DACHSHUND - MINIATURE WIRE HAIRED
I would like to thank the Crufts committee
for allowing me the honour of judging at Crufts 2012, also a huge thank you to
the exhibitors for the fantastic entry they gave me, I really enjoyed my day
and felt very welcome by the exhibitors, although obviously you cannot please
everyone when you judge. I would hope that you would be able to see that my
placings were honest, and as I saw the dogs on the day. I consider this the
only way to judge. I would like to mention that after I had finished judging,
my hands were filthy. For this there is no excuse, all exhibits should be clean
and well presented.
VD(5) 1 Moores' Danvichar Bergamont ShCM. Brindle boy coming up to 8,
who carries his years well. I see is sired by a Dalegarth dog, a kennel that I
always admired, he has a lovely head with the correct shaped eye and well
angulated shoulders, he was the best mover in the class covering the ground
well. 2 Glues' Brindeckel Furrari. Another boy enjoying his day out who will
also be 8 later this year. Today he had to give way to movement of first. 3
Banks &Douglas' Torabbi Welsh Malt ShCM. 11 year old who had to give way to age
today.
Sp PD(6) 1 Presnail's Taree Selwyn. Brindle little lad who has a lot
to like and is typical of the type that comes from this kennel. Lovely hound
head, neat shoulders, nicely angulated quarters, fair length of top ribbing
although to be critical, would prefer a longer underrib, moved ok although did
tend to pull away from his owner, which could give the impression of moving
wide behind, but he doesn't when he moves straight. 2 Billinghurst's Jiljac
Tsar Very Much. Only a youngster and has plenty of time on his side, needs time
to settle in his front movement but has a good outline in profile, his
shoulders are well set with good forechest, fair length of ribbing, he did tend
to stand cow hocked so this does need watching when you set him up. 3 Neates'
Beaucat Chedda George. Youngster who today didn't move well, front or back,
this could just be the atmosphere of the NEC, he is only young and things can
change.
Sp JD(5) 1 Fulton's Bothlyn Brigadoon. Brindle youngster who caught my
eye on entering the ring, he is quality all through from his head and correctly
shaped eye, lovely top and underline, excellent forechest, lacking in so many
today, well angulated quarters with a hammy back end, add to this true movement
both front and back, you have a very promising prospect for the future of the
breed. Res CC. 2 Kennel's Drakesleat Round Robin. Another promising young boy
who has plenty to admire, his movement in profile is excellent with no tummy
tapping, which seems to be creeping more and more into the breed and is not
befitting in a hound, excellent sweep of keel, good length of upper arm, well
angulated behind, just unlucky to come up against Brigadoon. 3 Jones' Bimini
King Of Swing. Brindle with lovely wire coat, nice type but today he was moving
very wide behind.
YD(5) 1 Hardy's Kushwin Incognito. Another young man who I really
liked and pushed hard for top honours, hopefully his day will come, he has the
best of heads, correct eye, adequate length of top and under rib, well rounded,
angulated quarters, neat shoulder placement with good forechest, moved freely.
2 Stephenson's Moloney Oh Oh Seven Von Wistex. Young man who has qualities to
admire, he has a good length of top rib but is slightly short of under rib,
well placed shoulders, nice round quarters, moved well at the front although
behind tended to pin in. 3 Hunt's His Terricle. Completed the trio of young
lads. Enjoying his day out but today could not match above on profile movement.
PGD(15) 1 Fulton's Bothlyn Brigadoon. 2 Hassall's Stargang Vegas
Strip. Quality boy who was unlucky to come up against Brigadoon. He has a
lovely sweep of keel with excellent shoulder placement, correct head and well
shaped eye, today just could not match the back movement. 3 Waldies Bothlyn
Symphony At Purslane. Litter brother to Brigadoon, and has many of the same
attributes, he has true movement front and back when he moves straight, but he
tended to pull to the side which gives the impression of pinning in at the
rear.
LD(10) 1 McDowell, Ernest &Blanche's Waldmeister Charlie Brown At
Aristodax. I liked this boy very much and was in the running for top honours.
His turn will come, he is very well constructed, good forechest, lovely head
and reach of neck, well laid shoulders, correct length of top ribbing,
although, to be critical, would prefer a slightly longer under rib, moved
freely front and back. 2 Kugow &Holt's Waldmeister Samuel JW. Has the same sire
as above, who obviously produces a strong type, he too has lots to admire,
attractive boy with plenty of length, excellent head and eye, correct shoulder
placement, moved well. 3 Adams' Angelholms Figaro. Completed a nice trio of
boys, very nice outline standing, just lost out on back movement which was very
wide today. Nevertheless a quality exhibit.
OD(11) 1 Calupa's Alpheratz Donrodrigo. I thought this boy
quite outstanding, I loved him as soon as he entered the ring I was drawn to
him for his sheer quality from top to tail, he has a gorgeous head and eye,
very well placed shoulders, so neat in front, excellent top and underline, well
rounded hammy back end, best of coats, presented to perfection, add to this
absolutely true hound free movement and you have a lovely dog. I was delighted
to award him CC. 2 Black's Bassondon Bilbie. Different type to above, however,
he has a lovely reach of neck into fairly well angulated shoulders, could do
with longer ribbing, nicely muscled back end which he used to his advantage on
the move, well presented. 3 Howells' Ch Fallowmill Back And Fetch. Worthy
champion, not his day today, for me he lacks length of rib.
