Judges report for miniature long haired
dachshunds. Miniature club championship show. 8th February 2026. Judge
Mrs Mandy Dance
I would like to start by thanking the
miniature club and committee for inviting me to judge this variety also
to my very capable steward Mrs Janet K who kept the ring running
beautifully. Of course it would be no-show without the exhibitors and I
thank everyone for the entry.
I will begin with the good points:
temperaments were on the whole very good and I personally set a lot of
store about this. Mouths were correct with all having scissor bite
though some teeth could do with cleaning. Nails were short apart from a
few which required attention. Presentation varied although most were
presented in good coat and clean condition. Top lines on the hole were
not too bad and I was pleased that size doesn’t seem to have taken over
as an issue as yet with many exhibits being correctly sized.
Unfortunately there are also some bad points: feet were very worrying in
many cases with flat open feet pointing at 10 to 2 and worse in some
instances. Eyes although dark were large round and protruding in quite a
few. Elbows were out on nearly all the exhibits apart from a few. Fronts
were disappointing. Either they were very narrow in front or they had no
forechest. Handling in some instances left a lot to be desired and
people could make more of their exhibits if they learned to handle them
correctly.
Shoulders also left a lot to be desired in
many, with shoulder blades running into the neck and very short upper
arms.
Without correct front assembly, these are
not good dachshunds. I fear that the coat covers a multitude of sins and
if these dogs were to be wet through or stripped of their coats they
would show not to be a correct assembly of the dachshund. Some were very
slab sided and lacking in bone showing little evidence of substance.
That being said I was pleased with my
winners. My criticisms are to hopefully be helpful to newer exhibitors.
Veteran dog three entries, three present.
First best veteran Res cc. Woodbine-Shone
Ch Hanishan Fire Cracker.
Seven year old red with good top line,
lovely mouth and moving with plenty of drive. His front assembly is
correct and he shows enthusiasm. Well presented and in great condition.
Correct height to length ratio pleasing exhibit.
Second Western and Johnson. Champion
Ecotyne Devil’s advocate.
B/T Pleasing sized dog. Well ribbed and
has a good front, but didn’t have the top line of one today.
Minor puppy dog six entries.
First Whitfield Roberts. Dandydayo cowboy
and kisses. Lovely sized red puppy had good top line and correct front
assembly feet were good tight and had short nails. Best puppy dog but he
was tired when it came to best puppy and breed promising baby.
Second brown. Devon cream Dustin Thyme.
Cream baby slightly longer cast than first and less mature. Had pleasing
head and eye with good pigment.
First Neasby Erinshore Red Robin for
Ulani.
Red with good elbows and correct height to
length ratio. A little round in eye but head okay. Coat a bit curly at
this stage.

ring good height to length ratio feet where good super presentation
moved well and had a steady temperament. To be picky would prefer a
slightly more almond eye but a really good exhibit.

Black and tan made in larger mould than winner. Good head and kept top
line on the move just preferred the overall balance of one.
First Ham. Minard Darque Red for Devondax
