would like to thank the committee for this appointment.
I enjoyed my
day with you. Thanks also to my steward who kept my ring running
smoothly.
In general I felt that the min wires had not improved since I last judged
them 3 years ago in fact I think type is even more varied than it was
then. Mouths were on the whole reasonable although at least one had
very dirty teeth which is unacceptable. The hall was very noisy and cold
whether this affected temperaments and movement I don’t know but
many were quite skittish and trying to assess movement when they are
crabbing and scuttling around the ring is very difficult and some paid the
price. I felt many lacked correct dachshund heads with round eyes and
short ears and the ribbing on many left a lot to be desired . Many were
upright in shoulder and lacked upper arm which gave them very straight
fronts. As judges we are required by the KC to make decisions about
the breed we are judging and I did therefore withhold 2nd and 3rd in Limit
dog. I felt that in a limit class you should expect the dogs presented to
be of some quality and as this is also a Crufts qualifier as a judge I
should be happy for them to go forward with my name behind them in
this case I did not feel I could do this but this was not a decision taken
lightly.
I always look for the same thing when judging – balance and breed type
laced with a touch of class and I felt I achieved that with my main
winners. I was also pleased with the sporting way my decisions were
greeted.
2
Veteran Dog/bitch 5(2). 1, Dances’ Emem All Het Up. Compact bitch
that is 10 years young. Nice type and balance who out moved many of
the younger exhibits. Good breed type. Lovely happy temperament
which showed in her free flowing movement Res CC. 2.Walkers’
Deepdax In The Red At Roselle. Rangier bitch but still good type.
Preferred hind movement of 1.3 .Ward-Blowers’Willowmist Brown Sugar.
Minor Puppy Dog. 7(1). 1. Roses’ Kmai Konundrum At Ridanflight (Imp
RI) Smart young dog with good head and reach of neck who moved out
with verve. Would prefer longer ribbing but a promising puppy. 2. Thorn-
Andrews’ Alncroft Over The Moon Drakeleat. Compact dog with more
ground clearance and not as mature as winner. Would prefer better
layback of shoulder and length of upper arm.3.Clares Lordscairnie Love
God.
Puppy Dog 6(3). 1. Kugow & Holts’ Waldmeister Aldo.Took my eye as
soon as he entered the ring. Lovely type with wonderful head and eye
with kind expression. Excellent bone with tight feet (rare). Correct coat
and very well presented. Good conformation which meant he moved true
fore and aft holding his outline at all times with that touch of class I look
for the icing on the cake. CC and BP.2.Morris’ Pennywave Pole Position
tidy puppy who can only improve with maturity. At the moment slightly
loose in elbow and did not stride out as well as class winner. 3.Flowers
& Smith’ Vostock-Zaped Viking For Bingobongo.
Junior Dog 1. Haywards Foxearth Filharmonic Good breed type with
excellent coat texture. Correct head but could have tighter elbows and
longer ribbing. Moved out well holding profile at all times.
Yearling Dog 3(1). 1.Thorn-Andrews On The Nod –Nice type of dog that
was clearly unsettled by the noisy hall. Nice head and better shoulders
3
and therefore better front than many. Moved out well when the noise
quieted a bit. 2.Garitys’ Russteck Wyred For Sound At Macushia.
Rangier dog with happy temperament. Slightly straight behind and
longer in hock which affected his hind movement.
Post Graduate Dog. 4(1).Grants’ Granhoward Edward Very Dark
brindle with good coat and correct head shape with kind expression.
Preferred his overall balance and he moved true fore and aft. 2.Rigbys’
Waldmeister George. Lighter brindle with reasonable head and neck but
rather upright in shoulder which did affect his movement. 3.Hayward &
Howells Fallowfield Cambera.
Limit Dog. 4(1).Spence & Kirkwood Emerys’ Helydon Goharley At
Cicda. Good head and neck with longer ribbing than many which helped
him retain his topline at all times. Moved out well. 2 & 3 witheld
Open Dog. 5(1). 1. Roses’ Ridenflight Ricardo. Quality masculine
workmanlike dog with many attributes. Excellent coat and put down to
perfection. Lovely head and eye and holding correct outline at all times.
Outgoing temperament which showed in his proud head carriage and
positive movement. Res CC. 2. Thorn-Andrews JP Once In A Blue
Moon. Another quality dog with good overall type and balance not giving
of his best on the move today.3.Grants’ Barratini Ted Astaire At
Granhoward.
Minor Puppy Bitch.9(3). This was a very difficult class to judge as
many of these youngsters were upset in the noisy all and consequently
many did not move freely.1.Blacks’ Bassodon Dodecahedron overall
better balance and type with good coat and well presented. 2. Ashtons’
Kmai Magin Roundabout At Willowlawn (IKC)Nice type with good ribbing
and balance. Coat could be harsher.3.Jones Bimini Blue Moon.
Puppy Bitch 4(1). Marston-Teals’ Lordscairnie Moon Over Love. Nice
type of bitch very feminine with good neck and reasonable shoulders
4
needs to tighten in elbow but this could come with maturity.2. Clements
Springdac Red Siren. Red with quite harsh coat. Longer in hock than
winner and more immature which did affect topline. Overawed by the
occasion which affected her movement.3.Flowers & Smith Crème De La
Crème Sandra Bullock.
Junior Bitch.2. 1. Haywards’ Foxearth Fabracadabra. Smaller finer
hard coated red with good pro sternum and layback of shoulder. Nice
tight feet which was unusual. Moved out with purpose.2.Kirkwood
Emerys’ Helydon Jinglebells. Rangier bitch who carried her tail very high
which affected her topline on the move.
Yearling Bitch 8(2). 1. Merediths’ Deepdax Lets Dance. Lovely bitch
with everything to like. Well balanced not overdone anywhere. Good
angulation at both ends which allowed for parallel movement both
coming and going she maintains a lovely outline at all times. Topped by
beautiful head with soft expression. Excellent coat and so well put down.
Would easily have won dog judge would most like to take home. CC and
BOB. 2.Daykins Barratini Chatters similar remarks apply a very nice
bitch just felt winner had the edge on hind angulation. 3.Billinghursts’
Drakesleat Never Say Die.
Post Graduate Bitch.13(6). 1. Thackwrays’ Dathack’s Perfect Diamond.
Good coated bitch with best overall balance. Well handled to get the
best out of her. 2. Merediths’ Deepdax Perrie pushed winner hard and
similar remarks apply just preferred overall picture of class winner.
3.Selleys’ Ubu Belarus Nahla To Heleanne.
Limit Bitch. 9(2). This was a difficult class with many different types and
not all were giving of their best and many seemed unsettled.
1.Billinghursts Drakeleat Mrs Shilling For Jiljac JW Best overall balance
and breed type won her the class. 2. Morris Pennyweave Top Totti JW
Sh CM. Another nice bitch with good breed type a close decision
between 1 & 2 just preferred overall picture of winner.3. Hamblings
Tythe Idaho.
Open Bitch.8(3). Another difficult class with some close decisions. 1.
Kellys Ir Ch Rioban Felt Finnish for Kmai JW IR JUNCH JD. Won this
class on her movement holding outline at all times. 2.Thorn-Andrews
Drakesleat Honour Roll. I liked this bitch but felt she lacked the head
type I was looking for but she didn’t move out as well as she could have
otherwise she would probably have topped the class. 3.Jones Bimini Out
Of The Blue.
