VD/B (4,2) 1st Gulliagh Loganberry of Robinswood. No doubt about his size and so very sound even in his early Veteran years. Well balanced head carried proudly on long, slightly arched neck. Almond shaped eyes; dark in colour and obliquely set. Strength to his underjaw and scissor bite. Long rib cage and short loin supporting a strong level top line. Well angulated hind quarters with strong hocks which he uses propel himself forward with great freedom. Coat could be thicker, have more density and have a harsher texture. Best Dog & Best Veteran in Breed & RBVIS. 2nd Jantar Red Horses (imp Pol). A 9 year old who, like the judge, clearly enjoys his food and is struggling with a little middle-aged spread. He appealed in his length to height ratio and has long tapering head with a strong jaw. Would like a longer neck. Moderately angulated forequarters and matching hindquarters. Moved steadily and sound away and back. Coat of excellent harsh texture with brows, beard and neat furnishings.

Baby Puppy (5,1) Four really exciting ‘baby’ puppies all showing great promise and the winner was my star of the day who I could have easily taken home. 1st Moonshe Bee Lightful. What a self-assured puppy who ticked all the boxes. A lovely size and makes a perfect silhouette stood. Beautiful head and expression. Long neck with slight arch giving an air of confidence in her head carriage. Holds her top loine whether stood or in side gait. So sound away and back. Moves with drive from low hocks and has a good length to her stride. Coat already dense and harsh to touch. BBPIS. 2nd Rozamie Respectable. Another beautiful baby who like the winner makes a very typical silhouette and is an ideal size. Loved her head and expression. Long neck with slight arch. Fore chest well developed for her age. Very balanced angulation to her forequarters and the same behind. Super harsh texture to her dense red coat. Moved with freedom in side gait. Just not quite as accurate as the winner going away. 3rd Moonshe Bee Linquent. Litter brother to the class winner. Loved his type, size and shape. Just needs a little more coordination away and back. 4th Clipperdown Smarties Sadie. What a shame she applied the brakes. Another very attractive bitch who scores in head and expression. Her forequarters are a delight to go over. But today she wanted to be a statue.

PD (2,0) 1st Wistex Perfect Storm. Appealed for his overall body proportions and size. Attractive head and expression. Dark almond eyes. Slight arch to his long neck to well laid shoulder blades and a return of upper arm of equal length. Long rib cage and short loin. Shows strength to his top line stood and on the move. Well angulated hind quarters. Moved effortlessly with drive from low hocks and with a long stride in front. Very sound. Tail set high and carried with a little too much enthusiasm which detracted. Harsh coat developing well for his age. 2nd Dajean Spanish Gold with Ottateck. A red dog at the end of his puppy career. Built on finer lines than the winner but not at all weedy. Beautiful head and dark, almond eyes. Big strong teeth and perfect scissor bite. Long in rib cage and slightly longer in loin than the winner and a little taller on the leg. Holds his top line well and carries his tail well. Moved soundly with drive from his well-muscled hind quarters and good reach in front.

PGD (3,2) 1st Carcorn Raphael’s Racer. I liked his head proportions and his typical almond shaped eyes which could be darker. Strong jaw with big teeth and scissor bite. His body is very balanced with his height at the withers half the length of his back. He was in really fit hard condition with great functional feet. Shows strength to is level top line. Tail set and carried a little higher than ideal. Moved parallel away and back. Moderately angulated forequarters so just lacking the forward reach. A little enthusiastic on the move in side gait so lacked coordination. Coat dense and short with desired harsh texture.

LD (2,0) 1st Kaytian The Suncaller JW. A red dog with a super harsh jacket. Beautiful head and really dark almond eyes. Strong jaw and healthy looking teeth. Slight arch to his long neck. Well angulated forequarters with well developed breast bone and front legs set well under his body covering his keel. Well muscled thighs and strong hocks. Moved soundly away and back. Moves with drive and good reach in front in side gait. 2nd Birchino Barley of Robinswood. A really sound hound; so true going away and coming towards. Well proportioned head with dark almond eye. Lovely reach of neck. Moderately angulated forequarters. Lacking strength in top line. Tail set and carried a little high. Out of coat so looking a little ‘naked’.

