I found the breed overall to be in a fairly good state, not so many huge ones these days but many of the same old problems are fairly prevalent. Many are still too short in upper arm giving a very upright lay of shoulder halfway up the neck with the inevitable toeing in in front, this often goes hand in hand with a very upright pelvis & not a great deal of hind angulation which produces a lack of hind drive.
That said I was delighted with all my top winners & found many sound dogs who were in the greater part well presented in clean, hard condition. I was more than pleased with an entry of 64 dogs despite the breed politics (of which I was previously unaware) absentees were inevitable due to the Siberian conditions but I was pleased not to have too many.
I was very pleased to discover my BOB winner had gone on to BIS under Liz Cartledge.
V (5) 1 Sutton’s Damai Master Benedict, b/t dog, spot on for size & of nice type, nothing overdone, my notes say ‘neat & tidy all through’ which he is. Really well presented & in lovely nick, moved with drive keeping a firm topline at all times. BVIS; 2 Fossett’s Melminds Method In Madness via Brysdax, shaded red dog in a bigger frame, decent head proportions, good reach of neck, moved soundly but not the drive of 1; 3 Rees’ Phaeland North Light at Aquarelle. MPD (4) 1 Cook & Rhodes’ Bournder Regency Malachite, compact & low to ground b/t dog who has yet to lengthen. Super head with dark eye of correct shape, decent reach of neck & tidy front, well off for rib, good hind angulation. Needs to tighten & settle in his topline but still a raw baby so has time on his side. BPD; 2 Duchesne’s Bronia Priam of Scandell, lovely clear red dog puppy, beautiful head & expression, so sound & well made all through but sadly carrying a lot of excess weight especially across his shoulders which affected his front movement here; 3 Fossett’s Brysdax Second To None. PD (1) 1 Cheese’s Suecaseus Hamlet, b/t boy of good type, son of my veteran winner & very similar except for being in a larger package. In good condition, moved soundly. Handler just needs to gain a bit more confidence to bring out the best in him. JD (2) 1 Boyle’s Zarcrest Hugo Boss, glorious dark shaded red boy with fantastic type & ring presence, masculine yet elegant head with correct bite & huge white teeth, terrific reach of neck running into textbook shoulders, super front & tight feet, excellent length & depth of rib with sternum well back, strong loin & really well made quarters. Absolutely excels on the move which he does with style, showing a clean pair of heels & really driving off his hocks keeping a strong topline at all times with a correctly set lashing tail. He had it all, type, soundness, glamour & was beautifully presented as always from this kennel. CC, his third, BOB & BIS in very good company, wish he was mine. PGD (7) 1 Wilson’s Rogermardax Senor Dougal, b/t, nicely presented in clean, hard condition & of nice type, decent head & reach of neck, correct front & well off for ribbing, firm topline & decent hindquarters, moved soundly but could have easily gone up a gear. Sometimes impeded by his handler; 2 Wood’s Rogermardax Jack Spratt, red, litter brother to 1, taller & not as well angulated otherwise similar comments apply, moved soundly but not the topline of 1; 3 Hagan & Borsuk’s Badamtam’s Wa Baltica at Follypaws. LD (10) 1 Booth & Elsley’s Abbalongdat The Visitor, glamorous red boy of lovely type, super head & expression, terrific reach of neck, well laid shoulder & correct front, excels in ribbing with sternum well back, strong loin & powerful rear which he used here to really stride out, put down to the minute in fabulous condition as were all this exhibitor’s dogs. Really liked him but he had given up by the time we got to the challenge; 2 Cook & Rhodes’ Abydachs Rides The Storm to Bournder, shaded red dog of really good type, lovely size, excels in head where the American influence of his sire can clearly be seen. Clean neck & tidy front, well off for ribbing & tidy rear. Moved soundly keeping a firm topline, nice dog; 3 Elridge’s Metadale Morgen Hof. OD(3) 1 Clarke’s Aus Ch Laurieton His Master’s Voice by Tekalhaus, shaded red boy of super type & size whom I really liked, not one I have seen before, presents a really pleasing outline & so well made, elegant head of good proportions, dark almond shaped eye, super reach of neck & well placed shoulders, the best of fronts & well ribbed up, strong rear with decent length of second thigh, really stepped out on the move showing super free & driving movement while maintaining his topline at all times, beautifully presented & handled to advantage. RCC; 2 Marks’ Brynalyn Royal Warrior via Labbadax, dark shaded red dog of really nice type, one can certainly see the Swansford influence here. Houndy head with clean neck, tidy front & nicely ribbed. Not the hind drive of 1 but nonetheless sound on the move with good topline. Felt his handler could have helped him a bit more here; 3 Chapman’s Melminds Mr Magoo.
