I would like to thank the officers and committee of The Long-Haired Dachshund Club for inviting me to judge their show. I was made to feel very welcome by everyone and greatly appreciated the help and efficiency of my stewards, who ensured the ring ran smoothly throughout the day. The lunch was excellent and much enjoyed. It was a pleasure to go over so many quality entries; the puppies and juniors coming through have an extremely exciting time ahead. It was a pleasure being part of such an enjoyable event. Baby Puppy Dog (2 entries, 1 absent) 1. – Wellingtonway Muffin Man (Mrs KJ & Mr DL Gunter) Very promising red baby puppy, not quite 6 months old. A mature little dog for his age, showing lots of confidence on his first outing. Attractive head with good chest and pleasing length of body. Balanced overall and already showing a lovely outline. Shown very capably by his 5-year-old handler, making a delightful partnership. One to watch for the future. Minor Puppy Dog (5 entries) 1. – Crownlake Rolls Royce (Miss D Mason) Just 6 months old, this youngster presents a very promising picture. Attractive head with a good chest and pleasing length of body. Well balanced and already showing maturity for his age. Moved very well, maintaining his outline. Beautiful coat and well-presented throughout. One to watch for the future. 2. Daniello Felix Star at Abbykiera ((Mrs LM McNulty) Although 8 months old not quite as mature as my winner, but still a pleasing youngster. Good length of rib with a nice chest and an attractive head. Well marked and of good type. Another with potential as he develops. Puppy Dog (5 entries) 1. – Dandydayo Cowboy & Kisses (Mr A Whitfield-Roberts) 9-month-old red puppy of lovely size and balance. Attractive head with well-set ears and a pleasing expression. Good chest and correct front assembly with neat, tight feet. Nice height to length ratio and already carrying a good, full coat. Maintained a good topline. A very promising youngster. 2. – Hanishan Starlightexpress (Miss H Woodvine-Shone) Another pleasing puppy with a nice head and good chest, complemented by well-shaped almond eyes. Balanced overall and of good type. Not as settled on the move today as my winner, but a lovely dog with immense potential as he matures. Best Puppy Dog Junior Dog (4 entries 1 absent) 1.– Indiko Fire and Ice (Mrs KM Drady) Shaded cream dog, well balanced and correctly proportioned with good bone throughout. Masculine head with good pigment and a well-shaped dark eye giving a pleasing expression. Good chest and well-laid shoulders. Nicely ribbed with a short, strong loin. Maintained a firm topline both standing and on the move. Balanced rear angulation and moved out confidently with good reach and drive. 2 – Erinshore Red Robin for Ulani (Mrs K & Mr R Neasby) Pleasant red dog with a good length of body and well ribbed back. Correct in height to length ratio, though a little low to the ground on the day. Head acceptable, although eye a touch round. Not quite the movement of my winner, lacking the same balance and drive, but still a sound exhibit. Post Graduate Dog (4 entries) 1. Scrumptious Red On The Dot JW (Mrs C May) Shaded red dog, very well put together and presenting a balanced outline. Lovely head with correct ear set and dark eye giving a pleasing expression. Good length of neck flowing into well-laid shoulders. Nicely developed fore- chest and well ribbed with a short, strong loin. Maintained a firm topline both standing and on the move. Balanced rear angulation and moved out soundly and with good coordination. 2. Restinim Mr Pip (Rev A Fairchild) Quality black and tan dog with a pleasing, masculine head of good length and balance, complemented by a dark eye and well-set ears. Good length of neck into well-placed shoulders. Well ribbed with adequate chest and a short loin. Balanced rear angulation. Moved well when settled, but not the confidence of my 1st. Open Dog (1 entry) 1. – Tolberg Black Adder at Indiko (Mrs KM Drady) Attractive black and tan dog, well balanced and presenting a pleasing outline. Good head with well-shaped dark eye and a lovely expression. Excellent front with prominent fore-chest and tight feet. Well ribbed and strong throughout. Maintained a firm topline and moved out soundly with good drive, holding his shape well on the move. A quality exhibit who caught my eye when he came into the ring. Best dog & Best of Breed. Veteran Dog (2 entries 1 absent) 1. Ch. Hanishan Fire Cracker (Miss H Woodvine-Shone) Shaded red dog of seven years, presented in lovely condition and enjoying his day. Good front assembly with a pleasing oval fore-chest and well-laid, tight shoulders. Maintained a firm topline. Correct height to length ratio. Moved out with plenty of drive. An eye-catching and well-presented veteran. Best Veteran Reserve Best Dog Baby Puppy Bitch (5 entries) 1. – Allforus Black Ice (Mrs C Bell) A gorgeous 5-month-old black and cream bitch. Nice length with a good chest, lovely face and expressive eyes, and a beautiful coat. Moved well for a baby; just needs a little more practice on the table and overall. Has great promise— one to watch. 