Birmingham National Dog Show 2006 Dachshund (Long Haired) Judge: Mrs F M Winchurch

I enjoyed my day’s judging helped by the very sporting way the exhibitors took my placings of some lovely dogs. Presentation overall was very good and only a couple of suspect temperaments. Some extremely close decisions had to be made to separate some competitive quality exhibits in the higher classes.
PD. (2). 1. Johnson’s, Tiendown Velvet Commander at Africandawns. 10 months old. Masculine shd red. Good head, nice eye, front, topline and underline. Strong easy mover. Nice type. BPD.
JD. (3). 1. Jordan and Nightingale’s, Swansford Griffindor at Rodima. 17 months old shd red in good coat. Pleasing head and expression. Nice front. Good shoulder. Nice ribbing. Good quarters giving firm sound movement. 2. Hopwood’s, Abydachs Night Train. 14 months old quality black and tan. Pleasing to go over. Moved out well but topline needs to firm. 3. Wardel’s, Ranglewood Euphrasia at Dystelegh.
PGD. (2). 1. Robert’s, Swansford Lyrenstan Picasso. 14 months old quality shaed red. Everything in the right place. Strong sound mover keeping a lovely outline. 2. Goodman’s, Rokerpark Just William. 17 months old red in good coat. Nice front and shoulders. Correct ribbing, strong quarters. Sound mover. He has a happy go lucky temperament which is easy to libe with but so hard to get the best out of him.
LD. (7). 1. McFaul’s, Dachville Distant Dream. 19 months old. Super red. Nice size teams with quality. Lovely head and expression. Correct arched neck fitting into shoulders. Good front and ribbing. Strong quarters. Loooked a picture both standing and on the move. That distant dream has now become a reality as this is a very good prospect to follow in the footsteps of his well known sire and start to trouble the best. Delighted to award him the CC his second and BOB. Perform as he did on the day his third cannot be far away. 2. Negus’s, Shardaroba Rigel by Tarramist. Have judged him before and have liked his good overall construction. Unfortunately not moving at his best on the day. 3. Cook and Rhodes’, Bournder Emerald Star.
OD. (1). 1. Edwards and Pankhurst’s, Neropa Ace of Spades. Another I have judged previously and admired. Quality black and tan. Lovely to go over and I find him hard to fault. Just would like him to sparkle a little more when moving, but unlucky to meet the Limit winner on the day on such good form. RCC.
PB. (6). 1. Boyle’s, Zarcrest Oh Gosh I’m Posh. 7 months old quality red baby of promise. Super head and expression. Good reach of neck. Correct front and shoulders. Nicely ribbed body. Good quarters. Looked a picture when standing and when she settled with her young handler. She moved out well keeping good outline. Shall watch her progress with interest. 2. Warke’s, Loggeta Spicey Stuff. 10 months old. Another quality bitch puppy in lovely coat and condition. Very pleasing to go over as she is nicely put together. Well handled and was very close up to winner, but just preferred the head of the winner. 3. Furber’s, Dorysa Starry Night.
JB. (7). 1. Geeson’s, Abydachs Hot Summer Nights. A lot to like about this one. Lovely coat and condition. Good head and well balanced quarters. Good top and underline. A sound positive mover. 2. Palin’s, Rodima Bewitched by Sanmik. Smart black and tan with nice head, front and shoulders. Correct ribbing. Another sound and positive mover. 3. Negus’s, Tarramist Waterloo Sunset.
PGB. (8). I found three lovely bitches to head this class and would have liked a red card for each. All three a pleasure to go over. Shown in lovely condition. Very feminine and a nice size. Could change positions on another day. Preferred the head of winner but almost gave it to the second on movemen, with the third very close up to both. A difficult decision. 2. Edward’s, Amber Nectar at Danward. 2. McNaughton’s, Cedavoch Bewitched. 3. Cunningham and Gore’s, Frankanwen High Sierra for Gorgessa.
LB. (5). 1. Boyle’s, Frankanwen High Life on Zarcrest. Clear red nicely balanced. Good head and expression. Lovely neck with that slight arch, correct front and strong rear giving positive sound movement. Lovely picture standing with good top and underline. In lovely condition and well handled to give off her best and take the CC her third. 2. Mitchell’s, Broina Carmelita JW. Clear red feminine, lovely outline. Good front and rear. Strong free flowing mover. Again so well handled. 3. Surrell’s, Bokra Jazz.
OB. (4). First three class bitches contested this class. 1. Mitchell’s, Ch. Bronia Marionette. Very appealing black and tan in lovely condition. Have judged her before and liked everything about her and when she saw off the strong opposition in this class I thought she culd be my ticket winner but she became so unsettled in the challenge she had to settle for RCC. 2. Robert’s, Ch/ Rodima Gold Myst over Swansford. A very worthy Champion. Everything in the right place and she to could move with verve. Not quite the finish of winner. 3. ,McFaul’s, Dachville Perfect Blend.