GCD(3) 1 Puckett's Foxearth Free As A Bird. 2 Banks &Douglas' Torabbi
Welsh Malt. 3 Baxter's Hotwire Didja Ever.
VB(4) 1 Oram's Janjac Moschino At Rosswell. 8 year old enjoying her
day out, she won this class today on her better movement than the two below
her, although she could do with a shade more weight on her. 2 Miller's Pulsuz
Dream Time. Another 8 year old, well presented coat, nice head and eye, just
did not move well today, enjoyed her day though. 3 Neates' Custardcream At
Beaucat. 8 years old, sweet little girl but today she looked like she would
sooner be at home in bed!
Sp PB(12) 1 Dance's Enem Candy Sunshine. Feminine young lady, neat and
compact, charming head and eye, good forechest, topline and underline, nicely
angulated quarters, good feet, presented very well, moved true front and back,
should have a promising future. BP. 2 Blackburn Bennett's Stargang Czarina. Red
young lady who has lots of qualities to see, she has the sweetest of heads with
the correct shaped eye, lovely top and underline with ample top and under rib,
excellent sweep of keel, good, well presented wire coat, she moved very well in
front but today she seemed to be pinning in behind, which lost her the class. 3
Rees &Jones' Hanishan Eau Symfonique At Kierpark. Completed a good trio of
young ladies, nice shaped bitch who needs a little more time to mature on then
she will trouble the best.
Sp JB(6) 1 Bustas' Irma La Douce Vitoraz. Quality brindle lady, good
head, neck and front, excellent layback of shoulder, fair length of ribbing,
adequate hind angulation, moved true front and back, should have a promising
future. 2 Lancaster &Miller's Pellismer Deals A Winner. Another promising
youngster, unlucky to meet first today for she has lots to like, lovely
shoulder angulation, good reach of forechest, well angulated back end,
excellent front movement, just lost out today on back movement which was
turning in. 3 Baxter's Hotwire All Shook Up. Very nice bitch, well presented,
needs a little more time to come to her potential.
YB(11) 1 Morrison's Stargang Dusky Maiden To Benzden. Liked this
brindle girl for her sheer quality, feminine with excellent forechest, good
reach of neck into well laid shoulders, nice length of top and under rib,
carried herself well on the move and was true front and back. Was considered
for the Res CC, only just pipped to the post by Lady Gaga. 2 Marton-Teal's
Lordscairnie Love Life. Delightful girl who handled very well, nice coat well
presented, good head and eye, little short in upper arm for me, otherwise she
presented a good picture both standing and on the move. 3 Barney's Verrami
Domestic Goddess. Standing this lady gives a good outline, on going over I
would prefer longer length of both top and under rib, she has well angulated
quarters and a strong back end, moved fairly well.
PGB(16) 1 McLeod &Hassall's Janjac Mac Zeen. Loved this lady for her
true Dachshund type, pleasing in head, neck and topline, deep body with ribs
reaching far back, good shoulder lines, moved with purpose and perfectly true
front and back. 2 Fulton's Bothlyn Wild Rose. Same mum as Brigadoon and has
many of his attributes, she has a lovely, well presented coat with excellent
shoulder placement and reach of forechest, ample length of ribbing, well
muscled quarters used very well on the move, her profile movement is quite
eyecatching and she is true front and back. 3 Blackburn-Bennett's Stargang
Fudge Cake. Another nice one from this kennel, however, today she pinned in at
the front and was not quite true behind, this can change on another day.
LB(11) 1 Harker & Hatzikatis Hadoka Tula Sparkle. Very sound exhibit,
well constructed, nicely balanced throughout, good head and well shaped eye,
excellent reach of neck, running into well placed angulated shoulders, nice
length of top and under rib, hammy back end, used to advantage on the move,
which was very true and free front and back. 2 Meredith's Deepdax Credit
Crunch. Well balanced, good depth of keel, well let down hock, moved well in
front, just pulled out in back movement today, otherwise a quality exhibit. 3
Price's Samlane Zaffiro. Attractive brindle, good length and depth of body,
just preferred the hind angulation of the two above.
OB(16) 1 Wright's Ch Drakesleat Miss Wisteria. Left no doubt in my
mind, she was the winner as soon as she entered the ring, what a little cracker
she is, tremendous quality and soundness, exquisite head on reachy neck, deep,
long ribcage reaching far back, well angulated shoulders, excellent hammy
quarters with well let down hocks, standing all four square, her profile
movement is a dream and front to back she is very sound, presented well by her
new owner. I wish him all the best in the States with her , sure they will love
her too. I was delighted to award her CC and BOB. Well done. 2
Blackburn-Bennett's Ch Stargang Lady Gaga. Another lovely lady who had a change
of handler, not sure why, but she obviously benefitted from this. She is very
feminine, neat and compact, charming head and eye, excellent layback of rib,
well angulated quarters, hammy all square back end, very sound on the move
front and back, unlucky to meet the above today, was pushed all the way by the
yearling winner but pleased to award her Res CC. 3 Fulton's Ch Bothlyn Penny
Black. A very worthy champion, just finished with a litter and all credit to
her owner for getting her back in time for Crufts, she has many outstanding
virtues to admire, just beaten by two lovely bitches today.
GCB(2) 1 Miles' Runnrange Ophelia With Jaybiem. 2 Baxter's Hotwire
Magic Midge.
