MINIATURE WIREHAIRED
It is nearly 3 years since I last judged Min Wires. I thank the
exhibitors for the lovely entry they gave me. The overall quality, I feel, is
probably slightly better than last time I judged. Underlines and straight
shoulders, along with toy type movement would be my main concern. We do need to
remember they are Hounds and should move as such. Temperaments were excellent
and mouths at long last are a lot better, which has obviously been achieved by
careful breeding, also there were fewer skinny exhibits, which is a huge plus.
When I judge I always judge the dogs that are in front of me on the day and not
any previous record or win that may have been achieved. Some of my placings may
have surprised certain individuals, but my judging is totally unbiased, and I
went home really happy with my decisions. I would like to add that there are a
handful of exhibitors who are very unsportsman-like in their attitude, and if we
are not careful, this behaviour will discourage any novices into the breed,
which hopefully is where the future of the breed lie. This is supposed to be a
hobby, and you are in danger of making it a battlefield. I could feel the
atmosphere around the ring, so please, you know who you are, take a look at
yourselves and make an effort to bring back the happy atmosphere that befits the
happy Miniature Wirehaired. I am aware that there is an issue on X Min Smooths
with Min Wires. I personally having bred a number of champions over many years,
think this would be a huge mistake, with all the hard work that has been done,
the gene pool in Min Wires has to be one of the best in all the varieties of
Dachshunds, you have dogs available from virtually all over the world, as well
as foreign bred dogs in this country. At this present time, Min Wires are pure,
why change this and bring in other problems and health issues from another
breed. Have confidence in your own, there are dogs out there, take a look, don’t
always go with current trends by using the dog of the moment, there may be one
that hasn’t been shown much but would ideally suit your lines, but there will be
one out there for you. It is not necessary to take a step back in time by
introducing another breed. Quite honestly, I think at this present time it would
ruin the breed.
PD(5) 1 Young &Otter’s Tarkus Windy Miller Portalutra. Liked this young
brindle lad, he has a touch of quality about him, lovely head and eye, well
placed shoulders, excellent reach of neck, held topline well on the move, given
the chance, should have a good future. Res CC. 2 McKenna’s Waldmeister Wee Man
At Tredreas. Brindle who needs time to settle and mature but has plenty of time
to do so. 3 Howell’s Fallowmill Car Key Cambell.
JD(4) 1 Barney’s Molloneys And Again Verrami. Nice type of youngster
who has correct head and eye, good reach of neck into well laid shoulders, held
topline well, moving truly coming and going. 2 Young &Otter’s Nordach Mr Muffin
Of Tarkus. Another nice one from this kennel with quality to offer the breed,
lovely dead leaf colour, which is rarely seen but to be admired. 3 Way’s Sudasam
Mayisujest.
PGD(4) 1 Price’s Samlane Tetley. Youngster who had the ladies
on his mind today but he has a beautiful head and eye, good neck and shoulders,
well kept topline standing and on the move, excellent coat and presentation. 2
Puckett’s Molloney Willy Wayme. Brindle, not the coat of first, nevertheless an
attractive boy who moved fairly. Oram’s Rosswell Luciano.
LD(5) 1 Hassall’s Sidelock Formula One. Brindle who caught the eye,
lovely head, good length of neck, neat well constructed shoulders, good topline,
fair underline, excellent coat, beautifully presented, moved ok. 2 Wilberg’s
Kanix Oscar. Brindle lad with virtues to admire, preferred the overall balance
of first. 3 Kugow &Holt’s Waldermeister Henry JW.
OD(4) 1 Horswell &Iwamas Ch &Jap Ch Drakesleat JPTrier Winshoten.
Quality from top to tail, super brindle, excellent outline, lovely head and eye,
neat well laid shoulders, strong angulated quarters which he uses on the move,
well ribbed body, here is a dog with so much to offer the breed. Learnt
afterwards that he sired my bitch CC winner. CC, BOB, Group 3. 2 Blackburn’s Ch
Stargang Malachite. Well known dog whose virtues have been praised on many
occasions, and I can see why. This exhibitor has won many awards from me in the
past but today I just preferred the type of my CC and Res CC. 3 Smith’s
Dunnspitt Zakajak.
PB(14) 1 Blackburn’s Stargang Jo Lo. Brindle young lady who
pleased me with her lovely head and expression, well angulated quarters, good
topline held fairly well on the move, plenty of bone, good wire jacket. BP. 2
Barney’s Verrami Ava Nuvver Romaunt. Younger than first but good overall quality
baby who, given time, should mature well. 3 Kugow &Holt’s Waldermeister Steffi.
JB(6) 1 Roberts’ Drakesleat Winnertakeall At Swansford. Attending her
first show with her new owner. What a smashing young lady she is, oozing
quality, beautiful head and eye, correct well laid shoulders, good top and
underline, neat front, true movement, well presented. This bitch should easily
make up this year given the chance. I was delighted to give her her first CC. 2
Hardy’s Kushwin Firefly. Nice type of bitch, unlucky to meet the young lady
above. 3 Hassall’s Sidelock Miss Deemena.
PGB(6) 1 Jones’ Bimini Rhythmn Blues. Liked this lady, she impressed me
with her overall balance, lovely outline both standing and on the move, good top
and underline, hammy quarters, excellent coat. 2 Howell’s Fallowmill Poca Hon
Tis. Another quality lady, unlucky to meet first. Many of the same remarks
apply, just not quite the underline. 3 Embury’s Dunnpitts Full Of Fun.
LB(13) 1 Horswell’s Drakesleat Knot On Yer Nelly. I absolutely loved
this bitch, just my type, really is from the top drawer, although she decided to
be a little difficult today. Her quality is there to see, had she shown better
would have been in my final two bitches. 2 Blackburn’s Stargang Beau Belle.
Another quality exhibit whose virtues are there to see but I just preferred the
type and topline of first. 3 Moate &Sebires Bouvee Brilliant.
OB(7) 1 Blackburn-Bennett’s Ch Stargang Kasino Kween. Lovely type of
bitch, very worthy champion but however, today was not in her best bib and
tucker so had to settle for Res CC. 2 Wilberg’s Kanix Mary. Dark brindle girl
who again is a nice type but just couldn’t match the movement of the first. 3
Holgate’s Drakesleat Gaysha Girl At Nadavin.
