BIRMINGHAM NATIONAL 2004 Dachshund (Long Haired) Judge: Mr G Hill

LONG HAIRED
Thanks to all the exhibitors for a wonderful entry and to have only 3 absentees was an added bonus. Overall I was pleased with the quality, especially my winners. In the higher classes I wished I had more red cards. This is a breed I really enjoyed and always pleased to judge.
MPD. (3). 1. Mitchell’s, Bronia Monte Cristo. Mature quality youngster. Masculine all through. Head of good length and shape with well set ears. Impressive in forechest and front assembly. Body of good length and proportions. Pleasing profile. Topline and nice angulated hindquarters of width. Best of movers. True with purpose. BP and RCC. 2. Geeson’s, Abydachs Rocks my World. Another well constructed exhibit of similar age. Maturity and quality as winner. Longer cast than the winner. Typier the description. Long and low and level. Not the development and width in forechest of winner. Moved out freely, good extension in front but a little close behind. 3. Goodsell’s, Bronia Monte Carlo. Making up a trio of quality pups. All of the type I like. Good in front and forechest, and has the look of his brother who won this class. Would prefer more width in front and rear both standing and on the move.
PD. (3). 1. Grimes’s, Mondricia Mr Ed. Typy b/t. Pleasing in head and expression. Good length of neck. Good front and forechest. I liked his body length and topline. Perhaps could have more let down behind. True front and tight elbows. Moved out well in front, but would like more width behind. 2. Chapman’s, Melminds Master Copy. Another quality type youngster who needs more confidence which tended to make him crouch and detracted from his profile and coat him the class. One I liked a lot and is of similar make and shape to winner. Another who moved out well in front but would like more hind width. 3. Metcalfe’s, Metadale Master Craftsman. Typy b/t of pleasing profile and proportions. In impressive coat and condition. Would prefer more pronounced forechest. Nonetheless good angles front and rear. Moved freely but a little close in front but good drive behind.
JD. (8). 1. Negus’s, Shardaroba Rigel by Tarramist. Shaded red who particularly impressed in head and expression. Pleasing o.a profile and balance. Well constructed in front with distinct prominent breast bone. True front, nice tight elbows. Good length of body. I liked his spring and depth and ribbed well back. Well angled hindquarter of width. Best mover of the class. 2. Metcalfe’s, Metadale Macquaire. Well constructed quality male of good type. Pleasing o/a length and proportions but did not help profile by crouching when standing. Pleasing angles front and rear. An honest quality exhibit with nothing in exaggeration. Moved out well. Good front extension. Close behind. 3. Cooper and Steadman’s, Alex’s Favourite with Merrygarth. Typy red in good compact. Well made and good o/a profile. Preferred forequarters of second.
PGD. (5). 1. Lawrence’s, Peverleigh Solo Vision. Pleasing quality b/t. Best conformation of the class. Masculine head and expression. Of good shape and balance. Perhaps would like more length of neck to provide a finished profile. Nicely constructed in front with good lay back of shoulder and tight elbows. Good hindquarters. Moved well with good front extension but was closer behind than I prefer. 2. Garlick’s, Ranglewood Benedict. Strong masculine headed exhibit. Pleasing profile. Needs to tighten all through. Plenty of body length with good topline. Well angulated front and rear. Moved out freely. Good front extension but unsettled behind. 2. Gore’s, Frankanwen Frascati for Georgessa. Mature well made male. Good overall length, profile and proportions. Would prefer more width in front and rear which I’m sure would help him on the move.
LD. (5). 1. Negus’s, Shardaroba Midnight Sun at Tarramist. Super quality well coated masculine male of the make and shape I like. Impressive head and expression. Well constructed front, body and hindquarters. Good prominent forechest. Balanced in angulation front and rear. Pleasing overall proportions and profile. Best of movers. True. Good width and with purpose. 2. Oxley’s, Owlery Australord. Another well made exhibit, slightly heavier in head than winner. True well angulated front and shoulders. Good overall body. Topline and well angulated hindquarters. Moved out well. Good in front but preferred hind action of winner. 3. Cooper and Steadman’s, Darsoms Zuave at Merrygarth JW. Super type and quality of the make and shape that I prefer. Well constructed and similar comment of first and second apply, but was unsettled on the move which cost him a higher place.
OD. (6). 1. McFaul’s, Ch/Ir Ch. Darsoms Zwagerson. An eye catcher both standing and moving. A shaded red of excellent quality in tip top condition and in his prime. Soundly constructed all through. Balanced in profile. Correct angulation front and rear. True in front, good width. Sound in hindquarters with width and strength which showed well on the move. A dog who has presence and personality plus needed to make a special Champion. My DCC and BOB winner. 2. Hiolt’s, Metadale Midnight Cowboy. A quality b/t in eye catching coat and condition. Mature and well constructed. Good front and forechest. True sound front on good feet. Tight in elbows. Good body length and depth. Moved out well. Good in front but close and loose behind. 3. Burke and Manston’s, Ch. Bonavior Seven Sisters. Another lovely quality type. Not disgraced in premier company. Pleasing profile and balance when standing but let himself down on the move.
