Dachshund Club 2002

Judge: Judy Squires

LONG HAIRED

A good entry. Apologies for taking longer than normal to judge, especially at the beginning, this was due to me being a little careful as I had injured my back earlier in the week. I found mouths were good except for a few dirty teeth (not in Veteran) and one level bite. Quite a number with short ribbing but toplines were excellent. Exhibits are to be congratulated on presentation and condition of coats, absolutely gleaming and clean and nails (some lacked pigmentation) were 100% short.

PD (2) 1 Lawrence’s Peverleigh Solo Vision. Well boned b/t just out of minor puppy. Stood alone but deserved his position. Good head and fore chest. A little long in loin but good topline kept on the move. Rear movement still needs to settle but still a baby. Overall a well balanced p.

JD (2) 1 Smith’s Rodima Reach For Gold. Red d with good head and ribbing and correct topline and underline. Taller type than the p. Moved out smoothly and positively, holding his topline but just a touch close behind.

PGD (6) 1 Cooper and Steadman’s Darsoms Zuave At Merrygarth. Elegant, masculine head with dark eye. This red d was well muscled, had good reach of neck, well ribbed and short loin. Moved soundly but would like to see a little more enthusiasm in his showing especially on the move; 2 Alford’s Loxbar Private Murray At Deeseedax. Shaded red. Well boned and with good head, front and ribbing. Moved a trifle wide in front but went smoothly and with drive. Close decision between 2 and 3. Just preferred the head and eye of Private Murray and Matador didn’t do himself justice here; 3 Metcalfe’s Metadale Matador.

LD (10) Good class. 1 Oxley’s Larkhund Latest Destroyer At Owlery. V close decision between first three. Couldn’t take my eyes off my winner when he first entered the ring, unfortunately he was playing his owner up today which made him lose out in the challenge. Elegant, b/tan with lovely head and eye, prominent forechest, good reach of neck and correct shoulder placement and good angulation enabling him to drive round the ring keeping a good outline. A stubborn young man who couldn’t be denied his placing; 2 Metcalfe’s Metadale Make My Day. A lovely well boned b/tan d. Similar remarks apply as to my winner. Just preferred the overall drive of movement of Dark Destroyer but liked the head and size of Make My Day to my third placing; 3 Burke and Manston’s Bonavoir Cloneylogan.

OD (8) Another quality class. Spoilt for choice. 1 Jordan and Nightingale’s Rodima The Toff. Handsome, well boned b/tan d with good head and eye, correct neck and shoulder placement, prominent forechest, well ribbed and good hind angulation. Moved round the ring with drive showing his pads and keeping a firm topline. He holds his outline on the move and looks splendid in profile. Worthy winner of a strong class. Well handled. CC; 2 Burke and Manston’s Bonavoir Seven Sisters. A free moving hound. Also liked this elegant red v much. Similar remarks apply as to the winner. Well balanced and with good angulation fore and aft. Lovely outline in profile. Just preferred the spring of rib and overall width all through of The Toff. Close decision. Res CC; 3 McNaughton’s Elindean Othello Of Cedavoch.

VD (5) 1 Cooper and Steadman’s Ollyrue Hi Beri Gunner At Merrygarth. All veterans a credit to their owners. The dogs enjoyed their sausages. 8.5 yr old boy in a gleaming coat of shaded red. Seriously considered him in the challenge. Can show some of the youngsters a trick or two. V elegant, good head and shoulder placement, firm topline, good forechest and moved out smoothly and well keeping his good outline. BV. Looked really great in the big ring with the other oldies; 2 Atkins’ Ch Karamel Kreme. Another quality veteran who seemed to be really enjoying his day of showing. So sound and well balanced and moved out well. Also in great condition. Just preferred Hi Beri’s elegance on the day; 3 Chapman’s Witchespell War Lord.

