Scottish Dachshund Club 2002
Dachshund ( Long Haired)
Judge: Jean Matthews
Congratulations to the above club for putting on such a brilliant Centenary Show. Thank you to the exhibitors who gave me such a good entry. On the minus side I found this variety sadly lacking in quality from a few years ago. So many with short ribbing & long loin. Forward shoulders have crept into the breed resulting in stuffy necks. The elegance which this lovely breed used to have seems to have gone, with a few exceptions in my winner, so has the thrust of hind movement - some are beginning to paddle. Found a few fluffy coats and 2 kinky tails, mouths were all correct and teeth clean!! I give the long owners 10 out of 10 for attention to feet, not one exhibit had long nails all well manicured and short which is something I have found sadly lacking in other coats, so there are some pluses.
PD (2) 1 Booth & Elsley’s Abbalongdat Name of the Game, v promising red d, lovely front head and eye, was impressed with his good muscled up condition particularly in his hind quarters, moved bse in his class would like a little further lay back of shoulder but then that applies to 2 also, v promising. 2 Holt’s Metadale Midnight Cowboy, needs to tighten up on his hind movement, otherwise nicely constructed d, lovely condition with a gleaming black and tan correct coat.
JD (4) 1 Swann & Robert’s Rodima Gold Knight at Swansford, large red d, beautiful top-line moving and standing, good shoulder construction, ribbing fair, good tight feet moved with verve. 2 Burke’s Bonavoir Clonylogan, another gleaming black and tan, won this place on his superb hind movement really showed his pads as he went away, not the confirmation of my winner but a v promising one for the future. 3 Warren’s Metadale Monte Carlo.
PGD (11) 1 Bainbridges Bronia Gigolo, shaded red, lovely head and eye, a well balanced d with better shoulders than most today, good hind quarters which he used to perfection. 2 Holts Cedovach Clandestne, at last an elegant d, good tight feet, well muscled on hindquarters, overall construction good moved ok. 3 Oxleys Larkhund Latest at Owlery.
LD (9) Not an easy class especially as these were more mature d’s, hind movement being worst problem here. 1 Burke/Manston’s Bonavoir Seven Sisters, stood out as soon as I saw him, liked everything I found about him, attractive correct red coat, elegant head and neck, better ribbing and conformation than I found on most, today he was a star for me, v eye-catching and sound all through, CC. 2 Booth & Elsley’s Abbalongdat Angel Eyes, another nice d typical of this kennel, placed today because of his good feet, reasonable shoulder placement and sound all over confirmation. 3 Edwards & Pankhurst’s Danward Sibelius.
OD (9) 1 Swann & Roberts’ Ch Swansford Lanador, well known d, classy shaded red, lovely shoulders, good front though a little overcoated to my liking, sound all through, moved like the Champion he is but today had to be content with the Res CC. 2 Atkins’ Kantis Komanchee, another worthy champion, elegant black and tan, well constructed moved out well. 3 Chapmans’ Witchespell Warlord.
PB (3) 1 Oxley’s Larkhund Latest Destroyer at Owlery, v nice golden red b, nice length of neck, good hindquarters, adequate ribbing, moved soundly, in the challengl for BP just had to give way to the p who just had the edge over her. 2 Booth & Eltisley’s Abbalongdat Ms Honey Honey, good p from this kennel preferred the overall conformation of my winner today, but things could reverse in the future as she is v young. 3 Atkins Kantis Krepe-Suzette.
JB (5) 1 Swann & Roberts’ Rodima Gold Mist Over Swansford, litter sister to my JD winner, v similar remarks apply, good confirmation, elegant when moving, good top-line, well presented. 2 Booth & Eltisleys Abbalongdat Miss Mama Mia, another litter mate, this time a p sister to my p d winner, v similar in construction and her movement won her BPIB. 3 Wedges’ Dolan Valentime Dream.
PGB (10) 1 Mitchells Metadale Moment of Truth at Bronia, as one would expect of a b sired by a great d she has quality, correct size, super coat, low to ground, good construction, correct size, moved true. 2 Cunningham’s Frankenwen merlot, completely different type from my winner but had good ribbing and length and moved and showed well. 3 Booth & Eltisley’s Abbalongdat Marionette.
LB (11) 1 Warren’s Ingeborg Danketina, this lovely lady stood out in this class, clear red, correct size, best of ribbing, good top-line, correct head and eye, good feet moved well, a typical long-haired outline, if she was campaigned more could go places, Res CC, much to her owners surprise. 2 Edwards & Pankhursts’ Danward Sympathy, cobbier black and tan b, good front, nice construction, could have better front feet, but she held her own in this large class. 3 Chapman’s Melminds Melanie.
OB (10) 1
Mitchell & Hanneys’ Bronia Gold Trinket, what an honest red b this is, not over
glamorous but to me the correct size, super head and eye, good reach of neck
because her shoulders are well laid back, good confirmation all round, moved and
showed well, CC and BOB. 2 Burkes’ Loggeta Laylanna with Bonavoir, a hard act to
follow my 1, a heavier b rather down on her front but with good topline and
movement. 3 McFaul’s Ch Darsoms Zaraminta.
