Thank you to the Committee for my invitation to judge, I enjoyed my day. Some general observations: I was shocked by the number of exhibits that had dirty teeth even on some of the younger dogs. Hard crisp coats were very much in the minority and some of the dogs shown really needed a good brush and comb which would have improved them. What I did find alarming is how many of the exhibits shown were nervous and worried. This definitely affected some exhibits movement as they scuttled round the ring. This is something that needs addressing, I quote from the breed standard ‘bold defiant head carriage and intelligent expression: lively, courageous to the point of rashness’. Some of the dogs shown under me today had clearly never read that bit! As someone who has owned a miniature that had those characteristics, it is such a tragedy that some of these wonderful little dogs have been reduced to quivering wrecks!

Vet D/B (1)

1st. Kirkwood’s Ubu Isla at Helydon. Brindle bitch handled by a very junior handler! 8yr s with nice type, her coat was good enough texture, padded feet, had enough fore chest, feminine head, her hindquarters were OK and she moved soundly enough. BVIB.

GCD. (0)

MPD (5, 1 abs)

1st Jones’ Bimini Hot Chocolate, Harsh coated deep choc/tan, lovely shape although still a bit rangy as to be expected at this age, fabulous masculine head with a good eye shape and colour, Excellent bone. Has prominent fore chest, would benefit from a shade more rib and has correct hindquarters. He moved a touch close in front but very sound in the rear. He needed several circuits of the ring to settle into his frame. Liked him very much. BPD & RCC

2nd Garrity’s Russteck Wyred for Sound at Macushia. Brindle with excellent coat and wonderful temperament, taller type. Well-proportioned head with good forequarters, well ribbed, shade straight in rear, very difficult to assess movement as he and his handler need to get it together but he did enough for his place.

PD (1)

1st Thorn-Andrews Drakesleat The Real Thing. Brindle, beautiful head with lovely dark eye, correctly angulated fore and rear quarters, well ribbed with excellent body, not moving well as he was a bit overawed by proceedings!

JD (4,2 abs)

1st Hayward & Howell’s Fallowmill Cambera. Brindle with lovely type. Super temperament, excellent coat, good bone and feet, has enough fore chest with well laid shoulder, good body and ribs, shade straight in hind end, moved soundly and he presented a better outline.

2nd Rigby’s Waldmeister George. Good coated brindle with lovely head. He would benefit from more fore chest and could be better in hindquarter and topline.

YD (5) Difficult class

1st Thorn-Andrews Drakesleat JP Once in a Blue Moon, this dog has lovely balance and shape, with good fore and hindquarters. Beautiful head, brindle coat could be harsher. His problem is that he lacks confidence which affected his movement.

2nd Jones’ Bimini Starstruck. Fabulous coat, lovely shape, super feet and bone, well ribbed, preferred the overall make of 1st.

PGD (3, 1 abs)

1st Kirkwood-Emery & Spence Helydon Goharley. Dark coated brindle, head OK, prominent fore chest, little heavy over shoulder, well bodied with well-constructed hind end. Moved a shade close in front.

2nd Hunt’s Earthsea Billy the Kid. Good coated brindle, different type to 1 being a shade narrower and higher on leg. Touch fine in bone and rather straight in hindquarter, could do with more ribbing and needs to settle in topline.

LD (4, 2abs)

1st Grant’s Barratini Ted Astaire at Granhoward. Dark brindle that needs more confidence. Lovely shape and moved out well, good angles fore and rear, well ribbed with good depth of body.

2nd Dance’s Waldmeister Rova to You Emem . Lovely temperament on this excellently coated light brindle. Masculine head, eye a touch round. Prefer a shade more fore chest and more layback of shoulder and felt he was a shade upright in the rear. Moved out soundly.