MPB (7) 1 A class of raw, roly poly babies enjoying their day in the sun and that is how it should be at their age. The higher placings scored a little more today because of their more positive and settled movement. Time is on their side. Close decision between first three. 1 Leggett’s Ranglewood Aralia Of Sonsryms. Little sister to my 3rd placing); 2 Halsall’s Distinctive Dream For Kiddles. Both these puppies were well schooled and moved out well with their handlers keeping good outlines and toplines. Feminine, elegant and well boned and good angulation. Everything developing in the right places. Just preferred the rear angulation and low hocks of Aralia; 3 Garlick’s Ranglewood Angelica.

PB (6) Three super puppies. Bodes well for the future. Noticed first two had a lot of Darsoms breeding behind them. 1 Mitchell’s Darsoms Zophisticate Of Bronia. Attractive 10 mth well boned red b in good coat and so well handled. Feminine head, good forechest and reach of neck. Well ribbed, good angulation and low hocks and moved with drive keeping her lovely outline at all times. Shall follow her and her sisters future with interest. BP and BPIS. Congratulations; 2 Worth’s Merrygarth Bon Nuite With Hilmar. Similar remarks apply to this other red p. Just preferred Zophisticate’s overall movement on the day. Close; 3 Metcalfe’s Metadale Memories Of You.

JB (9) Another close decision between first three. 1 Geeson’s Abydachs Rock N Roll Dream. Mature, elegant red with good front assembly and rear angulation. Moved soundly especially in profile keeping her topline and pleasing outline. Well balanced all through; 2 Mitchell’s Darsoms Zerenity at Bronia. Litter sister to my BP. Feminine b/tan girl with good bone and most of her sister’s attributes. Lucky owner. Just needs time to develop. Preferred my winners overall elegance on the day. Looked a p in this class but one to watch. I liked Zerenity’s rear movement better than Kruggerand but Kruggerand had a great head. Splitting hairs between all three; 3 Clarke’s Tekalhaus Kruggerand.

PGB (12) 1 Lawrence’s Pevverleigh Follow The Vision. Attractive head with dark eye. Lovely outline when standing in a shining b/tan full coat. She moved out soundly with her handler keeping her topline but seemed a little lethargic today when moving. Perhaps she felt the heat; 2 Wedge’s Dolan Valentine Dream. Well balanced red b, cold not match the coat of my winner. Pleasing head and eye, good forechest and correct topline and underline. Sound mover. Preferred the elegance and reach of neck of my winner. Won over third place on her front movement; 3 Metcalfe’s Metadale My Way.

LB (8) I was told that my first two were litter sisters. Lucky/clever breeder. 1 Mitchell’s Metadale Moment Of Truth At Bronia. This b oozed quality. Correct size but well boned. Wonderful to go over on the table, all flowing lines. Lovely head and eye, elegant neck which flows down to good shoulders and firm topline. Well ribbed, short loin, low hocks, good angulation fore and aft and prominent forechest. Super to watch on the move with arrogant head carriage and really drove round the ring keeping her balanced outline at all times. So well handled. I really liked her. Quite a star in my eyes. A wonderful showgirl able to show off her attributes. CC and BOB; 2 Metcalfe’s Metadale Mountain Of Dreams. Another quality lady and well made exhibit. Shame they are in the same class. Similar remarks apply but Moment Of Truth scored on her flowing movement and beautifully balanced outline and just that star quality. I’m sure her time will come. Didn’t bring her out in the challenge for reserve as I knew my open winner was closer to what I wanted; 3 Chapman’s Melminds Melanee.

OB (10) 1 Larkins Swansford Leadora To Larkhund. Lovely exhibit. Quality girl again of correct size and proportions. She pressed hard in the challenge but just preferred the front assembly and back movement of Moment of Truth and her overall showmanship on the day, her time will come. V attractive b with lovely outline, similar remarks apply as to my ticket winner. Close decision. Again has good free action. So well handled. Res CC; 2 Oxley’s Owlery Dakota. Good front assembly and elegance that I look for in a Dachshund. Lovely, well balanced red with good body proportions. Prominent forechest, good ribbing and hind angulation. Moved with drive. Placed her over my 3rd (another quality b) as she was cleaner in shoulder. Made In Heaven was a little heavy especially over the shoulder; 3 Metcalfe’s Metadale Made In Heaven.
