HOUNDSHOW 2003 Dachshund (Long Haired) Judge: Ruth
Lockett-Walters
I found much improvement in hindquarters since I last judged this variety, the dreaded tummy thumping seems now to be in the minority I am pleased to say. Shoulders and fronts seem to be strong especially in two of the top kennels so the stock is there to produce on to the future. The only real concern I had was pigmentation and there were several verging on level bites, these are faults that need to be nipped in the bud quickly. PD. (4). 1. Metcalfe’s, Metadale Macqaire. Very handsome shaded red with a superb front assembly. Good fellow through of ribbing. Sound quarters which he uses to the full. Nice clean outline, still a touch roly which is permissible in a puppy. Just needs to tighten up then he will trouble the best. 2. Cross’s, Bona Voir Beethoven with Loggeta. Smart typy b/t again front clean outline. Well constructed moves well. A lot to like about him. Not the front assembly of the winner. 3. Jordan and Nightingale’s, Rodima Dark Lord. JD. (3). 1. Swann and Robert’s, Swandsford Henrikador. My notes simply say ‘Outstanding”. Beautiful head, good eye shape and colour. Excellent pigment. Adequate reach of neck, most superb front and shoulder placement of the day. Well ribbed good strong muscular well angulated hindquarters and he powered around the ring keeping his lovely outline at all times. Was delighted to award him his crowning CC and BOB. 2. Leggett’s, Donnasach Prince Charming in Sonsrymes. Has a good clean outline. Lovely front assembly and ribbing. A touch narrow in the width of pelvis and consequently moves a touch close behind. However rear angulation is sufficient. 3. Edward and Pankhurst’s, Neropa Ace of Spades at Danward. PGD. (6). 1. Liddle’s, Morali Springbank. Pleasing head, neck, shoulder placement, topline and sufficient quarters. Well presented and shown, moves soundly would have preferred a touch more width in front. 2. Bongiovanni’s, Merrygarth Greve de Decq avec Ankors. Nice type, looks smart, front assembly ok. Rather short in the rib which affects his topline on the move. 3. Burke and Manston’s, Loggeta Intrepid from Bonavoir. LD. (7). 1. Wedge’s, Dolan Cupic Arrow. Shaded red presented to perfection. Good head and eye, good pigment. Sufficient neck, well assembled front and shoulder placement, good length and spring of ribbing. Well muscled and angulated quarters, which he uses to the full. Needs to keep his happy tail under control. RCC. 2. Holt’s, Metadale Midnight Cowboy. B/t super front. Overall very sound. Unlucky to meet winner, just preferred the width of the back action of winner. 3. Strachan’s, Calderpark Limited Edition. OD. (7). 1. Oxley’s, Larkhund Latest Destroyer at Owlery. He caught my eye the moment he came into the ring. Presented to perfection, superb front assembly. Lovely head, reachy neck, good topline. Stunning profile on the stack. Moves true coming and going. Unfortuntaely his rear action lets him down when watching the side gait. 2. Metcalfe’s, Metadale Make my Day. B/t. Another well made exhibit from this kennel with super front and shoulder which consistently comes through on all of their stock. Well ribbed, good hindquarters. Unfortunately in the middle of changing coat which did diffuse the topline. He is made correctly but the way he had coated out appeared to rub on the rump. 3. McNaughton’s, Eldindean Othello of Cedavoch. V (4). 1. Atkin’s, Ch. Kantis Karamel-Kreme. A very worthy Champion that still looks the part. Presented and shown to perfection a real credit to his owners for his superb condition. 2. Burfitt’s, Dandydayo Melody Maker at Fragglerock. Again super condition for a veteran beaten by first on front assembly. 3. Geeson’s, Abydach Viking. PB. (5). 1. Mitchell and Hanney’s, Swansford Voennadora of Bronia. BP. 2. Swan and Robert’s, Swansford Vivadora. My judges book says ‘peas from the same pod’ I then discovered from the catalouge they are litter sisters. Two really well made lovely girls which I am sure will battle it out all the way and take it in turn to change places. I just preferred first to second as she has a touch more pro-sternum and has just a little more length. 3. Atkins’, Larkhund Quietly Kreme at Kantis. JB. (4). 1. Swan and Robert’s, Swansford Kiadora. Litter sister to my BOB in many ways I like her better she is a beautifully constructed. Moves like a dream and a real joy to go over. She oozes quality and such a nice feminine size. Lovely colour excellent pigment. She’s not quite ready, look forward to following her progress. Has the makings of a certain Champion. Wish she was mine. RCC. 2. Halligan’s, Swansford Heatherdora. Quality bitch of a totally different type. Well made with a lot to like about her. Moves soundly but her handler needs to gain confidence to do her justice. SpBEGIN (4). 1. Atkins and Harwood’s, Kantis Kreme-Fraiche. Sweet head, good clean neck. Pleasing front and shoulder. Good bone and feet. Sufficient rib and balanced quarters. Moved soundly. 2. Newport’s, Merrygarth Greve D’Azette. Well presented and shown. The winner has much better front. PGB. (11). 1. Liddle’s, Morali Kinlaith. A very pleasing bitch to go over. Lovely feminine head and expression. Has a very good front when gone over. Although her handler stes her up narrow she is not. Has plenty of heart room. Good shoulder placement and ribbing. Super topline and moves soundly. Won this class with ease. 2. Geeson’s, Abydach Modern Girl. Very glamorous and of lovely type. Well shown and presented. Not the soundness of front as the winner. 3. Leggett’s, Ranglewood Aralia of Sonsrymes. LB. (7). 1. Metcalfe’s, Metadale Mountain of Dreams. Quality bitch which is all of a piece. Pleasing head, good reach of neck, good pigment. Good bone and feet. Excells in front assembly, superb shoulders, good spring and length of ribbing. Strong well muscled quarters which she uses to the full when powering around the ring. I felt she was the perfect partner in type and quality to the dog. CC. 2. Mitchell’s, Darsoms Zerenity at Bronia. B/t Totally different type. Lovely clean outline. Well proportioned and constructed. Well presented and moves true. Perhaps has the edge on hind angulation to first, but I just preferred the front construction of the winner. I am sure these two will change places many times. 3. McNaughton’s, Cedavoch Sudden Impulse. OB. (6). 1.
Mitchell’s, Darsoms Zophisticate of Bronia. Shaded red that unfortunately was
not in her best jacket. Soundly made of good length and overall balance. Moves
well keeping her outline at all times. 2. Geeson’s, Ch. Abydach Give me the
Future. B/t a worthy Champion. Quality exhibit, soundly made, beautifully
presented and shown. Just preferred the width of front on winner. 3. Swan and
Roberts’, Rodima Gold Myst over Swansford.