OD (1)

1st Rose’s Ch Ridanflight Ricardo, light brindle, wonderful type, superb coat, presented to perfection. Masculine head with intelligent eye, strong neck running into correctly laid shoulders, strong bone and lovely feet, well ribbed up with excellent body condition, correctly angulated hindquarters with good tailset. Clearly a super stud dog; several very nice offspring were shown here! I couldn’t find anything to fault him, DCC with something to spare, BOB and delighted to see him go BIS.

MPB (4)

1st Fulton’s Bothlyn Miss Money Penny. Fabulous harsh coated 6 mth dark brindle. Very pretty head, prominent fore chest, long neck, correctly angulated front and rear, long ribs, good bone and feet. This was her 1st outing and she was a little overawed and looked better moving than stacked but she did more than enough to win BP, RBCC and thrilled to see her go BPIS. This was the one I would have taken home!

2nd Billinghurst’s Drakesleat Never Say Die. Lovely shape on this brindle whose coat could be harsher. Lovely head and eye, has enough bone, lovely neck and well laid shoulder, well ribbed, hindquarters OK and she moved out well. 2 very nice bitches.

PB (8, 1abs)

1st Thorn-Andrews Drakesleat Stitch in Time. Light brindle, could do with harsher coat but is beautifully made, lovely head, as are all from this kennel, correct fore and hind quarter construction, good feet and bone. Correct topline and well ribbed, she moved out soundly and confidently.

2nd Meredith’s Deepdax Let’s Dance. Close decision between this beautiful dark brindle and the first, she has many of her attributes and looked better moving than stacked. If she had shown a touch more boldness the places may have been changed!

JB (9,2 abs)

1st Fulton’s Bothlyn Dancing Queen. Dark choc/tan with wonderful coat. Has a lovely eye colour with a very pretty head. Wonderful feet, prominent fore chest, well laid shoulder and good upperarm, lovely neck, well ribbed, correct hindquarters. Kept a beautiful outline when moving, she just needs a shade more confidence but her lovely construction won her this place.

2nd Howell’s Fallowmill Top of the Class. Lovely type and temperament as are all from this kennel. Very nicely shaped bitch with feminine head, good forequarters, well bodied and super hindquarters. Moved out soundly. Unlucky to meet 1 who I fell for!

YB (7,2 abs)

1st Morris Pennywave Uptown Girl JW. Pretty brindle bitch. Her head is OK, she could do with a shade more upperarm, has prominent fore chest, well ribbed, well angulated hind end, moved out soundly.

2nd Selley’s Ubu Belarus Nahla to Heleanne, I really liked this excellently coated dark brindle girl, she has lovely type and shape, pretty head and eye, good angles front and rear, lovely feet, perhaps a shade more ribbing but sadly threw it away on the move as she needs more confidence.

PGB (6)

1st Morris Pennywave Top Totti JW ShCM. Well balanced dark brindle, lovely head, good neck and shoulder, enough fore chest, good bone & feet, well angulated hindquarters, good tailset, well bodied and moved soundly.

2nd Blackburn’s Stargang Compania Faberge, harsh coated brindle who was in full coat, lovely breed type, head OK, feet could be tighter and she could do with more ribbing. Prominent fore chest and well angulated hindquarters, she moved out soundly

LB (7, 1 abs) This was a close decision.

1st Price’s Samlane Belleza JW, feminine head, brindle coat could be harsher and perhaps a shade more fore chest, has lovely ribbing and well angulated hind quarter, well bodied. Won this place on her lovely free movement.

2nd Jones Bimini From Russia With Love Brindle of similar type, good head, nicely angles front and back, well bodied, feet OK, shade cut up underneath although she moved soundly prefer the movement on the first.

OB (6,1 abs)

1st Thorn-Andrews Drakesleat Win Da Mere, brindle, very well balanced, beautiful head and eye, lovely neck and well laid shoulder and good upper arm. Well ribbed body with well angulated hind end. She moved out very soundly with confidence. CC, her 3rd her owner told me.

2nd Howells’ Fallowmill on the Button. Lovely type, would prefer a tad more fore chest, feet and bone OK, good body and ribs with good hind end. Moved out soundly.
