LONG HAIRED
I would like to thank the exhibitors for their
entry and for the sporting way in which all decisions were accepted. I had some
very difficult decisions to make at times but the judge is required to place
dogs 1 to 5 and many at the bottom of the class could easily be winning 1st
prize on another day. I was spoilt for choice when it came to handing out CCs
and especially when choosing my BOB. My thanks also to my stewards who kept the
ring moving in a most professional way which is a great asset to any judge.
VD (4) 1 Metcalfe-Bilgin’s Ch Metadale Maquarie. Super Dark
Shaded red boy who I made BOB last time I awarded CCs in the breed. I still
think he is an excellent L/H dachshund. He has an elegant head carriage, is very
correct in construction. His dark shaded red coat is in top condition, and he
moves soundly with arrogance  keeping a good outline at all times. This time he
gave way to youth but took a well deserved Res.CC. 2 McFaul’s Ch/Ir Ch/Int Ch
Darsoms Zwagerson. Another lovely Ch who I have long admired. Lighter shaded red
with the type of head and eye I most admire. At nearly 10 years old he is pretty
hard to beat when on form but today he seemed more interested in smells on the
carpet than in showing off his many virtues. As we were 2nd in the ring maybe
there had been an ‘interesting’ lady in the previous breed. Never-the-less he is
a very well constructed boy who moves soundly with correct outline. 3 Wharton’s
Swansford Vanador. Another red boy with correct construction who moved well but
was just outshone by the two super-stars ahead of him.
SpPD (7,1) 1 Roberts’s Swansford Dumbledor. Dark Red young dog
of 11 months. Masculine head on good neck and shoulders, well constructed body.
Moved soundly with purpose covering the ground well. When he fines down with
maturity should trouble the best. 2 Marks’s Brynalyn Warrier Via Labbadax.
Another nice dark red boy. Good head and eye. Prominent forechest, well ribbed
body. Sound mover. 3 Metcalfe-Bilgin’s Metadale Major Impression. Lighter red
boy of lovely type. Very good head and expression. Good body proportions. Moved
soundly when he got his act together but not giving his handler an easy time.
With more ring training could have been placed higher.
SpJD (3) 1 McNaughton’s Cedavoch Kaballah. Very well constructed young
B/T dog elegant head carriage on good neck. Moved soundly with flowing side
gait. 2 Booth & Elsley’s Abbalongdat The Visitor. Light red boy. Good head and
expression. Lovely body shape which he kept both standing and moving. Moved
soundly but unfortunately was a little unsettled. 3 Chapman’s Melminds Mr Magoo.
Light red boy. Good head and eye. Slightly high tailset and I would prefer
darker nails.
PGD (10,1) 1 Cross’s Logetta John Collins. Elegant red dog with lovely
head and eye. Well ribbed body with good angulation both fore and aft moved
soundly keeping a super outline. 2 Duchnesne, handling for Burke & Manston’s
Bonavoir Trade Secret. B/T dog of different type to winner. Well made
throughout. Good body length. Moved out well. 3 Dare, Cooper & Steadman’s
Darsoms Zamaras By Merrygarth. B/T Dog. Good head and eye. Correct flat coat.
Moved soundly. Not much separating these two.
LD (12,2) 1 Eldridge & Swann’s Metadale Morgenhof. Shaded red
with great reach and drive on the move. His movement was sound both ways and he
kept a correct outline standing and moving. I liked his head and length of neck
and correct body construction. 2 Sutton’s Damai Master Benedict. Heavier type
b/t with lovely coat in excellent condition. Good head with dark eye. Well
angulated both ends. Moved out well. 3 Vine’s Bokra Espionage. Shaded red boy.
Good head and eye. Well ribbed body. Moved soundly keeping a correct topline.
OD (10,1) 1 Oxley’s Ch/Ir Ch Owlery Valentine JW ShCM. Very smart B/T
boy. Topped a very good open class and  I have never seen him looking better.
Unfortunately the judge only has 1 CC and 1 RCC but on another day he could have
taken top honours. He has a good head and eye elegantly carried. Super
construction with correct angles. Coat in sparkling condition. Moved smartly and
soundly. 2 McFaul’s Ch/Ir Ch Dachville Distant Dream. Have always admired this
dog and indeed last time I judged I awarded him the RCC. He is beautifully
constructed and sound but today just not pulling out all the stops. 3 Dare’s Ch
Bronia Salvador Of Darsoms. Loved this dog when I saw him as a puppy at one of
his first shows. He is of lovely type. Very well constructed and sound in
movement keeping a good outline at all times. I just wish there was a little
less of him.
