WEST RIDING DACHSHUND ASS

BIS Judge : Claire Rishworth

(Left to Right, BIS, RBIS, BPIS, RBPIS, BVIS)

First of all can I thank the Committee and Secretary Janet Kay of the WRDA for inviting me to judge at this Club’s Open Show. A lovely warm welcome from all. I thoroughly enjoyed my appointment and the experience of judging so many super dogs. Just a few general comments. I was disappointed to find that several Standard exhibits were carrying too much condition and lacked muscle tone. There were a couple of Dachshunds without a perfect scissor bite and some coats were not in the best condition. Bearing in mind that all show dogs must be fit for function, there were a few that needed more time spent on honing their fitness programme. Muscles and muscle tone are mentioned several times in the standard and it is important that this is kept to the forefront of preserving this fundamental part of a working breed. Temperaments were excellent and there were some very pleasing examples of the breed present on the day.

PB (2,1) 1 Walker’s Donnadoon Little Dreamer at Dorenian. Red brindle, 9 months. Lovely for size and balanced throughout. Super head ratios, correct ear set and good mouth. Moderate length, well ribbed standing on decent feet. Moved soundly and with confidence. BP. JD (1) 1 Hambling’s Chaseover Moonshine. Handsome headed black and tan. Masculine, with pleasing front construction standing on full front feet. Good in neck and shoulders. A little generous in length, but carried himself well, keeping his top line. Strong hind quarters. Sound mover. JB (2,1) 1 Callow’s Garthorne Glenda. Super for overall size. Attractive head with dark eyes. Front and shoulder placement good, well sprung ribs. Moderate for length with satisfactory ground clearance. Not at ease today which affected her performance. Happier when on the move, moving out soundly with correct tail carriage. BB. PGD/B (3,1) Two very confident exhibits. 1 Hutchings & Price’s Collidach Splish Splash. Red brindle bitch. Lovely for size. Balanced and moderate in length, well coupled fore and aft. Moderate tuck up. Feet strong and full. Moved out with enthusiasm, tail a little lively. 2 Taylor’s Debbiejay Raquel Ska. Black and tan bitch. Good conical head, dark almond eyes and ears well set. A tad long, prominent breast bone. Better both in coat and muscle tone than 1. Moved with enthusiasm, again with a lively tail. LD/B (1) 1 Francis’s Stargang Hay Bob at Feebrick. Very handsome red male. Beautiful head, obviously masculine, conical from above with the ratios as required. Long neck, sloping shoulders, standing on strong full feet. Deep keel, correct underline and good ground clearance. Well muscled hind quarters. Excellent tail carriage and moved out soundly. BOB, BD, RBIS. OD (1) 1 Russell’s Foxearth Tiger Roll. Black and tan. Masculine head, handsome and correct. Full oval chest, deep keel. Would just like more ground clearance. Broad front feet, standing on strong bone. Well ribbed and strong hind quarters. Overall, just a little generous through out. Moved soundly.

