I would like to thank the hardworking committee of the Midland Dachshund Club for inviting me to judge for them. I would also like to thank my steward, Lynn, for organising my ring and keeping the judging flowing. Without people giving up their time like this, dog showing would be all the poorer and struggle to put on shows for the exhibitor. I would also like to thank the exhibitors for entering under me and accepting my decisions with good grace, even if they were not all in your favour. I was disappointed to find a lot of dirty mouths, even in younger dogs. This is not acceptable and easily remedied. A good few lacked forechests and there were a lots of loose elbows. Again, this points to a lack of basic road work. Heads were generally good but a few lacked the correct stop, either non existent or too steep. The former from heads that were too narrow and long, the latter from too short and wide. It was pleasing to find very few unlevel toplines or incorrect bites and no kinks in tails.
Minor Puppy Dog (4/1)
1st Welingtonway Muffin Man (Gunter) 9 mth red. A slightly feminine head for me but set on an elegant neck with a good layback of shoulders. Excellent front and rear angulation and tight elbows. Good forechest and depth of ribbing. Moved with drive whilst maintaining a level topline throughout. Moved straight both going and coming.
2nd Ensigynes Oisin (Siggee) 6 mth cream. Liked this boy’s head, set on an elegant neck, good lay of shoulders coupled with spot on front and rear angles which allowed sound movement around the ring, driving and showing me his pads as he did so. Elbows not as tight as I was looking for but he has age on his side so I am not too critical of this.
Puppy Dog (2/0)
1st Daniello Felix Star at Abbeykiera (McNulty) 10 mth Bl/t. Great head shape with correct almond eye and ear set. Super lay of shoulder coupled with correct angulation and forechest. Not quite as tight in the elbows as yet but really drove around the arena, maintaining a level topline and showing straightness as he came and went. I am sure he will have a bright future as he matures BPD.
2nd Crownlake Rolls Royce (Mason) 10mth Bl/t. Tighter elbows on this young man and also having a correct head shape and angulation. He just lacked the real drive that my winner gave me today but his topline remained level as he moved so I am sure his day will come.
Junior Dog (5/1)
1st Dandydayo Cowboy and Kisses (Whitfield-Roberts) 13 mth Red. What a super show boy he is. Such correct construction throughout and able to flow easily around the ring, maintaining that level topline and with clear showing of pads as drives away. True straightness going and coming. Already in the mix for top honours but just lacked a little substance that my top end winners had.
2nd Daniello Felix Star at Abbeykiera (McNulty) 10 mth Bl/t. See Above.
Post Graduate Dog (3/0)
1st Sanmik Captain at Welingtonway (Gunter) 2 1/2yr Red. Not quite the classic head that I was looking for but in all other departments, he was spot on. Angulation could not be faulted and his movement was excellent with a clear, level topline at all times while demonstrating a good straightness in his away and back.
2nd Captain Caos (Causier) 3yr Cream. Although I was not bowled over by his head shape, as with my winner, everything else was in the correct proportion and movement was good. Splitting hairs here, just lacking the drive of the winner today.
Limit Dog (6/0)
1st Dolyharp Rossini at Garbosa (Brown) 2yr Cream. This young man wowed me from start to finish. Classic head on a correctly elegant neck into well laidback shoulders. His front construction was spot on. Correct depth and length of ribbing into a strong loin and then excellent rear angulation. He floated around the ring, no hesitating and such a strong rear drive. At no time did he faulter or flag. I had a hard choice between him and the Open winner but his movement was the clincher. DCC. In the challenge, he again shone so I was pleased to award him BOB .
2nd Zilcan Vanilla Ice for Arlatdax (Morrin & Barbi) 2 ½ Cream. Although I can say almost the same here as for the winner, there was not quite the fluency here as for the winner but this is a well-constructed dog who will surely take high honours on another day.
Open Dog (5/1)
1st Indiko Fire and Ice JW (Drady) 19 mth Cream. Another out of the top draw. Correct head with classic eye and ear positions, great front and rear construction, spot on ribbing and loin length. Excellent rear angulation that allowed him to drive cleanly round the ring with a level topline. In the challenge, he pushed the Limit dog all the way. Pleased to reward him with RDCC.
