It must have been a great disappointment to Dachshund exhibitors having me to judge in place of Frank Kane, especially in Min Wires as I judged them at Belfast last year. It is never easy for show committees to replace a judge at the last moment & I thank the exhibitors for being so sporting. I shall be in touch with Frank to talk about the day. I understand that he is feeling much better. I thought the bitches scored on this occasion.
PD (4) 1 Rose’s Ridanflight Rafferty, good head, nice neck, shoulders & keel, pleasing outline, good coat texture for a baby of under 7 months, moved with reach & drive; 2 Dance’s Walkmeister Rova To You Emem, neater than 1, good bone, nice body & ribs, good head & eyes, I preferred 1 in forechest & on the move but both are very young & much will change. JD (3) 1 Boyns’ Brindeckel Diamond Geezer, looked better & better as the class went on, has plenty of character & this showed in his eyes & expression, nice coat, neat legs, good feet; 2 Black’s Bassodon Westwood, I liked him to go over but was a touch apprehensive & so lacked the expression of 1. Perhaps a little too much stop but good strength in foreface & jaw, excellent coat texture, good keel, legs & feet, nice hindquarters. LD (3) 1 Kugow & Holt’s Waldmeister Samuel; 2 Hassall & McLeod’s Stargang Vegas Strip, a contrast here with 1 a touch on the big side & 2 rather low to ground, 1 is a great show dog & made the most of himself standing & moving whereas 2 did not. 2 has good body & ribs & pleasing rump & croup. OD (5) 1 Blackburn’s Stargang Crusoe, looked the part moving & showing, went with reach & spirit but a little loose behind, pleasing head & expression, good forehand, touch long in loin, nice croup & thighs, good coat. CC; 2 Hassall & McLeod’s Ch Sidelock Formula One, charming dog, looks well for 6½ years, is basically well constructed but 1 had the edge in front, pleasing coat, good outline. RCC; 3 Phillips’ Curtisey Boogy Woogy.
PB (9) 1 Kugow & Holt’s Waldmeister Annie, very promising, good head, pleasing neck, shoulders & outline, well made hindquarters, moved & showed well. BP; 2 Billinghurst’s Drakesleat Scent Sueall for Jiljac, neat, feminine, nice neck, shoulders & outline, good thighs, nice for balance; 3 Poxon’s Upto Mischief Diervilla via Kapodach. JB (6) 1 Morris’ Stargang Quintina at Pennywave, nice to go over, good head & eyes, nice forehand, good topline, well made hindquarters, enjoyed herself & when she settled moved well; 2 Rathbone’s Fraulein Giselle at Brialind, heavier in front & not quite the flow in outline but moved out well & firmly, strong hindquarters; 3 Jones’ Bimini Out Of The Blue. PGB (9) 1 Hayward’s Foxearth Fatma Salkan, very nice wheaten, good head, pleasing neck, shoulders & front, good coat, well made hindquarters but would keep sinking, moved out well; 2 Blackburn’s Banburg Black Opal at Stargang, when she behaved looked very well, particularly good hindquarters, nice bone, legs & feet, moved with drive; 3 Marston-Teal’s Lordscairnie Look Of Love. LB (8) 1 Dance’s Emem Candy Sunshine, very pleasing uncomplicated bitch, nicely balanced, pleasing head & eyes, good forehand, very nice hindquarters, moved well; 2 Howells’ Fallowmill On The Button, nice head & expression, good body, ribs carried well back, good coat, nice width in thighs; 3 McLeod & Hassall’s Janjac MacZeen. OB (6) 1 Marston-Teal’s Ch Lordscairnie Love Life, lovely bitch, good head, very pleasing over the neck, shoulders, topline & hindquarters, good coat & condition, moved & showed well. CC & BOB; 2 Poxon’s Kapodach Cup Cake, I also liked very much & I see she is a half-sister of 1 who scored over the loin. Good over the haunches, moved & showed well, coat in good condition. RCC; 3 Barney’s Verrami Domestic Goddess.
