LONGHAIRED
Many thanks to the committee of the Dachshund Club of Wales for inviting me to judge at this most friendly of shows. My Stewards made my day all the more enjoyable for which I thank them. My findings were accepted with a good grace and sportsmanship and it was a pleasure for me. Thank you. The Longhaired is of course the big glamour cousins, and they lived up to their reputation. All were well presented and clean with just a very few needing dental care. Temperaments are first class with no ‘iffy’ exhibits. Feet on the whole were tight and nails well worn. If one has to make a general comment of concern it would be in the area of skulls which at times were worringly broad and coarse. Movement also needs to be addressed with in a few cases wide and uneven front movement and at the rear end some were close and combined with ‘tummy tapping’. There was a variation in sizes, some big and others smaller. I did not penalise this as quality and balance was evident in both. MPD. (3). 1. Dares’, The Hustler from Darsoms. Well grown 7 months old dog. Fabulous head, well angulated shoulders with good spring, topline was slightly loose and needs to tighten when moving, but he has plenty of time. Well boned and apart from topline comment, he moved the best of the class. 2. Clarke’s, Teindawn Black Velvert to Hilmas. This dog has super hind angulation. Lovely feet and a handsome head. Again the topline needs to strengthen but at again 7 months there is time. 3. Wilson’s, Rogermardex Senor Simon. PD. (3). 1. Oxleys’, Owelry Valentine. A glamorous promising b/t 11 months old. He is a very good mover particularly in front. Prosternum is good accompanying a well laid shoulders. Strong body construction and nice hind end which he can use well. BPD. 2. Robert’s, Swanford Lyrenstan Picasso. This puppy will show his virtues off to a better advantage when he learns a little ring craft. He is imposing shaded red dog with great bone. Good front assembly, topline and underline are correct. He is full of himself that movement is difficult to assess, but I managed to snatch a quick look and it pleased. 3. Alford and Worth’s, Swansford Pukkador at Deeseedax. JD. (4). 1. McFaul’s, Dachville Distant Dream. Really misbehaving on the move, but the handler got enough out of him to see that he is top quality. A nicely balanced, beautifully presented, excellent head, good bone, super shoulders and coat. When he does get his act together I will watch with interest. 2. Newport’s, Rodimar Welsh Wizard. B/t with a rather light tan. Charming head, good angles and a nicely balanced dog. Moved quite well. 3. Jordan and Nightingales’, Swansford Griffindor at Rodimar. PGD. (6). 1. Cooper and Steadman’s, Blue Velvet at Merrugarth. By far the best mover in the class. He is a dark tanned b/t. Great prosternum. Lovely angles which create the necessary ‘balance’, excellent condition. 2. Wharton’s, Swansford Vanador. A little heavier headed dog. Lovely coat, correct feet. I would like a little more animation. Moved quite well. 3. Burke and Manston’s, Loggeta Antrim Boy from Boneavoir. LD. (9). 1. Clarke’s, Tekalhaus Masterpiece Sh CM. CC and BOB. A stunning mahogany red dog of consequence. He presented a picture of grace and quality and balance. Great conical head with pleasing expression, carried by the most elegant of necks. This lead onto well placed shoulder and not over exaggerated front assembly His body is well muscled and strong with correct spring of rib. A hind end which he uses with ease. This all covered by a glamorous rich coat in sparkling condition. 2. Geeson’s, Abydachs Oh What a Night. A shaded red dog of good proportions. Lovely head and great feet. Correct in front and moved well. Unlucky to meet Masterpiece on the day. 3. Barrow’s, Metadale Moon Dancer from Frankanwen. OD. (6). 1. McFaul’s, Ch Ir/Ch Int/ Ch. Darsoms Zwagerson. RCC. A very glamorous yet masculine dog. Presented (as are all this exhibitor’s dogs) in immaculate order. Lovely size, great feet, such a nice head and a super mover. Pushed hard for the ticket. Close. 2. Oxley’s, Ir Ch. Larkhund Latest Destroyer at Owlery. Sounds like a demolition unit. I liked the overall picture of balance and masculine elegance. Preferred the feet of winner. 3. Mitchell’s, Ch. Bronia Monte Cristo. MPB. 1. Furber’s, Dorysa Starry Night. This little one stood alone, but she made a good account of herself. Feeling a bit ‘frisky’ if you know what I mean and this may well have had an effect on her movement. A sweetie. PB. (7). 1. Oxley’s, Owlery edi Lamar. BPB. A gleaming b/t. Great front and shoulder. She moves well with verve. I think she will mature into something rather special. Has time on her side. 2. Geeson’s, Abydachs Hot Summer Nights. An aloof expression draws the attention of this baby. She has correct front and back angles and stands on correct feet. Nice temperament. Could do with a little more ear feathering, but that will come with time. 3. Wharton’s, Swansford Phillydora. JB. (3). 1. McFaul’s, Dachsville Perfect Blend. An extremely feminine balanced b/t. Great topline and underline. Muscles to envy. Correct feet. Moved well. RCC. 2. Dare’s, Bronia Stylistic to Darsoms. Slightly more on the leg than winner. She has a classic head. Lovely fore chest and front assembly. Good topline. Moved well. Quality bitch, balanced. Duchesne’s, Bonavoir Maid of Honour at Skandell. PGB. (6). 1. Burfitt and Perry’s, Fragglerock Guardian Angel. Quite a surprise this one. She has lots of quality with correct angles both ends. Good feet. Correct front. I should have preferred a slightly darker eye. Moved well. 2. Edwards and Pankhurst’s, Amber Nectar at Danward. Red balanced and level. Smaller than some, but I rather liked her. 3. Newport’s, Dark Enchantress at Rodimar. LB. (10). 1. Mitchell’s, Bronia Carmelita. A really well balanced and well structured bitch with a fabulous prosternum. Lovely quarters and she moves well. Nicely handled. 2. Roberts’, Swansford Kiadora. Beautifully presented smaller bitch. Similar comments apply as for winner with the exception that on the day there was a slight loss of topline over the hindquarters. 3. Boyles’, Mondricia Regal Holly. OB. (2). 1. Ch. Bronia Marionette. A most glamorous quality bitch. She was a bit skittish on the day. Very balanced throughout with an enviable structure. Moved with strength and accuracy. CC. 2. Wilson’s, Brianolf Honey Bun. Not in her best bib and tucker on the day. She is a pretty bitch. I preferred the movement of the winner.