PD/B (5) Interesting class of various breed types and sizes. 1 Howe’s Bramalodge Bernadette. Lovely balanced pup. Head with prominent brow ridge. Front assembly good with short forearm. Front feet could be tighter. Excellent ground clearance. Pleasing top line and strong hind quarters. Moved out well and with confidence. BPIB. 2 Westwood’s Clipperdown Rock n Roll Star. Larger throughout but much to like about this male. Beautiful head with all the aspects of the standard ticked. Long strong neck and excellent sloping shoulders. Deep keel with moderate tuck up. Strong bone and super feet. In better coat than one. Fit and good musculature. Certainly looked as if he could do a day’s work. Just would prefer cast a tad smaller. 3 Westwood’s Brumberhill Blink of an Eye. JD/B (6) 1 Westwood’s Clipperdown Rock n Roll Star. 2 Russell & Hutching’s Collidach Russell Leeves. Lovely headed dog, well bearded, with bushy eyebrows. Smaller than one. Well balanced with no exaggeration. Compact with a decent top line and good ground clearance. Strong bone and ribbing well backed. Carrying perfect weight for size. Moved out confidently. 3 Westwood’s Brumberhill Blink of an Eye. PGD/B (2) 1 Eldred’s Derdledash Naughty Neptune. Eye-catching male. Well bearded with dark eye, framed with the necessary bushy eyebrows. Super forequarters with correspondingly strong hind quarters. Stood full square on good feet. Moderate for length with excellent ground clearance. Carrying just enough weight. Confident on the move. 2 Howe’s Bramalodge Billie Jean. Well balanced bitch. Excellent for size and presented a balanced picture of a breed typical dog. Strong under jaw, with bearded chin and correct ears, smooth and of correct length. Another with good ground clearance, holding her top line on the move. Decent for bone and feet strong and neat. Handled well. LD/B (2) Both exhibits were most pleasing and very typical of their sex. 1 Ord & Ainsley’s Cloudside Sebastian of Marnadee JW. Very confident male who as he settled, showed off his obvious qualities. Strongly masculine, with super head, well bearded and characterised with prominent brow ridge with bushy eyebrows atop. Long strong neck. Sloping shoulders with the required angulation fore and aft. Top line correct and held on the move. Strong loin. Excellent feet and coat. Moved out easily with correct tail carriage. BOB,BD and BIS. 2 Dickinson’s Derdledash Dakota at Dakotadax. So much to like about this feminine example of the breed. Lovely head with correct ratios and moderate ears. Long neck, deep keel and prominent breast bone. Tidy underline with good ground clearance. Moderate for length with level top line with the slight rise over loin. Spot on for weight with good muscle tone. Moved freely. RBOB,BB. OD (1) 1 Hutchings & Price’s Collidach Percy Cute at Samlane. Another dog possessing a lovely head. Unexaggerated throughout, presenting a balanced picture. Good front, deep keel and well ribbed. Decent for bone and tight strong feet. Coat harsh and straight. Strong hind quarters which he used on the move. Sound, covering the ground with ease. OB (1) 1 Hutching’s Ch Collidach Brook Ling. Very attractive bitch with delightful, breed typical head and expression. Super for size and well balanced. Correct angulation, in both fore and hind quarters. Strong bone relative to size and feet neat and full. Held a good top line. Full of confidence and accurate on the move.

PD/B (2,1) 1 Negus’s Tarramist Platinum Aria (AI). Very smart bitch pup of 8 months. Beautiful head, so breed typical. Super front assembly, excellent angulations as were those of hind quarters. Coat in show condition, soft and straight. Top line spot on. Excellent musculature. Balanced and moderate from nose to tail. Confident and one of the best movers of the day. BPIB, BPIS. PGD/B (3,2) 1 Linacre’s Swansford Carazondor. Beautiful headed, dark eyed, confident dog, masculine through out. Just three years. Well boned, front and rear assembly pleasing. Excellent feet. Felt he was carrying too much condition, spoiling both his performance and general show presentation. Profuse coat. Would love to see this dog, carrying less weight, in better muscle tone and being able to fulfil his true potential which is so evident. RBOB. LD/B (3,1) Well matched pair, both good for size and weight. 1 Paskin’s Cedavoch It’s Taboo at Kindeace. Red male. Lovely head, well set ears, dark eyed. Strong underjaw. Well constructed and balanced. Correct top line. Decent depth of keel, smooth transition into underline. Moderate in length. Super coat. Moved soundly. 2 Rodrigue’s Amberteckel Baltic Dawn at Islewin. Red bitch. Moderate throughout and certainly breed typical. Pleasing in many aspects. Super for size. Carrying just the right amount of condition. Good strong feet but would like to see shorter nails. Moved confidently. OD (1) 1 Paskin’s Kindeace Texas Ranger. Lovely headed red, ear set spot on. Good front, standing on neat, strong feet. Good depth of keel. Super top line and coat not excessive, soft and straight. Completely unexaggerated in any departments. Did not look completely comfortable with the floor covering when on the move. BOB, BD. OB (1) 1 Paskin’s Africandawns May Sonnet Kindeace. Black and tan. Super for size. Correct head ratios and shoulders clean with correct angulation of upper arm. Decent for bone and ideal length. Definitely moderate without exaggeration. My notes say, lacked sparkle. Moved well.