MPB. (5). 1. Burfitt and Perry’s, Fragglerock Guardian Angel. Well grown, well coated quality youngster. Typical head of good shape and balance. Well developed forequarters. Sound front and feet. Body of good depth and length with pleasing topline. Full broad hindquarters, well angled. Moved out well and free. Very mature for age. 2. Barrow’s, Frankanwen Hi-Babe. Quality feminine exhibit having a super head and expression. Good overall profile and balance. True in front but not yet the development in forequarters as winner. Good overall length of body and topline. Well angulated hindquarters. Moved well in profile but a little close and unsettled in front. 3. Cunningham and Gore’s, Frankanwen High Sierra for Georgessa. Another nicely made feminine youngster. Similar in make and shape to second, but needs to firm up which will assist profile and movement.
PB. (3). 1. Grimes’s, Mondricia Regal Holly. Quality feminine b/t who stood out in this class. I liked her head and expression. Excelled in forechest and front assembly. Good length of neck carried well on the move. Body of good length and depth with typical topline. Well let down hindquarters of good width. Moved truly coming and going but lacked a little purpose. 2. Plevin’s, Saucy Sara at Rodima. Another well constructed b/t. A little heavier all through than winner. Feminine head and eye. Pleased with her overall body proportions and topline. Good angles front and rear. Let herself down on the move. Free in profile but a little close behind. 3. Newport’s, Dark Enchantress.
JB. (6). 1. Burke and Manston’s, Loggeta Super Trouper from Bonavoir. Typy quality b/t. Well made all though. Lovely head and expression. Good front and forequarters. Nice tight elbows. Body of good length, spring and depth. Pleasing topline. Well let down hindquarters of good width. Best mover of the class. Free and true with good drive. 2. Warke’s, Glasvey You Nique. Feminine r. Well constructed but lacked the courage to have this class, and consequently her profile and movement suffered. However, I liked her type and construction and I am sure she will grow on well and will have better days. 3 Cross’ Loggeta High Society. Nicely constructed, a little smaller in stature to 2nd, but longer cast. Lacked furnishings, but otherwise a pleasing exhibit, who will only improve with maturity.
PGB (9) 1 Warke’s Glasvey Bobby’s Girl. Typy quality red, of the make and shape I like. Well made all through, soundly constructed front with good forechest. Well constructed body of good length and depth. Pleasing topline and overall profile. Moved out well in front and with good drive behind. Good coat and condition. 2 Cross’ Bonavoir Singing the Blues at Loggeta. A b/t quality mature bitch of similar qualities to winner. Carrying a bit too much weight for me. True front, good lay back of shoulder with good tight elbows. Body of good length and of course substance. She has a classic feminine head which impressed. Moved out well with good extension and drive. 3 Garlick’s Ranglewood Bryony. Another well made quality exhibit, making a trio of good bitches to top this numerically strong class.
LB (8) 1 Metcalfe’s Metadale My Way. Super quality r who won this class on overall balance and proportions in profile. The best of profiles when standing. Well constructed all through. Lovely typy head and feminine expression. Sound in front and behind, with all the angles to the right places. Moved true but lacked drive and purpose, which cost her in the challenge. Res BCC. 2 Clarke’s Tekalhaus Krugerrand. An impressive deep red, quality mature feminine exhibit of the type I like. LOvely head and expression. Good length of neck and body. True front, well angled shoulders and hindquarters. Pleasing topline. Moved out well, but a little unsettled - especially on the move. 3 Atkins’ Larkhund Quietly Kreme at Kantis. Shaded red of obvious quality. A bitch of great stature. Moved out well with plenty of purpose and extension. Well made all through, would like to see in full bloom. Obvious quality which I am sure will show through for better days ahead.
OB (5) 1 Mitchell’s Ch Darsoms Zophisticate of Bronia. Shaded red of outstanding quality in a similar vein to that of the DCC winner. Super construction all through. Impressive in profile. Balanced make and shape. Particularly impressed in front assembly and forechest. In good coat and condition. Confident, proud head carriage. Moved out well with drive and extension. Super advert for the breed. Bitch CC. 2 Metcalfe;s Metadale Mountain of Dreams. Another super exhibit, pleasing head and expression. Although well made, of slightly different lines to the winner. Another with a good topline. Well constructed front and rear of good width when standing, but was close on the move, especially behind. 3 Warke’s Ch & Ir Ch Darsoms Zanatasia.