2nd Ch Abydachs Alpha Centauri (Geeson) 4 1/2yr Bl/t. Another great stamp of dog for the breed. Super head with correct eye shape and ear placement. Correct front and rear angles along with depth and length of ribbing and loin. Level topline at all times on the move. Just not driving as fully as my winner today.
Veteran Bitch (3/0)
1st Ch Wildstar Wrosberg (Wood) 7yrs Red. Well-constructed bitch from her head down to her tail. Correct front and rear angles that allowed good free movement around the ring, straight coming and going with a level topline. BV and pleased to see her win BVIS.
2nd Ralines Cameoat Rivendell (Holtom) 10 yrs Bl/t. A slightly older version of the winner but still as well constructed as 1st place. Today, she was not giving me the drive of the winner.
Minor Puppy Bitch (6/0)
1st Bronia Celestial at Indiko (Drady) 8th Cream. Lovely head with correct eye and ear shape/placement. Her front and rear angulation were spot on as was her topline as she moved with strong drive around the ring. Very feminine and I am sure she will go far as her career progresses.
2nd Allforus Black Ice (Bell) 7mth Bl/t. Of greater substance compared to the winner but still correctly constructed form top to toe. Excellent topline at all times but just lacking the drive of my winner today.
Puppy Bitch (3/0)
1st Findowrie Forget Me Not (Poole) 11 mth Bl/t. So feminine and with a super head on an elegant neck. Well laidback shoulders and correct front angles and forechest. Beautiful straight topline as she drove powerfully around the ring. She has it all and was pleased to award her BPB, then BPIB. So pleased to see her take RBPIS.
2nd Nagshall Stayblond for Jamesfair (James) 11mths Cream. Another of very sound construction, correct front and rear angles, level topline on the move and good drive from behind. As with a lot of my decisions, movement was slightly less powerful compared to the class winner.
Junior Bitch (3/1)
1st Lampcien Fatal Attraction for Tiffwazz (Valentine) 14mth Bl/t. Was a little nervous on the table to begin with but when settled she proved to be so well constructed and a pleasure to go over. On the move, she maintained her level topline and demonstrated good drive out while straight both coming and going.
2nd Welingtonway Miss Mischief (Gunter) 14mth Bl/t. Much of my comments above can be attributed to this bitch but just not quite moving as freely today while her tail flying spoilt the outline today.
Post Graduate Bitch (13/2)
1st Sanmik Last Girl (Palin). 19 mths Red. This little girl is what makes judging such a pleasure. To go over a dog of such quality makes my day. Classic head on an elegant neck and down into super front construction. Great ribbing and strong loin area into correct rear angulation. All this allowed her to power around the ring. Considered her for the RBCC. Her time will come.
2nd Gellijams Wildest Dreams (Dunhill & Lockett-Walters) 14 mth Cream. Another out of the top draw, in the biggest class of the day. Like my winner, she is spot on in construction and moved smoothly around the ring with a level topline. Just did not move as strongly as the winner today in the final move off.
Limit Bitch (8/2)
1st Indiko Eternal Flame (Drady) 19mth Bl/t. As with all my winners today, super construction throughout. Great front angles and tight elbows. Sound ribbing and strong loin area into spot on rear angles that allowed her to drive smoothly around the ring, while maintaining a level topline and clearly showing pads as she moved.
2nd Moatcrest Miss Daisy at Gainscroft (Vincent) 19 mth Shaded Cream. Although rangier than the winner, this is still such a beautifully constructed bitch. This allowed he to move with ease and a level topline at all times. I would just like a little more body on her.
Open Bitch (8/2)
1st Ralines Coalition with Jadag (Graham) 2 yr Bl/t. It is always such a pleasure to go over a dog of this quality. Classic head, elegant neck into beautiful front angles, tight elbows and super forechest. Spot on ribbing and loin length, coupled with great rear angles that allowed her to move with ease. All the time, she was saying look at me so I was so pleased to award her the BCC and to make her up.
2nd Indiko A Touch of Cream at Tolberg JW (Bell) 21 mth Bl/t. Another top draw exhibit in this strong class. Also so beautifully constructed, coupled with spot on movement. A pity she had to meet the winner today but, in the final selection, she pushed hard to take the RBCC. I am sure she will sit top of the pile shortly.
