Firstly, I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge at this show and to all the exhibitors who entered under me when it was due to be carried out in June in conjunction with Windsor Championship show. It was ultimately the right decision to cancel at the time due to the extreme weather conditions, but such a shame too. But also thank you to those of you who came along to Richmond to participate. Thank you also to my stewards Susanne Crow and Pauline Langridge, I hope you enjoyed your first time stewarding Pauline.

Miniature Long haired dachshunds

Overall, these dogs were all presented in good condition, but the veterans could definitely show the younger dogs a thing or two when it comes to dental hygiene! I did come across one kinked tail and the movement of some wasn’t as good as I would hope.

Veteran Dog/Bitch - 2 entered, 0 absent

1st - Miss Woodvine-Shone, Ch Hanishan Fire Cracker (BVIB). A 7 year old shaded red dog who shows no sign of his veteran status. He has a strong, masculine head, a correct bite, exceptionally clean teeth, dark almond-shaped eyes, and well-shaped, well-set ears. He has a strong neck which gives a good clean line into the withers, and a prominent prosternum. His shoulders are well angulated, though set a touch farther forward than ideal, and his elbows are close-fitting. He has a keel that extends well back, good rib length, and a short, strong loin. His level topline remained firm both stacked and moving. A well-placed croup and strong, well-angulated hindquarters gave him plenty of drive. Presented in excellent condition with a lovely coat. 2nd — Mrs P G Westaway, Abbilis Maleficent at Treranch. A 7 year old shaded red bitch who also wears her years lightly. She is compact and feminine, with a pleasing head, dark almond-shaped eyes, and again beautifully clean teeth. Her neck is of good length and flows into well-placed, well angulated shoulders, with a prominent prosternum. She has slightly less ground clearance than the winner, but a keel of good length, a pleasing rib-to-loin ratio, well-angulated hindquarters, and a level topline. Her movement did not quite match that of the winner, and I felt her front pasterns were a little soft.

1st - Miss Woodvine-Shone, Hanishan Starlightexpress (RBOB, BD & BP). A 13 month old black and tan dog who would have been under 12 months on the show’s original date, which caused us both a moment’s confusion! Although he stood alone in his class, he is a lovely, typey youngster who shows great promise. I look forward to seeing how he develops. He has a well-proportioned head, a correct bite, dark, well-shaped eyes, and ears of pleasing shape, size and placement. His neck is of lovely length and leads into a strong, prominent prosternum with clearly defined depressions on either side. His shoulders are well placed and angulated, with close-fitting elbows. A keel of good length and excellent rib-to-loin ratio. He held his topline both stacked and moving. His movement was parallel front and rear, with plenty of drive. He has well-angulated hindquarters, a well-laid croup and a nice tail set. Presented in superb coat and good condition for a youngster.

JD – 3 entered, 1 absent

1st - Mrs M E Poole, Findowrie The Field Marshal. A 15-month-old red dog who was slightly nervous on the day.  He has a lovely masculine head, dark, well-shaped eyes, a correct bite, and well-shaped, well-set ears. His neck is of good length and flows into well-laid, nicely angulated shoulders, with close-fitting elbows and a prominent prosternum. He has adequate ground clearance, though his keel is slightly shorter than ideal and he is a little long in loin. His well-angulated hindquarters enabled him to move with good drive. He maintained a good topline both standing and moving. Presented in good coat which isn’t over done. 2nd - Mrs K & Mr R Neasby, Erinshore Red Robin for Ulani. A 17-month-old shaded red dog who was rather unsettled on the table. He has a pleasing head, well-shaped eyes and a correct bite. His neck is of moderate length, leading into a shoulder of good length. However, his upper arm is a little short and the entire front assembly is set a little too far forward. He has a good length of keel and a pleasing rib-to-loin ratio, with moderately angulated hindquarters and good feet front and rear. Presented in good coat.

