It was a pleasure to unexpectedly judge the miniature wires at this show but sad to have to replace Birgit Heywood who was suddenly taken ill that morning. Birgit had been given a good entry and I am pleased to say is making good progress. Thank you exhibitors for accepting my placings in such a good way under these circumstances. I haven't judged my variety since Crufts 2013 so all dogs were new to me. I was very pleased with my principal winners and in some classes it was a close decision between the first three. There were some very good younger exhibits which augers well for the breed. All dogs were clean but some exhibitors should pay more attention to presentation and exercising to gain muscletone. When planning a future breeding programme correct shoulders and hind angulation, enabling the desired rear driving movement, should be considered. Many exhibits looked great stacked but had stilted rear movement. I did take into consideration the slippery surface of the floor especially with the puppies. The majority were of the correct length to height ratio. No thin dogs, just three a few ounces over the required limit of 11 lbs. which I just took into consideration with the rest of my assessment. I would have been lost without the scales as some smaller looking dogs were well up to weight and vice-versa. Dogs of correct weight are part of the KC Breed Standard and have to be bred for just as good conformation. It can be done and has been done for decades with the guidance of the scales. Just look at the well boned, elegant higher placed exhibits today (and in the past) all Dachshunds in Miniature. *PD* (5,1) All promising puppies, will watch their progress with interest. 1 Thorn-Andrews Drakesleat Ivor Notion. Well muscled, 10 month quality puppy who took my eye when entering the ring. Great to go over, everything where it should be. Attractive head and eye, good reach of neck, shoulder placement, forechest, feet and low hocks. Correct angulation fore and aft and moved out confidently and smoothly keeping his lovely outline at all times. BPD Res DCC & RBPIS. 2 Russell's Russteck All Eyes on Me. An elegant harsh coated 11 month puppy of different type but nevertheless has many of the attributes of the winner but on the day just preferred the outline and overall movement of Ivor Notion. Plenty of time to develop and mature. 3 Crossman's Janter Clarion. *JD* (2) 1 Jones & Jones Carlita Sunrise Well covered and coated brindle. Good head and eye, front assembly, hind angulation and feet. Well rounded hindquarters and level topline standing and moving. Moved out well. 2 Vossen's Dajean's Happy Sunday. An immature, rangier young man with a lovely head and overall body proportions but didn't have the shoulders and front assembly of the winner and tended to fly his tail and slightly lose his topline on the move. *YD* (3) 1 Kirkwood-Emert's Ch Helydon Laird Loki. Harsh coated, well constructed brindle with good head, forechest and feet. Adequate shoulders and good topline and underline. Well developed hindquarters. Pleasing outline standing and moving. 2 Vossen's Dajean Happy Sunday. *PGD* (1) 1 Hayward & Howell's Fallowmill Cambera. Another harsh coated well covered brindle of good overall proportions. Pleasing head, good forechest and feet, adequate shoulders and well angulated at the rear. Moved out well with his handler but tended to lose his topline a tad on the move. Although he stood alone he well deserved his placing. *LD* (5) All different types in this class. 1 Kay's Kaytian Tempest over Haiti JW. Well boned, harsh coated red with attractive head, good front assembly and body proportions. Well sprung ribbing. Correct front and rear angulation which enabled him to move out freely and with drive keeping a good outline. Would advise his handler to carry out less baiting on the table as it excited him and I found it difficult to examine his mouth and head. Once the tit-bits were controlled he settled and showed himself off well. 2 Thorn-Andrew's Drakesleat Evan Sent. Another promising puppy from this kennel, litter brother to my Best Puppy, but needs time to develop and looked very immature compared with the winner. Lovely head and eye but not quite the shoulders of his brother and the winner of this class. Good bone and in well muscled condition for a youngster. Pleasing overall outline when standing but not so settled in movement, may have been the floor, but still deserved his placing. Lucky owner to have bred two such good puppies in the same litter. 3 Fulton's Bothlyn Super Trouper. *OD* (3) Certainly not quantity in this class but quality. Both owners should be proud. 1 Jones' Ch Bimini Starstruck. A quality, well presented good coated brindle with lovely masculine head and eye, good reach of neck, correct shoulders and well filled front. Well angulated front and rear and well rounded hindquarters. Good firm topline standing and moving. Moved out steadily and soundly with his handler. True dachshund in miniature and just my type. One to be proud of. DCC. 2 Russell's Heidelind's Kilt Cancan Russteck (Imp. Swe) Another attractive and good coated brindle of different type and make but although lovely to go over did not have the spring of rib or front assembly of Starstruck and also looked a little tucked up today. Lovely head and eye and good overall body proportions. A lot to offer but just needs to settle. *VD *(2) 1 Hayward's Taree Scoville at Wirefusion. 