OD (3,2) 1st Ch Almarxils Diego for Ruichango JW (imp Esp). Immediately appealed for his overall size and deportment. He has a beautiful head which he carries proudly on his long neck. Dark expressive almond eyes. Big healthy teeth. Well angulated forequarters and perfect balance and matching angulation of his hind quarters. Medium length to rib cage and longer loin. Really impressive on the move with his proud head carriage, level top line and tail carried low. Very sound away and back. Showing drive from behind and a long easy stride in profile. Short dense coat of harsh texture. Reserve Best Dog. Just preferred the proportions and top line of the Veteran Dog today.

PB (3,0) 1st Lordscairnie Love In Paris. She has lots of stars in my notes and the words ‘gorgeous’ as my first impression then the words ‘cannot stand wrong’. An ideal size and presents a very balanced and typical silhouette. She has beautiful dark almond shaped eyes and a well-proportioned head. She moves likes she is made. Drive from well angulated hind quarters and a long stride from her well laid shoulders and matching length and angle of her upper arm. Coat very well developed for age. Nice, dense undercoat with harsh texture coat. Just lacking a little definition in her loin as she appeared to have had a very hearty breakfast today. BPIB & RBPIS. 2nd Dajean Spanish Eyes. Loved the head and expression on this red bitch. Built on slightly finer lines and not quite the bone of the winner. Beautiful head and expression. Good length of her rib cage and strong, short loin. Carries her tail perfectly which enhances her outline on the move. Moves with drive and good reach in front. Parallel going away and coming towards. Coat developing well; harsh texture coming. 3rd Kenbloom Mazda. Built on bigger lines but a lovely sound bitch puppy.

PGB (7 2) A thought-provoking class to judge with lots of compromise necessary none more so than 1st Bimini Indigo Blue. She was out of coat and what she did have was not the desired harsh texture. She does however have a lovely head and expression. She also had the best overall balance, had the correct construction and as such was the best mover. She carries her head proudly on her beautiful long neck. Well laid shoulders and well-developed fore chest. Long rib cage and short loin. Holds her top line stood and on the move. 2nd Lordscairnie Peaceful Love. Really appealed for her correct size and body proportions. Very attractive head and dark almond eye giving lovely expression. Would like a longer neck. Holds her top line level stood and on the move. Moderate angulation in front and well angulated hind quarters. Moved parallel away and back. Not quite the freedom of movement of the winner. 3rd Rosenbach Christmas Star.

LB (4,1) What an honour (and a real test) to sort out these two beautiful young litter sisters who have not surprisingly had really successful puppy/junior careers given their respective JW titles. They both have beautiful heads in every respect. Both were confident and lively; Hazel Sunshine having a ball …..her courage definitely verging on rashness. 1st Emem Hope for Sunshine JW. Just the most ideal size and shape. So well balanced. Long rib cage with short loin creating a robust and level top line. The angulation of her forequarters matches that of her hind quarters and as she moves with great freedom created by the drive and the reach of that long stride. I love the way she carries her head on that long neck with typical slight arch. The silhouette finished by her tail which is carried perfectly below her top line. Her coat is dense and harsh to touch with a little beard and neat but evident eyebrows. Legs show harsh, neat furnishings. Best Bitch & Best of Breed & Best in Show. 2nd Emem Hazel Sunshine JW. Very similar in so many respects. A fraction bigger than her sister but still very much a ‘miniature’. Has that same deportment with proud head carriage on that long neck. Very much the same body proportions as her sister but tail just carried a little higher today. Coat in equally good order. 3rd Dachshington Cassiopiea.

