I had a very enjoyable day judging mini wires at the Dachshund Club of Wales Champ Show .It was a well organised show, with a friendly atmosphere, and the hospitality was excellent.
I found that the breed had improved since the last time I judged them, and I was very pleased with my top winners as they were all excellent examples of this variety. Unfortunately, there were just a few questionable mouths with regard to the incisors and bites, and some dogs had dirty teeth .Please exhibitors, keep your dogs’ teeth clean from the beginning, and then the problem never arises. Dogs with dirty teeth will never win top honours. I found the coats very good on the whole, but some exhibitors need to learn how to strip and trim them properly, so as not to detract from the overall outline of the dog.

1st. Thorn Andrews Drakesleat Win Tin Tin.
What a lovely dog to start the day for me and set the standard for the rest. He was soundly constructed, compact and well balanced all through, and had correct angulation on the front and back ends; he had an excellent head and mouth, with a good reach of neck, leading to well laid shoulders, and sound firm ribbing. I loved his correct proportions all through and as he moved, his outline was excellent as he drove round, and his coat was correct. Pleased to award him the CC.
2nd. Lewis’ Trixhund Beluga.
Different type from 1,narrower and higher, but should body up as he matures. Nice front and ribbing, with good head . Moved well.
Post Grad Dog. 1 Entry.
1st. Hayward’s Taree Scoville At Wirefusion.
Nice head, teeth and good coat. Ribbing was excellent but rather upright in shoulder placement for me .Moved briskly.
Limit Dog. 5 Entries.
1st Hassalls Stargang Vagas Strip.
Lovely compact hound of the type I like , with excellent construction all through. Lovely head with good carriage and correct teeth .Ribbing came well back, shoulder placement was excellent. Angulation was correct with firm quarters and movement was true and balanced, Presentation was perfect. Was pleased to award him the RCC.
2nd.Blackburns’Stargang Crusoe.
Sound quality dog, well made all through again, with good head, and excellent front construction, with ribbing reaching well back. Very compact , a shade narrower than 1 coming towards, but very nice.

Delightful little 7 yr old bitch of super type and so well put together.Nice head leading to correct front construction with good ribbing.Lovely quarters with well angulated hocks, looking a picture as she went around the ring.
2nd. Miller’s Palsuz Dream Time.
8 yr old bitch, nicely constructed all through, and moved so well enjoying herself all the way, but she would be even better if she lost just a little weight on her midriff.

Minor Puppy Bitch. 4 Entries.

Super bitch who stole the show in this class, with her mature attitude, and correct construction and coat .Looked a picture on the move. Hard to fault and so balanced. BPIB, BPIS.
2nd Billinghurst’s, Drakesleat Scent Sueall for Jiljac.
Found it a little hard to separate these two lovely girls at first, and afterwards found they were sisters. Another well constructed bitch in all departments ,who will soon learn to stand still on the back end. Moved so well in this class.
3rd. Gouldings’ Jiljac Patsi Cline.
Puppy Bitch. 4 Entries.
1st. Passey’s Braybon Krystal Moon To Cagebrook.