PGD – 3 entries, 1 absent

1st – Miss J Bater, All For Show.  A 2 year-old shaded red dog of good size who displayed the best movement. He has a lovely masculine head, dark, well-shaped eyes, a correct bite, and well-sized, well-placed ears. His neck is of good length, although I would prefer it to flow more smoothly into the withers. His shoulders are moderately angulated, with sufficient length of upper arm, though the entire front assembly is set a little too far forward. He has a prominent prosternum, a good amount of ground clearance and a fairly good length of rib but is a little long in the loin, he tended to lose his topline slightly on the move on the day. His hindquarters are fairly well angulated, and he moved parallel both coming and going on nice tight feet. Presented in superb coat. 2nd – Mrs K Turton, Cornwalldaxs Midnight Star at Damoradaxies. A two-year-old shaded cream dog who is a little on the larger side. He has a pleasing head with lovely dark pigmentation, dark, well-shaped eyes, a correct bite, and well-shaped ears of good size. His neck is of moderate length, leading into fairly well-angulated shoulders, though I would prefer a little longer upper arm and tighter elbows. He has adequate ground clearance, a good length of rib, and a strong loin, which enabled him to maintain his topline on the move. He has a good return of stifle but is a little long from hock to foot, which meant his movement did not match that of the winner.

1st – Mrs F & Mrs C Hanney-Mitchell & Dare, Al Capone Crespalia Bronia (Imp Esp) (RBD). A 2 year-old shaded red dog, nicely balanced and of good size and proportions. I felt his head was a little fine for a male, though it was well proportioned, with dark, well-shaped eyes, a correct bite and well-placed ears. His neck is of good length and flows into well-laid, correctly angulated shoulders. He has a prominent prosternum with sufficient depressions on either side. A good length of keel with correct ground clearance and a pleasing rib-to-loin ratio enabled him to maintain a firm topline both stacked and moving. His hindquarters are balanced and correctly angulated, although he moved a little close behind. His croup and tail set are correct. Presented in superb coat and condition. 2nd - Rev A Fairchild, Restinim Mr Pip. A 2 year-old black and tan dog of pleasing size. He has a masculine head, dark, well-shaped eyes and a correct bite. His neck is of sufficient length and flows into well-placed, correctly angulated shoulders. I would prefer a little more ground clearance and a longer keel. He has nicely angulated hindquarters and good feet both front and rear.

1st – Miss B A Ham, Minard Darque Red for Devondax JW.  A 3 year-old red dog of good size. He has a lovely masculine head of pleasing proportions, dark, well-shaped eyes, a correct bite, and well-sized, well-placed ears. His neck is of good length and flows into well-angulated shoulders, although the front assembly is set a little too far forward. He has a prominent prosternum, a good length of keel and rib, and a short, strong loin and kept a good top line when moving. His hindquarters are well angulated, but he moves a little close behind, he has good feet and was presented in lovely coat.

1st – Mrs M E Poole, Findowrie Forget Me Not (PB & BPiB). A black and cream bitch of 13 months. She has a pretty, compact and well-balanced outline. Her feminine head is nicely proportioned between her muzzle and skull, with lovely dark eyes, correctly placed ears and a correct bite. She has a good length of neck and shoulders of adequate angulation which are well placed, together with a prominent prosternum. Her keel is of the correct length, and the balance between rib and loin helped her maintain a firm topline while moving. She has sufficient angulation of the hindquarters and moved out well, remaining parallel both coming and going. She has nice, tight feet and presented in lovely coat. 2nd - Mrs J & Mr P Phillips, Summerview Lucy Locket. A 14 month-old black and tan bitch, slightly longer than the winner. Her head is well proportioned, with dark, well-shaped eyes, a correct bite and ears of good size and position. A pleasing length of neck flows into correctly placed, well-angulated shoulders. She has a good prosternum, a good length of keel and ribcage with a short loin, together with well-angulated hindquarters. Unfortunately, she was reluctant to move on the day, which made it difficult to assess her movement fully.