OB (7,5) Only two but definitely a case of quality over quantity. Both CC worthy and I wrote ‘two beauties’ at the start of my notes. 1st Bimini To The Moon And Back. The most beautiful head and expression with dark almond eye. Strong jaw and big healthy white teeth. Long neck with slight arch. Well angulated forequarters with legs set well under withers hiding her keel. Lovely feet – definitely fit for function. Long rib cage and strong loin. Top line held perfectly at all times. Moved with great freedom driving from her ow hocks, lovely long stride and a super silhouette in side gait. Coat nice and dense and with harsh texture. Reserve Best Bitch. 2nd Emem Joyful Sunshine JW. Half sister to the first and second in Limit (having the same sire) and of a very similar stamp. Her name is very apt as she was certainly full of joy (and mischief); her tail never stopped wagging. In fact her body never stopped wagging !! Well balanced head with dark expressive almonds shaped eyes. Big strong teeth and scissor bite. Long neck and well developed fore chest. She makes a very typical and well-balanced outline being twice the length of the height at her withers. Her coat was short and harsh textured with beard and eyebrows evident and neat furnishings on her legs. Moved parallel away and back and positively ‘whizzed’ around the ring such was her enthusiasm. Clearly showing drive and good reach in front.

What an honour to have been invited to judge this prestigious Dachshund Club Show – I am very grateful to the Officers & Committee Members for the opportunity. I would like to thank the exhibitors for their support with an entry of 23 Wirehaired and 42 Mini Wires. Whilst there were several absentees on the day, I was very pleased with my principle winners with some very close final decisions in the Mini Wires and a particularly exciting Baby Puppy class. My steward was a great help allowing me to concentrate on the dogs; thank you Ian.

Dachshund (Wire-haired)

VD/B (2,1) 1st Cairparavel Kiss From A Rose JW. In fabulous muscle tone and a picture of health. Proud head carriage and lots of attitude – typically courageous. Immediately appealed for her overall outline and balance. Well-proportioned head of correct length with strong jaw, scissor bite and big, wet nose. Slightly paler eye colour but super almond shape. Evident ridges over her eyes. Loved her long slightly arched neck. Balanced angulation of forequarters but could have a slightly longer stride. Drives well from well-muscled and correctly angulated hind quarters. Coat of quality; harsh with correct undercoat, beard, bushy brows and well-furnished legs and feet. Moved freely; parallel coming and going. Best Bitch, Best of Breed, Best Veteran in Show & Reserve Best in Show.

JD (1,0) 1st Carcorn Chrissy’s Legacy. Very promising young man; just out of puppy. Lovely head Presents a balanced picture stood and on the move. Twice as long as height at withers. Loved the length of his rib, strong loin, power of his hind quarters and sturdy hocks. As such his top line was rock solid. Tail could be set a fraction lower but thankfully not carried too high. Liked the length of his head and the balance of skull to muzzle. Massive shiny white teeth with strong jaw and perfect scissor bite. Beautiful dark almond shaped eyes. Beard and eyebrows coming nicely. Super harsh coat texture which impressed for his age. Moved parallel away and back. Close decision for Best Dog, just preferred the better reach in front of the Open winner. Reserve Best Dog.

PGD (2,1) 1st Cairparavel Hartnell. Confident and bold young man. Very masculine head of balanced proportions. Loved his expression with dark almond eyes and neat smooth high set ears. Beautiful mouth with big clean teeth, strong jaw and scissor bite. Slightly broader in back skull. Shorter in neck and would like better angulation of his forequarters. Shorter in upper arm. Needs to strengthen in top line and carries his tail too high. Moves with drive from well angulated hindquarters and his strong hocks.

