Thank you for the invitation to judge my favourite variety of dachshunds at this super show. Also thanks to my two lady stewards.
Great pity that paignton was on the following day. However, a good entry for the present time. I was shocked to find such a deterioration in the last three years from my last appointment. Having shown, bred and judged for over 30 years. My opinion is that the breed is going back wards apart from a few kennels. Out of 15 males only six were of the quality and soundness that is required. 50% of the entry was close in front. bowed and toeing in behind. Short upper arms are also prevalent. Many teeth were filthy. especially canines. Mouths have improved somewhat, also coats in the majority. Bitches were much better overall, even then many otherwise lovely girls were close in front and bowed and toed in behind. Only a couple of shy ones. The puppies were a delight especially the Minor Puppies. So happy. Much prefer this than a cardboard cutout. My Top and ain winners pleased me very much.
Minor Puppy Dog (2

1st: Howells, Fallowmill Sydney TAF
What a nice start. Very
promising boy, Just right for his age. Happy Temperament, Masculine Head.
Correct construction throughout. Moves freely with a good topline. Just needs
maturity only 6 1/2 months. Lovely BPD
2nd: Feetham, Kimbleholme Jackpot
Good head, Shade longer
than 1. Cuts up a shade. Covers the ground when moving. Just needs to tighten
in front and behind at the moment, but very young. Hopefully will come with
maturity.

1st: Jones, Bimini Starstruck
One I have admired from
ringside, just my type. Another by my BOB winner, good shoulders and ribbing.
Well angulated quarters. Very attractive profile on moving. Just a shade close
in front today.
Junior Dog (3 Entries) Abs: 0
This was a difficult
class as they were all close coming towards me.
1st: Lewis, Bastlefords Toffee Crips At Trixhund
Very pleasing red/br, with a super coat. Well angulated shoulders, Strong backend. Looked well moving keeping a good topline. Would prefer better front movement, but overall a nice boy.
2nd: Spence & Kirkwood-Emery, Helydon Goharley At Cicada
Br. Masculine Head. Good
layback of shoulder but would prefer more length of upperarm. Again movement
was fine until coming towards me, too close I'm afraid.

