Thank you to the Officers and Commitee of the Northern Dachshund Association for their kind invitation to judge at their Open Show 16th Feb 2020. My thanks to the stewards who assisted in keeping the ring moving and for their guidance during the day. Thank you to al who gave entries and to the exhibitors who braved the horrendous weather conditions to attend. The sportsmanship and gracious acceptance of my placings made for a very enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere.
It was pleasing to see that all exhibits were presented to a very high standard and attention had been paid to teeth and nails. In regard to weight I only found one male that I would have liked a little more body on. I was looking for a hound that was constructed and could move and carry out a days work, I had some difficult decisions. I was exceptionally pleased with my BIS & BPIS line up.

1. Puppy Delaney & Gregory’s Bensarka Clodiagh – RBOB Red bitch Sound temperament with a conical head and pleasing oval eye. Nice neck leading into well placed shoulders with a lovely upper arm. Just needs to tighten up with rear action however this should come with time. RBOB
2. Puppy Tomlinson’s Bensarka Emerald Isle To Melisdax – Another red bitch who happens to be litter sister to No 1. A smaller type overall who unfortunately today just wasn’t cooperating with handler. Still had a lot to like when presented on table. Again numerically small today. I do think that breeders need to pay attention to coats in this variety to ensure you are not producing soft coats.
1. P/G Corner’s Gragareth Girl At Carcorn – 19 mth old bitch was unfortunately not cooperating with handler today so was difficult to access on the table and also on the move. Pleasing enough head and front and nice ribbing. Could benefit from a little less weight.

some very nice bitches and I felt that from the last time I judged the breed rear action has improved along with fronts and there doesn’t appear to be as much tummy tapping. A number could have changed places today and several I would have been more than pleased to have had in my own kennel.
1. Puppy Bell’s Tolberg Songbird -BPIB Shaded cream bitch a up to size female but so well constructed could not overlook this. Feminine conical head, oval eye into excellent neck. Good front assembly, good shoulders with a super upper arm. Lovely in outline both stacked and moved soundly out and back.
2. Puppy Birdsworth’s Ambyth Back to Black – B/T smaller type than no 1 and just not as cooperative today with handler. Pleasing feminine head, nice eye, nicely ribbed with short loin. Just prefer more laid back shoulder’s though this could change as only 8 mths old.
1. Junior Woodvine-Shone’s Hanishan Fire Cracker – Red boy who stood alone in this class. Present in excellent condition. Conical head, oval eye with flowing neck into well placed shoulders. Nice bone with tight feet moved soundly out and back carrying a level topline at all times. Overall a nice type would must prefer a little more front.
1. P/G Cohen’s Lilac Blossom For Hutzpah – RBB & RBOB Red really liked this bitch was so well constructed and this was evident when she moved. Feminine head, excellent front, ribbed right back with a short loin into well angulated quarters. Moved out so soundly and looked elegant. To be really critical would just prefer a little more neck to complete the picture.
1. Limit Birdsworth’s Ambyth Up Town Girl – Red bitch nice type conical head and nice eye, good neck with pleasing shoulders. Would prefer a little tighter elbows, good ribbing short loin with good angulated quarters. Moved soundly.
2. Limit Woodvine-Shone’s Hanishan Stracciatella – B/T bitch one that I have admired before from the ring side. Beautiful feminine head and oval eye with lovely flowing neck into well placed shoulders with tight elbows. Loved this lady stacked however today she just didn’t want to perform moving and I felt topline was roached. Have seen her move much better.
1. O/D Buchan & Kerslake’s Devonwood Crackerjack at Helenium – BD & BOS B/t boy 6 yrs old really seemed to enjoy his day out. Nice profile stacked pleasing head, eye adequate neck good shoulders with a good return of upper arm, tight elbows and good ribbing into well angulated quarters. Moved soundly out and back.
1. O/B Metcalfe-Bilgin’s Metadale Ariadne -BB, BOB & BIS Well my notes say stunning yet elegant this bitch caught my eye immediately. Not overdone in any way and everything in the correct place. Such a feminine head with beautiful eye, flowing neck into correct shoulders with tight elbows. Ribbed right bank with a short loin into well angulated quarters. This bitch just flowed round the ring and I felt she just screamed look at me. So pleased to award her BIS. I have since learned she has 5 RCC’s.
