WEST RIDING DACHSHUND ASS
West Riding Dachshund Association held an Open show, my thanks to the committee for their invitation to judge & to the exhibitors for their entries which included some good quality dogs & for the sporting way they took my decisions. I am sure that some of my placings are likely to change places with each other on a different day.
From a super line-up topping them all for BIS was the L/h, Abydachs Giving Off Sparks, this girl caught my eye as soon as she entered the ring & did not disappoint on the table. Well constructed throughout with an excellent head & lovely eye giving a very feminine & elegant appearance. Moved well with good drive & extension & keeping her topline at all times; RBIS & BV, the W/h, Ch/Ir Ch Ex Sentia I’m Bond James Bond; BP, the Min L/h, Lyndarlea Vienna, with the W/h, Bramalodge Bravac Boris RBP.
MIN L/H – PD (2) 1 Jury’s Bluebegin Thunder ‘N’ Light over Torwood, at 9 months still young with lots of potential to grow into. He has a good coat & a lovely head & expression. He moved well keeping a good topline; 2 Paskins’ Dinkidax Sandrayana at Kindeace, 7 months baby with good front construction but rear movement was rather loose, hopefully this will tighten up as he matures & gains more body. PB (7,2a) 1 Brooks’ Lyndarlea Vienna, a lovely puppy who at just under 9 months had put everything together very nicely. Good front & excellent coat. Sound construction allowing her to move out really well with nice parallel movement both coming & going & keeping her topline throughout. Her profile & overall balance appealed to me so much that I could not deny her in the challenge for best puppy despite preferring the head of the junior dog winner. BP, BPIS; 2 Oxley’s Pearl Our Pride And Joy at Dinkidax, a well made bitch with good head, neck & front angulation. Nicely ribbed. Lacking a bit in confidence today but shows lots of potential; 3 Jury’s Torwood Chaos Theory. JD (3,1) 1 Brooks’ Lyndarlea Just Andy, a little heavy in coat but very well constructed with a good head. Well boned & good ribbing, mature for his 10 months age. Moved well with good rear drive & a level topline. Ran the puppy bitch winner close for BP; 2 Buchan & Kerslake’s Devonwood Pippin at Helenium, lovely head & expression. Good front angulation & length of ribbing. Lacking a little in drive today. JB (5) 1 Shutt’s Sanmik Magic Happens to Donnadoon, nicely constructed with good angulation allowing excellent rear drive. Moved truly both coming & going with a good topline. Sufficient coat & lovely dark pigmentation; 2 Pearl Our Pride And Joy at D; 3 Kerslake’s Devonwood Steps In Time. PG (5) 1 Jury’s Bluebegin Pagen Moon at Torwood, a compact & well balanced dog with a pleasing head & eye. Moved well with drive & a good topline; 2 Brooks’ Lyndarlea Chitty Bang Bang, good overall construction with an excellent head & eye. Lost her topline a little on the move today; 3 Woodvine-Shone’s Hanishan Dutch Romance. L (2) 1 Woodvine-Shone’s Hanishan Little Red Madam, dark shaded/r bitch, very feminine with a good head & eye. Good angulation allowing her to move with drive & keep her topline throughout. Well balanced making a pleasing picture on the stack; 2 Woodall’s Rarewood Silver Commander, nicely marked silver dapple dog. A little heavy today but well proportioned & showing a good overall shape. Good angulation & moved well. OD (6,1) 1 Buchan & Kerslake’s Devonwood Cracker Jack at Helenium, a lovely head & expression & a good reach of neck. Good length & spring of rib. Moved out well with a level topline; 2 Brooks’ Obdax Lynn’s Badger, of taller type than 1 with good balance & well constructed throughout. Well angulated but just preferred the movement of 1 today; 3 Jury’s Torwood Please Turn Over. OB (4,2) Two quality bitches. 1 Geeson’s Abydachs Americana, lovely head & eye. Well balanced & very well constructed. Totally sound & moving out with drive & extension. An excellent topline held on the move. BOB; 2 Brooks’ Willott Astra at Pauntley, another well proportioned bitch with a very feminine head & eye. Preferred the movement & front angulation of 1. RBOB