1st Lewis, Bastlefords Toffee Crips At Trixhund
2nd Hunt, Earthsea's Billy The Kid
Br. with a decent coat. Strong well angulated hindquarters. His shoulders are
not correct subsequently he lost his front on moving. However he was one of the
few who moved with width coming towards me.
Post Graduate Dog (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: Nicholson, Eastriding Attimo at Kingsheath
Very dark brindle with a coat of really good texture. Unfortunately another one
with incorrect shoulders and straight front.
Limit Dog (4 Entries) Abs: 0
A much better Class.
1st: Thorn Andrews, Drakesleat Hostile Takeova
Well constructed male.
Typical type from this kennel. Decent front, shoulder of correct angles. Reacy
neck and well carried back ribbing. A little unsettled at first on moving but
settled well covering plenty of ground. Shade lower to ground than my CC winner
but a pleasing Dog. RCC
2nd: Barney, Verrami En Trac
This boy was one of the
few who did not falter with the very uneven ground. Shade taller than 1. Typy
with a decent layback of shoulder. Ribbing is carried well back. Moved well
with decent hind width but a shade close in front.
3rd: Grant, Barratini Ted Astaire at Granhoward
Open Dog (2 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: Rose, Ch Ridanflight Ricardo
Light/Br. Beautifully
presented with lovely harsh tight coat. Excellent bone all through. I have
admired this lovely dog from his first appearance. Lovely head with an arrogant
expression. Well filled front. Correct shoulders, no short upper arm here. His
front and rear movement is an example for soundness. Good width all through.
Coped well on the uneven ground. CC & BOB
2nd Stancliffe, Portalutra Mr Thomas Of Tarkus
Lot to Like. Handsome head, shade taller than 1. Free mover but sadly too
close in front.
Veteran Dog (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: Black, Ch Bassodon Bilbie
So pleased to be able to go over this lad. He is looking super, still worthy of
winning CC's. Unfortunately as with many of the lovely bitches i only had 1CC
and 1 RCC. Satisfying to go over. In immaculate coat and body condition.
Pleasing front and lengthy ribbing. Well angulated rear which have strong
correct movement. He covered the ground and showed the youngsters how it should
be done.
Minor Puppy Bitch (9
Entries) Abs: 1
Lovely Class of babies. Such fun to judge. All had lovely happy temperaments.
Also although very young, width front and rear seems to be much better than
most.
1st: Morris, Pennywave Uptown Girl
7 mths, Such a delightful
baby. Just my cup of tea. Lovely size for age and although her coat needs to
fully come through, it is the correct texture. Very drk/br, wonderful feminine
head with expression. Well filled front, lovely length of neck leading into
correct shoulders and length of ribbing. Correctly angulated hindquarters. She
moved with style and freedom for one so young. Shall watch her career with
interest. BPIB Quite a close decision between her and the dog puppy.
2nd: Dyer, Dyer & Oddie, Banburg Svetlana At Sharnphilly
9 mths, Another promising
girl, very good conformation all through. Pretty head. Moved freely with verve
keeping a good topline at all times.
3rd: Price, Samlane Cressida
Puppy Bitch (7 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: Blackburn, Stargang Liberty Belle
More lovely girls.
Hopefully will all breed on. Light Br. Very typical happy puppy from this old
established kennel. Super front and shoulders. Ribbing well sprung and carried
well back. Keeps a good outline at all times. A shade out of coat at the
moment but this is only temporary. Promising.
2nd: Daykin, Barratini Hot Stuff
Drk/Br Very attractive
puppy. Super coat very well presented. Not too big and very feminine.
Pleasing conformation, although would prefer a touch more front. Looked well on
the move, although did not like the ground at all. When she settled she
presented a nice picture.
3rd: Hopper, Arbennik Sootalina at Brynfaw
Junior Bitch (7 Entries) Abs: 0
More typical promising
bitches.
1st: Russell, Russteck So Fair A Dream
Just out of puppy. What
a cracker. Loved her. Rich Br. Immaculate harsh coat which this kennel seems
to excel in producing. Such a lovely size, well boned. Very well developed
front, well angulated shoulders. Super head carriage when moving. Showed like
a veteran. Her movement is an example to aim for. Very well done.
2nd: Thorn Andrews, Drakesleat Win Da Mere
Love the names this exhibitor makes up. Typical typy girl. Very promising. She has an excellent front and rear. Good width all through. Not as happy with the ground as 1 but very sound.
3rd: Morris, Pennywave
Top Totti
Special Beginner Bitch (1 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: Clements. Blidworth Beauty
Almost black, good shoulders and neckline. Would prefer a better underline.
Excellent coat texture. Looked well moving in profile. But Toes in hind
movement unfortunately.
Post Graduate Bitch (8 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: Kirkwood & Kirkwood, Helydon Fabulous Freya
Light Br. Quite taken
with this girl, not noticed her before. Needs to carry less weight as until you
go over her she appears stuffy in neck. Also her coat is of excellent texture
but rather long. On examination she is very pleasing. So sound and well
boned. Lovely oval front. Correct head, Shoulders and ribbing. Keeps a lovely
shape on moving. One of the minority that excels in movement. Good hind and
not close in front like many.
2nd: Blackburn, Stargang Compania Faberge
Another pleasing typy
girl from this kennel. Well developed front and follow through of ribbing.
Pretty head. Correctly angulated both ends. Really covers the ground when
moving. Coat not as harsh as 1.
3rd: Marston-Teal, Lordscairnie Rhythm Of Love
Limit Bitch (4 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: Hayward, Foxearth Fatma Salkan
Loved this feminine red
girl. Such a friendly happy dachshund. Tail never stopped wagging. Super
coat, lovely size. Well filled front, correct ribbing and strong quarters.
Correctly angulated shoulders. Well handled and a sound mover.
2nd Morris, Banburg Black Opal at Stargang
Attractive bitch,
pleasing all through, correct mover in profile and going away but shade close
coming towards me. Didn't appreciate the ground as much as 1st.
3rd Mobley, Jakanem What You Will
Open Bitch (8 Entries) Abs: 0
1st: Thorn Andrews, Ch Drakesleat Scent Sybil
Well known lady. So
feminine, really well constructed and very pleasing to go over. One of those
which when you go over them just flows from head to tail. Excellent front.
Shoulders are well angulated. Lengthy neck, correct topline. Drives out and
covers the ground well. Width good going and coming to me. For BOB the dog
just had a little extra 'look at me'. A lovely girl indeed.
2nd Russell, Russteck I Dreamed A Dream
Same way bred as her
kennel mate to whom I awarded the Res CC. Quality all through. Have admired
her many times and she is another I would have gladly awarded a CC. She had a
battle with her kennel mate and nit picking. Thought her a shade longer in the
challenge. But nothing to take away from her. Superb coat texture and
presentation. So soundly made and looked a picture moving. Surely her day must
come.