OD (3,2) 1st Silvae State Secret. Impressive stood and on the move. A beautifully balanced hound with matching angulation of front and hind quarters. Holds his top line well courtesy of long rib cage and short strong loin. Width to chest and well-developed sternum. Beautiful head with dark almond eye. Slight arch to muzzle, strong underjaw and big healthy-looking teeth. Coat of correct harsh with smart beard and bushy eyebrows. In hard muscular condition. Moves with freedom and a long stride; parallel away and back. Best Dog. Appeared a little shy today which just gave the Veteran Bitch the edge when it came to BOB as she was full of attitude and oozed confidence.

PB (3,1) Two 7 month old puppy bitches both with qualities and at different stages of development. 1st Something Audacious among Clanwillow. Immediately appealed in the balance of her head and her expression. I wrote ‘beautiful head’ with not one but two asterix. Dark almond eyes and rounded ears set high and framing her face. Long neck with slight arch. Well angulated and balanced forequarters. Front legs set well under her body. Good length of rib cage and width to her chest. Could be slightly shorter in loin for ideal but holds her top line stood and on the move. She drives from low hocks and moves very freely in side gait. Parallel away and back. Coat still developing. Best Puppy in Breed & Best Puppy in Show. 2nd Drakkina’s Gift Of Dragons. Like the winner she to appealed in head with her slightly arched muzzle the same length as her skull. Her almond eyes were nice and dark. Big clean teeth and perfect scissor bite. Not quite the length of rib of the winner so tended to dip slightly in top line when. Super well angulated hind quarters with strong hocks and neat feet. She doesn’t have the forequarter angulation of the winner but still moves with drive. Her short coat is already a super harsh texture and dense undercoat.

JB (4,2) 1st Carcorn Chrissy’s Girl. I really liked the overall balanced proportions, and her type immediately caught my eye. Sadly, something had upset her and she was very tense stood and lost her top line. Super head for balance, strong jaw, highs et rounded ears and dark almond eyes. Slightly arched neck into well laid shoulders and matching length of upper arm. Well-developed fore chest. Long rib cage and short, well-rounded loin. Carries tail off her top line which she holds on the move. Parallel away and back and shows long stride with drive from well angulated hindquarters. Harsh coat texture with furnishings on legs, little beard and eyebrows. Reserve Best Bitch. 2nd Bramalodge Boston Tea Party at Drakkina. She has a very nice head and expression with balance to her skull and muzzle. Bright, strong teeth with scissor bite and strength to her underjaw. Dark almond eyes. Obvious beard and bushy eyebrows. Good length of rib and a longer loin but holds her top line well and carries her tail low. She lacked strength in her hind quarters and moved to narrow going away. Not as clean coming towards as the winner. Today she was not in the best of jackets.

PGB (4,2) 1st Serengarth Queen Bee. I immediately noticed her overall body length to height ratio which appealed and she has very well angulated forequarters with an obvious fore chest. I thought she had a very beautiful and very typical head which was well balanced. She has dark expressive almond eyes and strength to her underjaw. Would like a fraction longer neck. She tends to dip in her top line when stood. Well angulated hind quarters with strong hocks which she uses to drive well away and shows a freedom of movement in side gait. Really lovely ‘digging’ feet which just turn out slightly. 2nd Clipperdown Vivien Leigh. Appealed in head and expression, Great teeth, strong underjaw and perfect scissor bite. Well-developed forechest chest and balance to her forequarters. Good length of her ribcage and longer in loin. Taller on leg which helps with overall balance. Holds top line well stood and on the move. Moved away very close behind and a little untidy coming towards. A very short coat but super harsh texture.

LB (3,2) 1st Drakkina Wirenth. A really sound bitch showing good overall balance and a typical silhouette. Well-proportioned head carried on long neck. Liked her almond eyes and while paler in colour they were typical for a chocolate. She has a long rib cage and short loin. Shows strength to her top line and her tail is set and carried perfectly. She only has moderately angulated forequarters and therefore her stride is not as long as ideal. Really well angulated hindquarters and strong hocks. Moves perfectly parallel away and back. Not in the best of coats but could still feel the harsh texture.