MPB (4) 1 Cook & Rhodes’ Bournder Ruby Empress, litter sister to winner of MPD & nothing alike! Elegant shaded red bitch with more ground clearance than her brother & a lot more together. Exquisite head, dark eye of correct shape, lovely reach of neck, good front & super feet, nicely ribbed up with sternum well back, well made rear which just needs to tighten but moved out really well. Raw but very promising, really liked her. BP; 2 Marks’ Labbadax Carribean Queen, another nice one, of similar type to 1 but lower to ground. Decent head, neck & front, well constructed all through but rather apprehensive here so roaching a bit on the move due to nerves; 3 Weston’s Gleneddee Liquorice Diva. PB (5) 1 Cheese’s Suecaseus Desdemona, b/t, litter sister to winner of PD & very similar in all departments, in lovely condition. A little apprehensive but when settled really moved out well. Nice puppy; 2 Chapman’s Melminds Metropolis, shaded red bitch of nice type who was a real handful here, clearly she doesn’t do apprehension! Really nicely constructed all through, just not the angles of 1; 3 Chappell’s Gleneddee Liquorice Chick. JB (4) 1 Harris’ Zarcrest Devil Wears Prada, dark shaded red bitch of lovely type, litter sister to DCC winner & so like him in all departments really. Beautiful head & expression with dark eye of correct shape, super reach of neck & layback of shoulder, fabulous front & super ribbing, well angulated rear assembly & like her brother really drives off her hocks enabling her to cover the ground effortlessly keeping a firm topline all the time. RCC, am sure she will soon get her crown, what a litter this must have been! Beautifully presented; 2 Burke & Manston’s Bonavoir Serenity, shaded red bitch, of lovely type, pleasing head & expression, good reach of neck & well placed shoulders, tidy front & well ribbed, moved really well showing good hind drive; 3 Marks’ Labbadax Belladonna. PGB (14) 1 Booth & Elsley’s Abbalongdat Ms Marionette, super glamorous, red bitch, sired by winner of LD & very like him in many ways being so well constructed all through, scores in front & really excelled on the move here which won her the class, beautifully presented; 2 Mitchell’s Bronia Louanna at Imirika, red bitch in her underwear but much to commend her. Well constructed all through but could be a bit tighter in front, moved really well keeping a level topline; 3 Ward’s Bonavoir Isabella. LB (5) 1 Clarke’s Solo’s Billion Dollar Baby among Tekalhaus, shaded red bitch of lovely type who caught my eye straight away, super sound & glamorous to boot & all in a correctly sized package there is nothing overdone here. Glorious head of great proportions, good reach of neck, super front with decent width, well ribbed up with strong loin & well angulated rear, absolutely excelled on the move keeping her topline at all times, looked like she could go all day. Put down to the minute she looked a picture. CC, her second, hope she gets her 3rd soon; 2 Booth & Elsley’s Abbalongdat Ice Queen, full sister to winner of PG & again similar in type, longer & lower than 1 but couldn’t match her for stride on the move here. Nonetheless a cracking bitch & no disgrace to stand behind such a stunner; 3 Eve’s Dachslur Diamond Fancy Free at Sundayshill. OB (4) 1 Mitchell’s Ch Bronia American Liberty at Imirika, clear red bitch of decent type with much to commend her, had been stripped down her front which made her look like she could have done with more pro-sternum which in fact is not the case! Tidily made all through & really moved out well; 2 Booth’s Abbalongdat I Have A Dream, another lovely exhibit from this kennel, in lovely condition & carrying her 6 years very lightly. So well made all through, just lost out to 1 on the move here; 3 Chapman’s Darsoms Ziana at Melminds.
