I enjoyed my day at Dachshund Club of Wales Championship show – thanks to the Committee for my invitation and thanks to my stewards for their help. This was my first appointment with CC’s for Longs and I found it very interesting. My observation would be that size is an issue within the variety; many of those entered were much larger than I would prefer. Heads were also a problem many dogs had broad skulls with round eyes which I found very unappealing. I found many lacked hind drive and since I do like to judge dogs on the move rather than play statues it made some decisions difficult. I look always for balance and type and it was interesting when looking at my catalogue after judging that both CC winners as well as some class winners were sired by the same dog. I was very pleased to see the BOB go RBIS and the veteran to be BVIS.
Minor Puppy Dog 4 (1). 1)Marks Labbadax Early Eclipse – Best overall picture and balance. Reasonable shoulders but would prefer longer ribbing. Good head proportions. 2) Duchesne’s Darsoms Ziifi of Scandell. Larger caste dog with o.k. head proportions. Less positive behind than winner. 3.Cooper,Hendren & Steadman Bronia Mr McGregor.
Puppy Dog 1 (1).
Junior Dog 2 (1). 1) Dare’s Zarcrest Marc Jacobs At Darsoms. Larger than I would like but good balance. Best head and eye shape. Good front and lovely feet. Positive hind movement. 2) Chapman Melminds Zsylvester Close decision has had many of same attributes as winner just didn’t have same positive hind action.
Post Graduate Dog 4 (1). 1) Duchesne’s Bronia Priam of Scandell - Nice size dog with lovely coat. Better shoulders and front construction than many and again good feet. Moved out with purpose holding excellent outline. 2) .Ficker’s Dachslur In His prime. Larger type without the shoulder placement of winner. 3. Alford & Worth’s Dachslur Diddledoo At Deeseedax.
Limit Dog 7 (1). 1) Lewis’s Bronia Chaos At Trixihund. .Better sized dog with lovely head and eye. Good overall picture standing and moving. Nice Type. Well presented. 2) Dare & Guys Melminds Zitanic At Darsome. Good balance with nice outline held on the move. Good driving action. Preferred head and eye on class winner. 3) Cooper, Hendren & Steadman’s Darsoms Zethro.
Open Dog 7 (1). 1) Boyle’s Ch Zarcrrest Hugo Boss. A lesson on presentation with this dog put down to perfection. Best overall balance and purposeful movement completed the picture. Pleased to award him the CC. 2) Mark’s Ch Brynalyn Royal Warrior Via Labbadax Sh.C.M. Another nicely balanced dog. Good head flowing into good shoulder placement. Preferred hind action over third in class. 3.Dare’s Paco Rabanne At Darsoms.
Veteran Dog 3 (1). 1)Hutton’s Owlery MMajestic of Dachulune Sh.C.M. Lovely type with nice overall balance. Thought his shoulder placement and front construction some of the best here today. Lovely true straight action at both ends. A quality exhibit. Res CC. 2) Alford & Worth’s Swansford Pukkador At Deesseedax. Carrying quite a lot of excess weight especially over the shoulders but a nice type.
Minor Puppy Bitch 2. 1) Johnson’s Darsoms Zeony With Africandawns. Slightly larger than would be ideal not helped by carrying a bit of puppy fat. A more mature exhibit which showed in the movement. 2) Eve’s Sundayshill Anastasia. A very immature baby with a typical babyish topline and movement. Better size than winner.
Puppy Bitch 2 (1). Garlick’s Ranglewood Diamond Heist. Lovely type. Very exuberant and happy with her day which was lovely to see. Good shoulders and nice head shape. Carrying a bit of extra weight but will be interested to see her when she matures. B.P.
Junior Bitch 1. 1) Chapman’s Melminds Maleficient. Nice size bitch but lacked angulation at both ends.
Post Graduate Bitch 4(1). 1)Eve’s Dachslur Mairi My Dream. Difficult class I felt this bitch had the most positive movement of the 3 with a reasonable layback of shoulder. 2) Garlick’s Ranglewood Idesia. Felt this bitch would look better carrying less weight especially over the shoulders. 3) Bradley’s Marshwick Spring Serenade.
Limit Bitch 6(3). 1) Dare’s Darsoms Zshona. This bitch took my eye as soon as she entered the ring. Excellent type with beautiful balance. Good head shape with correct eye and a great look at me attitude. Shoulder placement and ribbing better than most today. She moved with drive and purpose to complete the picture. CC, BOB and RBIS .2) Garlic’s Ranglewood Justica. Another from this kennel who obviously likes her dinner! Nice bitch of good type and balance. Preferred hind movement of winner. 3)Eve’s Dachslur Diamond fancy Free At Sundayshill.
Open Bitch 7(3). 1) Robert’s Swansford Whoopydora Won this class on her front contruction. Lovely head and expression good length of neck flowing into good layback of shoulder. Nice positive movement with outline held at all times. Better feet than many today. Res CC. 2) Mark’s Ch Labbadax Belladonne. Another nice bitch with good balance, type and movement. Felt winner had better upper arm length which showed in front movement. . 3. Harris & Winchurch’s Zarcrest Devil Wears Prada.