Good Citizen Dog Scheme (2) If I had been told I would
find my CC winner in this class I wouldn’t have believed it because although I
admire the GC Scheme I find it a strange classification for a show, especially
Crufts. I always think they should demonstrate their ability and be judged on
that. However, the winner Geeson’s Ch Abydachs Oh What A Night is a super shaded
red boy and doesn’t he know it. He has the most lovely head with correct eye.
Excellent front, ribbing shoulders and quarters. He moved soundly and absolutely
flowed around the ring. I loved his size, his coat condition was perfect and it
was a very difficult decision for BOB. Absolutely splitting hairs. The slightly
longer and lower outline of the bitch just tipped it for me. Thank you for
showing him under me. 2 Rees’s Loxbar Master Mercantor At Aquarelle. B/T of
heavier type. Moved OK.
VB (3) Three red ladies enjoying their day. 1 Halsall’s
Distinctive Dream For Kiddles. Dream had the soundest movement in the class
which won her the day. She has a correct flat coat covering a well ribbed body
with good angulation. 2 Sutton’s Dolan Cupid Golden Dawn At Damai. Lovely headed
bitch on good neck. Correct angulation but her front movement let her down. 3
Plevin’s Morali Caol Ila. Another nice one for size and length to height but was
rather over crooked in front.
SpPB (7) 1 & BPIB Roberts’s Swannsford Dipsydora. B/T with
exquisite head and eye. Perfect size. Beautifully constructed and sound moving.
I will watch this one. Must surely be a star of the future. 2 Metcalfe-Bilgin’s
Metadale Moment In Time. Lovely red girl. She needs to gain more confidence but
once she does she will press hard for the top spot. Everything is there in the
right proportions. 3 Lewis’s Zarcrest Caught Cha Lookin At Trixhund. B/T with
good head and eye. Nice flat coat. Well constructed. Moved soundly. Just a shade
higher on the leg than the two above.
SpJB (9,1) 1 McNaughton’s Cedavoch Sorceress. This bitch was a serious
contender for the RCC. It was a close decision between 3 bitches. Red girl with
strong head and eye. Good front construction and hind angulation. Lovely tight
feet. She moved with precision, sound as a bell and held her topline at all
times. 2 Garlick’s Ranglewood Genista. B/T. Lovely bitch to go over on the
table. Good head and eye. Well ribbed body with correct angulation. Good feet.
Moved well. 3 Dunbar’s Bronia Cascade. Red bitch of heavier type. Moved well to
take 3rd place in a good class.
PGB (11,1) 1 Chapman’s Darsoms Ziana At Melminds. Lovely  red bitch
with good head and eye. I liked her length to height ratio. Correct construction
and sound movement. 2 Garlick’s Ranglewood Evelyn. Very nice B/T bitch. A little
longer cast than 1st. Lovely head & eye. Good body shape. Moved out well with
good hind drive. 3 Metcalfe-Bilgin’s Metadale My Oh My. Another very good red
from this consistent kennel. Liked her head and eye and body shape but she was
just carrying too much weight today.
LB (9,1) This was a really good class. 1 Dare’s Darsoms Zienna. Super
red bitch who really pressed hard for top honours. She has lovely head and eye,
good reach of neck. Correct shoulders and hind angulation. Correct size. Moved
with verve keeping a good outline at all times. 2 McNaughton’s Cedavoch
Mystique. B/T. Another great bitch. So well constructed. Sound with good
outline. 3 Mitchell’s Bronia Devil Woman JW. Good red bitch completed a trio of
top quality exhibits. Liked her head and eye carried on strong neck into
correctly constructed body. Held topline well on the move and moved soundly and
freely.
OB (9,2) This was another super class and all 5 placed bitches were
worthy of a CC. 1, CC & BOB McFaul’s Ch/Ir Ch Dachville Perfect Blend. It must
have been a perfect blend. She is beautiful I have judged her before and awarded
her the CC last time as well. My notes just say ‘fantastic still! I love her’.
She is black and tan with a classic head and correctly shaped, dark eye. She
carries her head proudly on good neck. Her coat is flat, in good condition,
covering a super body. Her movement is a joy to behold. 2 & Res CC after a
battle royal with the JB and LB winners. Geeson’s Ch Abydach Hot Summer Nights
JW. Super red. Pressed the winner hard. Lovely head. Good reach of neck.
Prominent forechest. Good hind angulation which she used to advantage on the
move. 3 Mitchell’s Ch Bronia Enchantress JW. Lovely red bitch. It was literally
splitting hairs between all these bitches. She is very well constructed and
moved very well.
GCSB (4,1) 1 Distinctive Dream For K. 2 Dimon’s Laraine Diamond Lassie
For Dimerlin. Shaded red of similar type to winner but not so well let down
behind. Moved ok. 3 Dimon’s Laraine Truly Faye For Dimerlin. B/T with nice head
& eye. Good coat. A little high when moving.