2. – Wellingtonway Mad Madam Mim (Mrs KJ & Mr DL Gunter) Another lovely 5-month-old puppy. Good coat and moved satisfactorily. Confident on the table but a little skittish on the move; this should improve with age and experience. Minor Puppy Bitch (4 entries – 2 absent) 1. – Findowrie Forget me not (Mrs ME Poole) A lovely black and tan girl, very mature for her age with a nice coat. Good chest and pleasing expression. Held a lovely topline on the move, noticeably confident both on the table and on the go. I am sure she has a bright future in showing. 2. – Crownlake Dream Weaver on Sidbury Hill (Mr A & Mrs K Stevens) A lovely 6-month-old puppy with a good head and topline, not as well developed in the chest but moved very well, not as mature as my 1st but one to watch as she matures. Best Puppy & BPIS Puppy Bitch (11 entries – 5 absent) 1. – Findowrie Field of Dreams (Rev A Fairchild) A very appealing puppy, nicely balanced for her age. Good chest with nice ribbing and a compact outline. Feminine with a pleasing overall shape. Held a lovely topline on the move, which just gave her the edge in this class. Reserve Best Puppy 2. – Summerview Lucy Locket (Mrs J & Mr P King) Very close decision. A lovely black and tan with a nice chest and good length of rib. Moved well and showed a pleasing outline. Not as compact as the winner today, but a quality youngster. Junior Bitch (7 entries – 4 absent) 1. - Indiko A Touch of Cream at Tolberg JW (Mrs L Bell) Very striking, confident black and cream bitch of correct proportions. Lovely front, beautiful head, and expression. Good length of rib and well balanced throughout. Sound, active mover who held her shape well on the move, showing particularly good hind action. A showstopper. 2. - Cunannun Put The Crazy Away (Mrs SS Millington) Solid bitch with good length of rib. Nice head and expression. Not as positive on the move as my winner today. Best Bitch & Best of Breed Post Graduate Bitch (9 entries – 6 absent) 1. Minard Whispering Angel at Treranch (Mrs PG Westaway) Lovely red bitch with a pleasing front and good length of rib. Well balanced with a good topline. Moved soundly and with purpose. 2 - Kazamours Evening in Paris (Mrs K Stevens) Close decision with my winner. Attractive cream bitch with a good coat, nice head, and lovely expression. Just not as positive on the move as first. Limit Bitch (8 entries – 4 absent) 1 - Indigo Eternal Flame (Mrs KM Drady) Lovely black and cream bitch of excellent type and balance. Feminine head with nice eyes and good reach of neck into well-laid shoulders. Well-ribbed with strong topline and sound movement, holding her outline both standing and on the move. Shown in excellent condition. 2 - Crownlakes Million Dreams (Miss D Mason) Dark red bitch of lovely type with excellent overall construction. Pleasing head with good reach of neck and well-laid shoulders. Strong ribbing and sound front, moving freely and maintaining a good outline. Shown in beautiful condition but just lacked the poise of the winner today. Open Bitch (5 entries – 2 absent) 1 – Tolberg Cream Surprise at Indiko (Mrs KM Drady) Lovely feminine cream bitch with an attractive head and pleasing expression. Good shoulders and well ribbed, with a prominent fore-chest and correct topline and underline. Balanced throughout. Moved well, maintaining her outline and showing herself to advantage. Reserve Best Bitch 2 – Dolyharp Sweet Harmony (Mrs P Cox) Attractive red bitch with a nice head and good topline. Well balanced overall and of pleasing type. A close decision, but not the movement of my winner on the day. Veteran Bitch (1 entry) 1 – Abbilis Maleficent at Treranch (Mrs PG Westaway) Well-presented veteran bitch good overall balance and condition. Feminine throughout with a pleasing head and expression. Maintained a good topline and moved out soundly. Mrs Vivienne Findlay

My thanks to the committee & club for the invitation to judge. My thanks to my hard working stewards, Lesley & Judith, for keeping the ring running smoothly which made my day much easier. To all of the exhibitors for their entries & accepting my decisions with good sportsmanship. Overall, all dogs were presented in a nice clean condition with good temperaments. Some, in my opinion, have let the coats get a little too long ruining the outlines, the standard calls for feathering with a flat coat not obscuring the outline. There was a very varied mix of types, especially in size, with some getting too big, breeders & owners need to keep an eye on this. MPD (1) 1 Cooper & Hendren Bronia Leonardo. Nine-month-old red dog of typical size. Presents a pleasing hound head with correct almond eye and well-set ears. Good length of neck leading into a prominent forechest. Well-ribbed with a short loin and good rear angulation. Moved straight and true coming & going, maintaining his topline at all times. A very promising youngster, please to award him BPIB. PD (2) 1 Rodrigues Sujarah Dare To Dream. Slightly larger than previous class winner but still balanced. Good head shape with dark almond eye. Neck a little shorter and a little upright in shoulder but has a good prominent chest, though a touch longer in loin than ideal. Good rear angulation but a little close in movement coming & going. JD (1) 1 Garlick Ranglewood Christmas Star. Good head with correct almond eye. Moderate neck and chest, though shoulder slightly upright. Good ground clearance with long ribbing and short loin. Level topline and good rear angulation. Movement straight & sound with drive. PGD (3) 1 Paskins Kindeace London's Calling JW. Well-shaped head with almond eye and good neck length. Prominent forechest, though upper arm slightly short. Good ground clearance, strong ribbing and short loin. Sound rear angulation. Moved straight and true, best mover in the class. 