very well on the move. Good rear angulation and bend of stifle with plenty of balance. Moved with great purpose, true coming and going but prefer a little more drive.
Special beginners (3)
1st Causier’s Captain Chaos. See PGD critique.
2nd Gunter’s Darwindax Bobby Jean at Welingtonway. 3 year old b/t bitch in good coat. Good head proportions and scissor bite. Slightly upright in shoulder and shorter in ribbing than 1. Preferred the overall balance of 1 and more sound on the move.
Minor Puppy Bitch (3)
1st Latham-Jackson’s Urishay Netsuke. 6 month old b/t of ideal compact size and good breed type. Great head proportions and correct bite. Pleasing expression. Good shoulders and ideal depth of chest for age. Decent ribbing and held topline well on the move. Good rear angulation with plenty of balance. Once settled, moved well for handler. A promising pup.
2nd Bell’s Allforus Black Ice. 8 month old b/c with good coat. Great head proportions and pleasing eye and scissor bite. Shoulders ok but prefer more reach of neck. Ok for ribbing and slightly longer in hock than 1. Preferred overall balance and outline on the move of 1.
Puppy Bitch (3,1)
1st Kasprowicz’s Amberdach Inca Lily Daniello. My find of the day. 10 month old cream in great coat and muscle condition for age. Pleasing outline with ample ground clearance. Great head proportions with correct scissor bite and almond eye. Good reach of neck into correct shoulder placement and ideal length of upper arm. Good depth of chest and spring of rib which went well back to maintain topline. Excellent bend of stifle and ideal hock length to ensure overall balance. On the move, she excelled over all other bitches on the day with the best reach and drive and very sound coming and going. On the day, she could not be denied the BCC. Congratulations. A bright future I am sure.
2nd Steven’s Crownlake Dream Weaver On Sidburyhill. B/c of good size and coat. Preferred head proportions of 1 and overall balance. Good feet and decent front construction but bum high currently. Hopefully will settle in future.
Junior Bitch (5,3)
1st Kasprowicz’s Amberdach Inca Lily Daniello. See PB critique.
2nd Gunter’s Welingtonway Miss Mischief. 14 month old b/t of good size. Great head proportions and eye with scissor bite. Ok front construction but prefer longer ribbing as a little roached on move. Preferred overall balance and movement of 1.
Yearling Bitch (4,1)
1st Latham-Jackson’s Urishay Quizzle. 19 month old b/c of compact size with great length to height ratio. Decent head with correct scissor bite but prefer more almond eye. Good strong feet. Good layback of shoulder and depth of chest with good ground clearance. Ribbing ok and good bend of stifle behind to balance with forequarters. Moved soundly in all directions.
2nd Holtom’s Cheritondax Pinot Grigio for Rivandell. 20 month old red of great size and coat. Ok head but prefer more muzzle. Slightly upright in shoulder but good depth of chest. Ok ribbing and held topline well on move. Preferred angulation front and back of 1 and overall outline.
Post Graduate Bitch (6,4)
1st Dunhill & Lockett-Walters. Gellijams Wildest Dreams. 14 month old shaded cream up to size. Good outline with ample ground clearance. Pleasing head with correct proportions, scissor bite and correct almond eye. Good front angulation with correct length of upper arm. Good length of ribbing and firm topline. Enough bend of stifle in rear with correct hock length for balance with front. On the move carried topline well in side gait but front movement was wide.
2nd Mason’s Crownlakes Million Dollars. B/c of good size and excellent coat and condition. Good head but prefer slightly longer muzzle. Decent from construction and excellent feet. Good length to ribbing and held topline very well. Good bend of stifle behind and plenty of balance but prefer more drive to complete the picture.
Limit Bitch (3,1)
1st Holtom’s Rivandell Osha. 4 year old shaded cream of great size and breed type. Decent head with pleasing expression and scissor bite. Excellent feet. Good layback of shoulder and ideal length to upper arm. Good depth of chest with ample ground clearance. Decent ribbing and held topline well. Good bend of stifle with correct hock length. Moved true in all directions but sadly carrying too much weight. I did consider her for the RCC.
2nd Way’s Ralines Ways and Means JW. 3 year old cream bitch of larger size. Decent head proportions and good almond eye and scissor bite. Strong feet. Good ribbing and topline but prefer more balance. Good in front movement but a bit too close behind.
Open Bitch (5,3)
1st Mason’s Crownlakes Million Dreams. 2 year old s/r in excellent coat and of good size and breed type. Good head proportions and pleasing almond eye. Good reach of neck into excellent shoulders and return of upper arm. Good depth of chest with ample ground clearance. Excellent feet. Ideal length of ribbing with short loin and firm topline which she held on the move. Good bend of stifle and plenty of balance. Moved true coming and going with correct tail carriage. RCC.
2nd Walter’s Ch Ralines First Past The Post. 3 year old b/c of good size and breed type. Ok head but prefer more muzzle. Good front construction with excellent feet and ideal ground clearance. Good length of ribbing and held topline well on the move. Good bend of stifle behind and had balance with front. Moved soundly coming and going but proud of her tail the whole way round the ring which ruined her outline.