JB 2 entries, 0 absent

1st – Mrs K J & Mr Dl Gunter, Welingtonway Miss Mischief. A 16 month-old black and tan bitch of correct size, presenting a compact and well-balanced outline. She has a pretty, feminine head of pleasing proportions, with dark, well-shaped eyes, a correct bite and well-sized, correctly placed ears. Her neck is of good length and flows into well-positioned, nicely angulated shoulders but I would like to see tighter elbows and front feet. She has a prominent prosternum and a keel of good length. She has a good rib to loin ratio and her strong loin enabled her to maintain a firm topline both stacked and moving. Well-angulated hindquarters provided sufficient drive, although she moves a little close behind. Presented in good coat and condition. 2nd - Miss J Lander, Songbirdie in The Thistle. An 18 month-old shaded cream bitch, slightly larger than the winner. She has a pleasing feminine head, dark, well-shaped eyes and a correct bite. Her neck is of good length and flows into correctly placed, well-angulated shoulders, with a prominent prosternum. I would prefer a better length of the keel and ribcage. She was inclined to lose her topline on the move.

1st – Miss Woodvine-Shone, Hanishan Solar Express. (BB & BOB) A 22 month old shaded red bitch, this young bitch caught my eye as soon as she walked into the ring. She’s got a lovely feminine head of good proportions, with a nice and very dark eye, correct ear position and bite. She has just the right length of neck which leads into well placed and angulated shoulders, a prominent prosternum which has adequate depressions either side and a good length of keel. The correct amount of ground clearance and elbows held close to her body. The correct rib to loin ratios which allowed her to keep a firm and level topline both when moving and stacked. A well laid croup with the correct tail-set and balanced and nicely angulated hindquarters which gave her a pleasing amount of drive and she was parallel moving to and away. Presented in gorgeous not overdone coat and superb condition. 2nd - Mrs Kelly Church, Chriskim's Golden Ticket at Floxie. A 2 year old cream bitch. And many of the same comments for the winner apply to her as well. She’s got excellent pigmentation, a nice feminine head, good eyes, bite and ear set, a good length of neck and well laid back shoulders, slightly less angulation front and rear than the winner, and slightly longer in overall body length with a little less ground clearance. She moved out well and had a superb coat and condition. 3rd - Rev A Fairchild, Findowrie Field of Dreams and Restinim.

PGB 6 entries, 4 absent

1st – Mrs P G Westaway, Minard Whispering Angel at Treranch. (RBB) A 2.5 year old red bitch. A nicely balanced and compact bitch with a lovely head, good dark well shaped eye, correct bite, nice sized and well positioned ears. A good length of neck leads into well placed shoulders; she is a little straight but has a nicely prominent prosternum with well defined depressions either side. Good ground clearance, and elbows held tightly to her body. A good length of keel and correctly proportioned rib to loin ratios which allow her to keep a firm topline both on the move and when stacked. She has a well laid croup and good tail-set, with sufficiently angulated hindquarters. She moved parallel both coming to and going away with good tight feet. Presented in superb coat and good condition. 2nd - Mrs H & Mr M Edwards-Everett & Everett, Emeraldax Naked Kiss. A 2 year old cream bitch, slightly longer in overall length than the winner. She has a lovely well shaped head with excellent pigmentation and dark eyes, nicely shaped and positioned ears and correct bite. Sufficient length of neck with a good prominent prosternum. Her shoulders are nicely angulated but the whole assembly is a little far forward. Enough ground clearance, but a slightly shorter than ideal keel. Balanced hindquarters with nice tight feet front and rear. Presented in good coat and condition.

LB 3 entries, 3 absent.

OB 3 entries, 2 absent.

1st – Mrs M E Poole, Findowrie Elana Rose. A 2 year old black and tan bitch who presented a lovely compact and balanced outline. She has a well-proportioned head, with lovely dark well shaped eyes, and correct bite. A good length of neck which leads into well angulated and laid-back shoulders, but she moves slightly wide at the front. A prominent prosternum with nicely defined depressions either side. A good length of keel and correct rib to loin ratio which allowed her to keep a firm topline both on the move and stacked. Well angulated hindquarters and good feet both front and rear. Presented in lovely coat and good condition and was a close contender for RBB
