LONG HAIRED
Championship Show First I would like to thank the officers and committee for putting on such a well run show. Also to the exhibitors for their good manners and sporting attitude. I am concerned that for some time now the litter registrations and show entries have been falling, which has resulted in the loss of some sets of CCs. Although Standard Longs have never been numerically large, I can remember the days when we would have about 70-80 dogs at a show. Sadly, we still see the old faults, mainly belly tapping and lack of drive. On the whole I found toplines much bette, although some are well loaded in shoulder. I found it difficult to have a good line up as type and depth of quality were lacking, however I did find what I was looking for in my final winners, and wish them all well in their future careers. I fully appreciate the problems facing breeders today, the decline in registrations ultimately results in a small gene pool. It’s good to see that breeders are trying to address this using overseas bloodlines, with careful thought and planning this could well be the way forward. Of course, there may be problems from using unknown bloodlines, but they may well excel in areas where we lack. I wish every success to those working towards this coat. Although I love all Dachshunds, Standard Longs are very special to me and I would be willing to help in any way I can. PD 1 Abbalongdat Mr SOS. Lovely head, super front and very good hindquarters.