7 year old well muscled gentleman enjoying his day. Typical wire head, well balanced body and neat coat. Moved out well and enthusiastically. *MPB* (3) 1 Storton's Dearheath Helen Reddy. 8 month well presented happy puppy. Well schooled on the table and on the floor for one so young. Good head and overall body proportions and well angulated fore and aft. Moved out soundly retaining her lovely, well balanced outline. 2 Dance's Constance Sunshine. Another very happy and promising good coated 7 month brindle puppy who thought life was wonderful as she wagged her tail non stop. Good head and eye and spring of rib. Everything in the right place. Needs to settle to be able to show off all her attributes, especially when moving. 3 Powell's Forbell Special Performer. *PB* (5) Lovely class of puppies - little to choose between them. Different types.1 Morris' Stargang Peggy Sue at Pennywave. A quality 10 month well presented and handled puppy who showed her socks off for one so young but was a little unsettled when challenging for BP. Lovely feminine head and eye, good forechest, angulation topline and underline. Moved out soundly keeping a great outline. Liked her a lot. Will watch her progress. BPB. 2 Dance's Emem Summer Sunshine. Another bundle of fun from this kennel, litter sister to second in MPB and happiness personified. A little low for me but she has everything her sister has and looked lovely when stacked and also when moving when she settled. 3 Marston-Teal's Lordscairnie Love Island. *JB* (9) First two placings could change place any time. 1 Crossman's Janter Cinammon a 10 month puppy who did not look out of place in this class. 2 Ergis & Merry's Drakesleat Trial N Error. Both had a good head, adequate front, correct angulation front and rear and maintained a firm topline on the move and moved out well with their handler. Both very promising with very little to split them except I preferred Cinammon's rounded back end and hind movement. 3 Howell's Fallowmill Indian Runner. *YB* (3) Again two attractive bitches of different type. 1 Dance's Ch Emem Gloria Sunshine JW ShCM. Another exhibit from this kennel having fun and full of joy. Well made happy girl with good head, neck and shoulders, adequate front and long well sprung ribs, tight feet and chunky hindquarters. Moved out freely. 2 Crossman & Kennedy's Janter Bee Forever. A darker, finer boned exhibit built on lovely lines and looked a picture standing with everything going for her but unfortunately wouldn't cooperate with her handler on the move. Give her time to gain her confidence. *PGB* (5) Difficult class. 1 West's Byabye Brillare with Archidax. Unplaced in a strong Junior class but well deserved her placing here. Lots to like about her, good head and eye and rear angulation and general overall body construction. A little narrow for me but moved out well. 2 Clements' Springdac Red Siren. Another bitch with a feminine head and dark eye and overall pleasing outline standing but not so positive on the move. 3 Grant's Granhoward Ownly. *LB* (12) Good class of quality dogs. 1 Thorn-Andrews Drakesleat Drop Dead Gorgus. Lovely compact, happy bitch with everything in the right place. Well named. Lovely to go over. Feminine head and eye, good reach of neck, forechest, shoulders, ribbing, front and rear angulation and feet. Well muscled as all dogs are from this kennel and moved out well keeping her good outline. Future champion. Pressed hard in the challenge but today just preferred the overall type of Blue Moon. Res BCC. 2 Pain's Russteck Nicely Nicely for Ravensbeech Another quality bitch with a lot going for her. Lovely coat and everything where it should be. Attractive feminine head and eye and similar remarks apply as to the winner but just built on rangier lines and just preferred the front assembly of the winner. 3 Daykin's Barrantini Angels Eve. *OB* (7) Quality class. 1 Jones' Ch Bimini Blue Moon JW. Another lovely exhibit bred by this knowledgeable breeder who is now being rewarded for her efforts. Again there were close decisions but I think this breeder is breeding Standards in Miniature - just what I was looking for. Lovely to go over, built on flowing and elegant lines. Lovely feminine head and eye, good reach of neck flowing into good shoulders, long ribbing and great front assembly with well filled front. Well angulated front and rear with hammy hindquarters. Good underline and firm topline which she retained on the move. Flowed round the ring. Well handled and presented. BCC & BOB. Close decision for BOB but the Bitch scored on the fluidity of her movement and her rear driving movement keeping her outline. 2 Thorn-Andrews Ch Drakesleat Too Gud To Be True. Litter sister to winner of Limit Bitch. She looked great and had all the attributes of her sister but preferred the overall outline, movement and attitude of Blue Moon today. A worthy Champion. 3 Blackburn-Bennett's Ch Stargang Catch the Rainbow. *VB* (2) 1 Dance's Ch Emem Candy Sunshine (7 years). 2 Kirkwood's Ubu Isla at Helydon (10 years). Both exhibits had wonderful clean teeth and were very soundly built and full of enthusiasm. Owners should be very proud. They had the typical good dachshund outline including lovely heads and were both a correct size, not fat, but fit and raring to go. Candy Sunshine, although younger, just won on her more enthusiastic movement
