We all know that there are types within the breed type of any breed but I hadn’t realised how many here until I stepped into the ring. The type I like I hope was obvious from my placings. In general coats were good i.e obviously wire haired and mouths not too bad. Temperaments also good. All but one were of correct weight and he was a lovely old gent in veteran. There were some high hocks and movement in many was restricted with the dogs pattering along. They may have short legs but should still be able to reach and drive and move parallel coming and going. I do like a dog that moves as if it really has somewhere to go. I do not like flagpole tails and snipey muzzles. There were some round eyes. The two worst faults I found were 1 short rib cages and 2 poor feet. The Dachshund should have an enormous heart and lung capacity with a long breat bone. I do not know why rib cages have got so short, it is extremely prevalent in my own breed, Afghans, at the moment as well. A long loin making up the body length cannot be good for the spine or fitness for function; ‘No foot, no horse’ as the saying goes. There were many with thin pads and no arch to toes and long nails and this too cannot be good for a dog that goes to ground and is expected to be able to dig. I don’t want to sound too negative, I was pleased with my winners.

V (4) 1 Price’s Samlane Xanthe. Pretty 8 yr old b in excellent order. Not too happy with the venue but moved soundly; 2 Gorton Baker’s Kotch’s Smarty Pants. Taller b than 1 and not moving as well behind; 3 Punter’s Ch Welcumen Topspin.

SP BEG (9) 1 Whitehouse’s Ubu The Jazz Singer. This b was the youngest in the class. She was rather loose in movement but age was in her favour; 2 Moore’s Jiljac Azelea At Davicmar. Larger b, good balance front to back, didn’t deliver on the move. Excellent coat; 3 Walker’s Hillstar Rosie-Marie.

MPD (6) 1 Hassall’s Shoulda Woulda Coulda. What a lovely name for a pleasing p. Compact, well balanced, good outline and head; 2 Moate’s Dianamo Magnum. Lovely coat, still a little high behind. Many in this class uneven but such babies with plenty of time to settle; 3 Smith’s Dunnspitts Jake.

PD (8) 1 and BPD Dance’s Emem Nipper In The Air. Lovely pup. Well balanced, good coat, both top and bottom lines gd; 2 Mueller’s Rabymere Francs A Lot. V nice p in good coat. Slightly shorter cast than 1 and didn’t keep his outline as well on the move; 3 McDowell’s Waldmeister Brook.

JD (4) 1 Thorn-Andrews’ Drakesleat Von Der Full. Balanced front and back, excellent neck and moved soundly, good coat; 2 Lewis’ Trixhund Simon Says. I v much liked this youngster. Good balance of neck to body, a terrible fidget and rather elbowy on the move; 3 Wood’s Wildstar Wedgewood.

PGD (5) 1 and CC Wilberg’s Stargang Xcaliber At Kanix. Oh yes! As soon as he walked into the ring I thought there would have to be something really special to beat him for the top spot. A lovely compact balanced d, moving so soundly and with reach and drive. He had good feet and almost more than any other today seemed completely comfortable within his weight; 2 Russell’s Kevocklea Twelfth Knight. Slightly bigger d than 1. Again in good coat but not driving as well behind and not the balance of front to back; 3 Scott’s Daisarch Dashing Dudley.

LD (10) 1 Barney’s Verrami Guess What. Good shape, balance and topline. Rather between coats and didn’t have much sparkle on the move; 2 Morton’s Dhuaig Designer Stubble At Cotherstone. Compact d with many attributes of 1. He too didn’t really deliver on the move; 3 Holmes’ Curtisey Seet Basil At Cazzdan.

OD (8) 1 and Res CC Boynes’ Ch Brindeckel Ballykay. Compact, balanced, in good coat. Good topline and pleasing head. Sound moving; 2 Thorn-Andrew’s Drakesleat Spaghetti Junct. Black and tan with really harsh coat. Longer on the leg than 1 and moved with enthusiasm. Preferred topline of 1; 3 Hallett’s Ch Loretto Not To Knight.

MPB (11) 1 Evill’s Ubu Temps Perdu. Neat p with pretty outline. Maybe not as sound as some but plenty of time and I loved the ‘oomph’ with which she moved; 2 Barney’s Verrami Vera Right. Youngster with plenty of scope, houndy head and better feet. Rather high in rump at the moment; 3 Thorn-Andrews’ Dunnspitts Kwite Kute Drakesleat.

PB (14) 1 Wilberg’s Kanix Audrey. Well balanced p front to back. Excellent keel, good feet and free moving; 2 Cocozza/Sexton’s Freecloud Mum’s The Word. Lovely shape with good body and bone. Houndy head. Lost out as reluctant to give on the move; 3 Cole’s Taree Yvette At Westonelee.

JB (18) 1 Lewis’ Trixhund Miss Marple. Loved this shapely b. Trifle high on hock but won on character and balance of neck to body. Good keel; 2 Hallett’s Loretto Black Mannaloushe. More compact than 1. Good body and coat and lovely neck. Just preferred outlook of 1; 3 Boynes’ Ballyell For Brindeckel.

NB (7) 1 Dance’s Emem Eartha Quake. More settled on the move than 2 and slightly longer cast. Sound; 2 Sharp’s Axters In The Red. Compact and nice standing, didn’t move quite as I would have expected; 3 Howard’s Stargang Xuberanle.

PGB (17) 1 Baldwin’s Beckel Bright And Fair. Nice name for an attractive b. Good length, outline and coat. Moved with some drive; 2 Scott’s Daisarch Something Special. Another well named girl. Excellent keel and outline. Trifle high on hock but moved well; 3 Marston’s Lordcairnie High N’Mighty.

LB (14) 1 and CC Angear’s Ridgegrove Gingham Doll. A complete picture. The shape I really go for. She was happy and sound with lovely outline. Good body and bone and moved with purpose. Because I am a sucker for bitches and she had slightly more length than the dog, BOB; 2 Corbishley’s Stargang Alice Springs. I reallyloved this b too. In fact it was a hard decision between her and 1. So many attributes the same. However, although she prostrated herself before me on every possible occasion it did back fir a little, she did enough though for me to see what she was capable of and earned her Res CC; 3 Rathbone’s Brialind Evita.

OB (16) 1 Angear’s Ridgegrove Tweed Doll. Litter sister I see to Limit winner and very like. Balanced feminine b with character; 2 Mueller’s Ch Rabymere Pooh Bare. A glorious coat and stacked so beautifully, just not as true on the move and a trifle high behind; 3 Blackburn’s Stargang Lauralee Land Of Song.

BRACE 1 Russell’s pair. As happy as Larry. I think they thought they were going home. As like as peas in a pod and going well together; 2 Smith’s. A very nice pair. Not quite as well matched as 1 and not quite doing the Brace thing.
