I was very honoured to be asked, for my first appointment, to judge at the Breed Championship Show. I would like to thank the committee for this opportunity and for there help and support on the day. I would particularly like to thank my steward who worked tirelessly and efficiently, always seeming to be one step ahead of me.
As for the dogs, overall quality was variable with the major concerns being the frequency of poor layback of shoulder and shortness of upper arms, shortness of keel and the ability to maintain outline on the move. Quality of exhibits was generally better in the girls but there are high quality individuals to be found in both sexes.
There were only a few dogs over 5kg, but they were well over, this was judged as a fault proportionate to its degree. There is also an issue with mouths in the breed with several level bites. I also found several examples of inverted canines that were running up into the soft palate or not clearing the upper gum, for me, this is detrimental to the health of the dog and breed and was treated as a major fault.
Coats were generally well prepared and of good to excellent quality. Back and forth movement was generally very good.
Temperaments on the
whole, were very good with lots of wags and kisses for the judge. However there
were a couple
who were very
timid on the table and fidgety on the move,
and a couple
who showed their displeasure of being examined on the table, which was taken
into account proportionally in my decisions.VDB

- Lovely
head & expression, good bone and depth of forechest for her age, neat front
flowing into
neat
ribcage & level topline, well bent stifles, she moved true to and fro with
enthusias2nd: BARCELLA Queenlord Unexpected Sienna - Elegant well proportioned
of correct size. Very attractive head carried on an elegant running into good
shaped with good length of keel. Needed more spring of rib and depth to complete
the picture for me. Not altogether happy on the table, but settled on the move.
Lovely type and correct height to length ratio. Moved well when moving away, but
she’s
a baby and so will have plenty of time to learn her craft and gain confidence.
Junior Bitch
(6)
1st: DANCE
Emem Hazel Sunshine - Well proportioned and balanced. Compact
with harsh coat, firm level topline, held in stance and profile movement.
Good overall
body shape and well angulated hindquarters.
Moved true in
front and coming back, but needs to firm behind. In
profile moved with reach and drive.
2nd: MCDERMOTT
Bardot's Brigitte (Imp Swe) - Slightly more elegant bitch with good height to
length ratio. Feminine balanced head with lovely eye. Preferred front assembly
of 1. Well developed forechest and length of keel.
Rock solid topline.
Shown in good
condition and well presented. Just needs to grow in confidence on the table.
Yearling Bitch (5)
1st: BARCELLA
Queenlord Daylight Revolution - Hard coated Black and Tan bitch with thick black
undercoat. Correct size and balance. Feminine head with lovely expression. Good
bone for
elegant
type.
So lovely to
go over on the table everything fitting together smoothly and correctly. Superb
front assembly with clean shoulders and adequate length and return of upper arm
with elbows neatly tucked into the ribcage, plenty of forechest, good length of
rib and keel. Short loin, level topline and correct tailset, well angulated rear
quarters with short rear pasterns. Plenty of ground clearance and I liked her
height to length ratio. On
the move she
moved with
perfect footfall being absolutely true coming and going and showing outstanding
reach and drive.
BCC & BOB,
RBS.
2nd: THORN
ANDREWS Drakesleat Hear No Evil - Another beautifully put together bitch of
correct size and type.
Compact with good
bone . Again
lovely to go over on the table everything fitting together smoothly and
correctly. Superb front assembly with clean well laid back shoulders and length
and return of upper arm, plenty of forechest, good length of rib, short loin,
level topline and correct tailset, well angulated rear quarters with short rear
pasterns. Such a shame that she was so phased by being on the table and
distracted on the move. If she had held it together she would of contended for
top honours as I’m sure she will in the future.

Similar to the other champion class but with four contenders worthy of their accolades competing for the honours and all only separated by fine details. I’m sure on another day the places could easily change. It all came down to minor details, presentation & condition on the day.