MIN S/H – PD (2) 1 Paget & Carroll’s Melriding Mr Wickham at Marvale, 7 months & still a baby but good front assembly & an excellent topline. Good rear drive, winning the class on his movement; 2 Melbourne & Holdsworth’s Ambreglo Storm at Melriding, 11 months. Compact & balanced. Good shoulders but somewhat reluctant to stride & drive out today. PB (4) 1 Hunt’s Carpaccio Midnight Lace, 6 months very promising puppy. Lovely head & eye & a nice front. Good angulation allowing her to move out freely. One to watch for the future; 2 Kent’s Lokmadi Oh Marian, 7 months & needing to settle into herself a little more as, although her confirmation is good, movement was a little erratic; 3 Melbourne, Carroll & Paget’s Garthorne Olivia Grace of Melriding. JD (0). JB (5) 1 Price’s Samlane Desdemona, 11 months puppy offering a lovely profile on the stack. A good head & eye & excellent feet. Good angulation & level topline held on the move. A very promising puppy & another to watch. BP; 2 Hunt’s Carpaccio Scarlet O’Hara, another nice, well constructed bitch. Slightly preferred the balance & outline of 1; 3 Shutt’s Donadoon Dreamdust. PG (4,1) 1 Lombardelli’s Kelmbeck Kaisderin, nice head & well balanced. Sound front & ribbing with good rear angulation although movement not as positive as it could have been; 2 Taylor’s Debbiejay Magical Flo, of taller type to 1 & a close decision. Lovely head & expression. Moved well. Just preferred the overall balance of 1; 3 Walker’s Donadoon Tiger Feet for Dorenian. L (5,1) 1 Kent’s Lokmadi On Silent Wings, a good head & dark eye. Well balanced giving a lovely outline & a pleasing overall appearance. Feminine head carried proudly on a strong neck & shoulders. Lower to the ground but with sufficient ground clearance to allow her to move well with good drive & reach; 2 Carey’s Debbiejay Magical Spell, slightly longer on the leg than 1. I would have liked to see longer ribbing to improve the overall profile. Cooperated well with her handler; 3 Shutt’s Donadoon Waterloo Sunset. OD (3) 1 Carey’s Swingletrees Abracadabra, a good sized & well built dog. Good front & ribbing. Moved out well holding a level topline. RBOB; 2 Fossett & Kent’s Lokmadi A Boy Named Sue, slightly heavy & longer in type than 1 but well constructed with a well developed chest; 3 Burton’ Swingletrees Razzamatazz. OB (7,2) A close class with some good quality bitches. 1 Hunt’s Carpaccio Blithe Spirit, a compact build with slightly better proportions than 2. Feminine, with a good front & good overall balance making a pleasing picture on the stand. Good angulation which was put to good use, moving out well with a level topline. BOB; 2 Kent’s Lokmadi Hidden Dragon, good head & expression. Well balanced, firm body with good angulation. Steady mover, not the drive of 1; 3 Kerry’s Kireton Cici.
MIN W/H – P (3,1) 1 Hunt’s Earthseas Miss Esme, a promising 8 months puppy bitch with good overall balance. Houndy, whilst feminine, appearance with a good coat & nice furnishings. Well angulated allowing her to move out well. BP; 2 Price’s Samlane Emmaline, still very much a baby at the moment but shows a lot of promise. Very nice type. A little unsettled on the move today but I’m sure that when she has matured a little more she will do well. J (3) 1 Shone’s Hanishan Lady In The Lake, I fell for this girl as soon as I saw her. Lovely balanced appearance supported by good overall construction. Lovely head, neck & topline & good angulation. Moved & showed herself well. Excellent coat. Just a year but shows lots of promise for the future. BOB; 2 Clements’ Springdac Red Siren, not as compact & balanced as 1. Somewhat apprehensive on the table but made up for this on movement; 3 Hunt’s Earthseas Wolf’s Bane. PG (2) 1 Meredith’s Deepdax Perrie, well balanced. Good head & nice reach of neck leading into a good firm topline. Moved OK; 2 Clements’ Blidworth Beauty, taller/longer type, than 1 & not the overall balance. Didn’t have the same appeal when stacked but moved well to make up for this. L (2,1) 1 Walker’s Deepdax In The Red at Roselle, 7½ years of nice type with a good harsh coat. Good angulation & moved out well keeping a nice topline. OD (1) 1 Shone’s Strax Gogol, masculine dog with a nice harsh coat & good furnishings. Well balanced although I would have preferred a little more ribbing but his movement was his forte, parallel both coming & going & really driving out. RBOB. OB (2) 1 Derry’s Waldmeister Annie, elegant & well balanced bitch of taller type. Lovely head & expression. Showing good drive at the rear & holding a level topline; 2 Meredith’s Deepdax Lets Dance, another well balanced bitch with a good front & a beautiful head. Preferred the front movement but lost out to the drive of 1.
VARIETIES – V 1 Ch/Ir Ch Ex Sentia I’m Bond James Bond, 9 years W/h with excellent construction throughout. Good coat & furnishings. Still very much in his prime. BV, RBIS; 2 Geeson’s Ch Abydachs Absolution, 9 years Min L/h with a neautiful head & expression. Lovely construction throughout & very well balanced. Moved out really well, keeping a good firm topline; 3 Green’s Eldmour Electra. Senior V 1 Geeson’s Abydachs Oh What A Night, an all time favourite of mine & lovely to see him still enjoying his showing. At 13 years, he has lost none of his showmanship & is a dream to go over on the table, such a lovely size & so well constructed. His age showed a little on the move although he still strode out with drive & extension. Head had to rule heart when he met the veteran W/h absolutely in his prime for BV.