2 O'Neill Ranglewood Pheonix at Donnadach. Smaller than winner with a pleasing head and dark eye. Slightly shorter in neck and forechest. Shoulder placement and front angulation both ok. Ribbing a little short for my liking (60/40 balance). Slightly close behind but adequate rear angulation. LB (4,2) 1 Paskins Kindeace Hit The Road Jack JW. Good head and dark almond eye. Moderate neck with prominent forechest & well laid shoulder. Good ground clearance, ribbing and loin length. Rear angulation good & moves with drive, though a little close in movement. Coat in
good condition. 2 O'Neill Ranglewood Finlaggan at Donnadach. Similar size with good head and eye, correct dentition. Slightly shorter neck and smaller forechest. Shoulder adequate with ribbing a little short and overall slightly long in body. Movement straight but closer & would prefer more drive; preferred winner for overall balance. OD (2,1) 1 Geeson Ch Abydachs Return of the Night. Excellent head and long, graceful neck. Prominent forechest with very good front assembly. Superb ribbing and short loin. Strong rear
angulation and well-muscled. Moved with power and drive, straight coming & going. Happy to award him BD & BOB & pleased to later see him go BIS VD (2,1) 1 Roberts - Ch Swansford Gabrieldor. Quality dog with excellent conical head and lovely neck length. Deep chest, well-laid shoulders, and good ground clearance. Long ribbing with short loin. Strong rear and well-muscled. Moved with power and accuracy; pushing hard for top honours. RBD, BVIB & later BVIS. 2 Garlick Ranglewood Harvest Song. Good head and chest depth with sound shoulder angulation. Slightly less ground clearance than winner. Good ribbing but a touch under-angulated behind. Still moved well, especially considering age. PB (3,1) 1 Whitfield-Roberts Swansford Opheliadora. Black & tan bitch with pleasing head and good neck length. Prominent chest and well-constructed front. Good ground clearance, ribbing and short loin. Strong rear angulation. Moved with power and accuracy for her age; coat in good condition. Pleased to award her BPB. 2 Clarke Briarmist Fire and Ice to Tekalhaus. Overall, a good sized bitch with correct conical head and elegant neck. Good forechest & length of keel with correct front angulation. Balanced throughout with good movement. Slightly bum-high at present but should level with maturity. JB (2,1) 1 Richardson Ranglewood Noelle. Good conical head, dark almond eye and correct dentition. Moderate neck and forechest. Well laid shoulder & good ground clearance with plenty of ribbing. Rear angulation adequate; movement good but slightly close going away. PGB (7,2) This was a tough class to judge with 3 lovely bitches of similar age with promising futures ahead, I will definitely be keeping an eye on all of them. 1st Barnicott & Pascoe Fahoogle Minack. Good sized bitch overall with pleasing head, dark eye and good ear set. Good neck into well-placed shoulders and prominent forechest. Balanced body with good ribbing and rear angulation. Free-flowing movement with power and drive. 2 West Delsaux Twenty Carat Golden for Kendalldax JW. Lovely head and expression with elegant neck. Good chest depth and tight elbows. Strong ribbing and short loin. Good rear angulation. Moved with drive; very close decision between first and second. LB (6,4) 1 Garlick Kyrenia Queens Request with Ranglewood. Elegant bitch with quality head and dark eye. Long neck into well-placed shoulders and prominent forechest. Balanced with good ribbing and short loin. Coat in good condition. Just lost some drive in the challenge. RBB. 2 Chapman - Melminds Up On The Catwalk. Another pleasing type with conical head and good eye. Neck slightly shorter than winner. Balanced angulation and good ground clearance. Not moving at
her best in front today. OB (5,2) 1 Garlick Ranglewood Andromeda. Attractive bitch with good head, dark eye and excellent dentition. Well-set ears and lovely neck length. Prominent forechest, good shoulder placement and angulation. Strong topline with good ribbing and tight loin. Well-muscled rear and powerful movement. BB & BOS. 2 Geeson Ch Abydachs Fire in Her Soul. Another lovely bitch with good conical head and dark eye. Long neck and strong forechest. Slightly lower to ground than winner but balanced throughout. Good ribbing and rear angulation. Moved with power; little between them.
